Not the QM but given the ship will post date any new core design it shouldn't be too hard to slot in, even if using the Sagar saucer, no matter the winning choice (though obviously the compact core is the only one that will work with the saucer by itself).

Though we miss out on being able to retrofit it to older vessels, this raises the ceiling for our future vessels of all sizes. With the bump to Maximum Warp that we also get, this also allows us to take the Cruise option more often without worrying as much about hampering our warp ceiling.

Having our whole fleet faster would be nice but we can probably scrape by with a dozen ships that are fast response ships to harry opponents while our slower forces attempt to get in position to respond. Then having the smallest and most speedy designs will be an advantage when we shoot for large numbers on our backbone platform.

My In-Universe counterpart is definitely looking at designing the next ship to be refitted with the new nacelles. He's not gonna be happy that old ships can't be refitted with the new nacelles, but he's choosing to trust in the Federation's other technologies if a war starts before the next-gen stuff is rolled out.

My reason to vote for this is because yard time is already precious. It is better to have a clear cut and maybe design a ship with sufficient engine section room to replace its warp 7 engine than trying to update as many oder designs as possible.

I want to point out that the engine itself does not reduce in size but only the narcelles.

So thinking on it I seems to have talked myself around.
