I can absolutely bet you that the Romulans are watching this closely and trying to figure how to antagonize the Klingons into throwing the first punch straight into a mined system.
Because I can guarantee you that the Klingons will hold onto current doctrines of just running up and punching people for longer than most whereas the Romulans are almost certainly watching Starfleet vessels streaming home and going "Wait, all we have to do is lure some dumb Klingons into defended systems? Fucking SCORE!"
The Romulans probably have a military culture more... inclined to learn from our losses here and going "Right, yes, double down on deception and luring people into minefields"
That raises an interesting point, actually. What are the doctrinal research implications for civilizations around us learning from this conflict because we are culturally incapable of decent infosec for any but the most dire of secrets? Even apart from the balance issues with minefields, are the Klingons and Romulans thinking about the old days when we used to pull bullshit they considered about this ridiculous on them? Does the Obsidian Order expect us to start fielding bullshit superweapons any year now? Is the Gaeni doctrine institute going [SCIENCE DOCTRINE INTENSIFIES]?
Hmm this brings up an interesting question - if sensors are responsible for science checks (anti-mine, anti-super-science) and accuracy, if Sarek's sensors can be repaired in 10 turns here, does that mean that they are functional by now?
Sarek no doubt has SOME working sensor suite, but the ship took like 40% of hull worth of damage. Something must have been wrecked or disabled or put out of action in general.
I'm much more sympathetic to the argument that there are military weaknesses to mines, such as the suggested long-term scanning weaknesses.
And I still advocate for mines to be adjusted so as to be less about "killing" ships and more about "forcing mission failure" (more spread-out damage yet more overall damage).
Basically, at the moment, minefields are like forcing all the ships in your fleet to play Russian Roulette. Having them repel a larger fraction of the ships in your fleet, without necessarily destroying them, would be an interesting change of pace.

It is literally unimaginable to me that TBG-verse Romulans would do anything besides make "troll our enemies into flying lengthwise through a giant minefield" as their modus operandi for major wars. They were probably planning to do this waaay before the Licori War, because trolling your enemy into flying through a giant minefield lengthwise is like the most Romulan way to fight ever and is freaking hilarious besides!

Well, Romulan honor apparently has a very consequentialist bent to it, so their doctrine is probably a bit flexible. And besides, I thought cloak-based alpha strikes were what they usually tried in the show? Or do I have STO confused with canon?

More mines!!! especially for Gabriel Expanse, actually funny enough they would work well enough to defend our system by destroying or slowing down warships midway giving our version of the Iron Hail and some long range starship to forced them to hit our mines as they try to dodge it. Also frees up starships to for attack elsewhere and give us time to expand.
Also we can randomly laid mines on important unclaimed systems as a way to denial survey or use of the system for a time being. Love to ambush some of their surveyors.
Say did we get any engineers loot any of their stuff?

Is it possible for us to design a type of frigate that is really good at laying mines? Or are all hulls equally good at that activity?
Given that deploying mines might share a lot in common with deploying probes, perhaps it might be another role for the Kepler.

True but Gabriel Expanse is unclaimed space, if there's evidence of destruction of a unknown ship we would compensate for it unlike the other side.
We will remove it after we gain full control and its not like we're going to leave it willy nilly in unimportant systems.
But in the end its a war to claim as much territory as possible so all is fair apart from war crimes.
Honesty I don't want the Cardassians gaining more space considering the fact that they already got more territories and resources from their affiliates especially their unknown sphere of influence and future expansion on the other side while Federation is backing up to more boundaries of other high tier powers leaving limited room 'To Boldly Go' unless we go to war with other powers in order to break open access of space.
Its not like the Klingon and Romulans is going to give us freedom of the seas in their space and its harder to justify a war to guarantee free passage.
So I would be more concern with lack of strategic access until we shatter Cardassian space.

Is there other people's space?
Unless there is then we back off and do the Federation song and dance.
Honesty I would prefer to leave warnings, not sure if its possible for mines to scan ship signatures but if it does not detect Cardassian or their client profiles in the database then a deterrent explosion follow by automated warnings to the unknown ship would get them to back off, again we can compensate them with settling in the system once the conflict ended as an apology for the rude welcome.
We do need to increase survey though but updates did say its mostly empty of other races.
Deploying semi-indiscriminate automated weapons in neutral space is very much against the principles of the UFP. It is the same sort of behaviour that leads to peaceful exploration vessels being shot up by old automated defense systems or random civilian vessels mysteriously exploding with all hands.
Deploying defesive measures around facillities is perfectly reasonable, creating random navigation hazards all over the place is just a costly form of criminal negligence.

Well that's a worst case scenario for splitting...
Okay *rubs temples* alright, given the way this is split, I'm going to fall back on the commander qualities - The Ked Paddah Admiral is more likely to favour the approach of leaving a ship to protect orbit and not overextending - just attack the Iron Hail. So we'll go with that option.
