[X] [ITHILMAR] Precious Stones
[X] [ITHILMAR] Trade Goods

I have been reverse sold on the books, really. They were interesting years ago, but right now the only ones I want to read are gated behind the Nehekharan language.

Agree to disagree, they're going to be referenced in a research action and maybe used as props for the scene. But these books probably aren't going to wind up with us doing anything we weren't already planning on doing, except now with maybe a +3 or 4 to some dice roll.

"The towers and jewels of Tor Lithanel have captured the soul of many an artist, but I suspect most relevant to you would be the Library of Mournings, twice the age of your Teclis' White Tower. It contains scrolls that predate the Elven race, and scrolls written in the hands of Caledor, Astarielle, Maruviel, and Yvraine. Access to such a library would be of great benefit to the project, don't you think?"

Scrolls that predate the Elven race - Old Ones? Terraformers of the planet and makers of the source of the winds.
Caledor - Famous for something called the Great Vortex, in the running for Literally Best Mage (other contenders being Slaan or Nagash)
Astarielle - Everqueen, gesalt consciousness of avatars of Isha, alive when the Polar Gates collapsed
Maruviel - The first queen of Laurelorn
Yvraine - Astarielle's succesor

Plus all the magical theory Halatha has made Sarvoi shut up about. Literally the only theoretical work available known to compatible with magical schema we use that isn't dark magic for Windhearding. We're not just talking about Elf-Elferson's cooking recipes.

What makes the difference for me is that if we want to spend time helping out the EIC, there are any number of things we can do. But if we want these irreplaceable magical secrets, we HAVE to get them from the Library of Mourning, and it HAS to be through a favor that has military value.

This won't happen on it's own like EIC expansion will, and we have no guarantee of getting it again in the future.

Yes infrastructural and people that already exist, you know that bridge we made or perhaps the canal that we spendt our boon on. All of that is helping the EIC it doesn't need more help. We have already been empowering a single trade company too much. And eleven trade is soooo lucrative that it will have quickly no matter what.

The EIC option is not establishing trade with Laurelorn. Trade is already being established with Laurelorn. We have spent actions setting up a trade route with Laurelorn. That's been done already. Laurelorn is already actively preparing for trade.

The EIC action is purely Marriseth extending a line of credit to the EIC for purchasing Eonir goods. It's a lot of credit - we brought a lot of ithilmar. But that's the entirety of the outcome here, diplomatically speaking.

It means that Eonir trade will be even more dominated by the EIC than it otherwise already would be. That's going to be beneficial to the EIC, and will extend it's reach for the spying options that we already never take.

It is not going to have any meaningful diplomatic benefits - those have already been realised.
Elven trade is very lucritive yes but it is also very open to running an silver defficiency on either way depending on what happens in the middle term and that is a very dangerious situation, like you might know opium war perhaps? British kept running silver deficiency to China and to stop that they started to sell opium to Chinese so they would have something to sell to them and even fought a war to be able to keep doing it.

Now I don't know if anything like that can happen to Laurelorn or the Empire (depending what is being traded) but having EIC in a strong position would allow us to keep our finger in the pulse of the trade and have tools to intervene if it looks like it might be headed that direction. Which sounds like wise thing to do -to me anyway.

It is one of the reasons why I am not voting for queen to take a loan. That might lead to some unwanted incentives.

The Initiate and the two Mandred options are leading by a lot, so these are fairly sure to be chosen (unsurprisingly). The Witch Hunter, Festival and Sarvoi are barely a handful of votes from each other, and only two of them will be picked, while everything else is solidly below them.

Helping Gretel maintain a wizard-ruled polity in the South could work as a concept soft-launch of how it would go over in the Empire for Mandred.

That, and it's nice to see something made of the Borderlands - god knows it's a good use of all the soft power Mathilde has in the region re: relations with the Dwarves.

More work for Wilhelmina and the Hochlander. Strenghtening the EIC's already huge reach. Having trade from K8P to Laurelorn, with a distribution network all along the way means that the EIC wil be in an exceptional position to make use of Wilhelmina's canal preparations.

Hell, I wonder if there is a market in the Karaz Ankor for Eonir goods? If Dwarves start buying Eonir goods through the EIC, it might make it the de facto commercial intermediary, poised to take advantage of potential trade between the Eonir and Karaz Ankor.

@Boney did we ever get Mathilde's Dooming? As far as I recall, the only one we've gotten is Eike's being 'beware the cloven hoof'.
Yes, and the story is objectively hilarious.
"When abandoned and alone, Morr shalt befriend thee."
After she first arrived at the Grey College, she adopted a cat and called it Morr.
It might explain a lot about her, that she considered her doom fulfilled at age 10 and she's been completely free of the strings of fate ever since.

I actually had to check back through the story because I could have sworn it was in an actual threadmark, but I guess it's not.

...For now.

Didn't we use a bunch of EIC money to buy up all the ithilmar in the first place? If we loot the eonir books instead of picking something liquid, are we gonna take a big income hit to pay back the EIC?
