They all have great merit, especially the first one. I'd be down to have a medley of names, the only pattern being inquisitiveness, science or feathers. The Federation is already so huge, diverse and complex, it's hard even to comprehend human culture, let alone the many others, and the many hybrids, fusions and meta-cultures. This should be reflected in our naming system. Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.

I am not going to engage in relitigating this argument again after @Sayle requested that we drop it two updates ago, except to note that once again there are some assertions being thrown about the torpedoes around which are simply wrong, stemming from either misunderstandings of the mechanics or misreadings of explicit QM statements.

No, I was saying "if ijjits hadn't shouted down those of us who weren't, we could have had an amazing ship instead of just a good one, for the same costs, in the same numbers."

But we were, we do, and we have.
The Galileo, whatever we end up calling it, isn't a bad ship, as far as the science goes; it definitely helps shore up some of the noted weaknesses of the Sagas.

But it could have been an amazing ship, a backbone of the Starfleet for decades to come that would have had future designs compared even unfavorably for decades to come, and that didn't happen.

Yeah apologies, I misread your post and deleted my post two minutes after posting when I reread and realised. Unfortunate, a good reminder to always take a second check before pressing "post".

Basically, yeah. I mean, it can take hits like you would expect... Mostly... but the lack of torps is just going to see it shoved into the backline/removed from combat considerations entirely like, y'know, every other ship with no Torpedo launchers, so despite the fact that we could have had an amazing backbone cruiser what we ended up with is a Science Palace. Which is what it is.

No, we made design choices early on to save costs, then choked on actually spending when tactical came along because the people who were actually reading the whole post got shouted down by people who skimmed and bandwagned and so the word "cost" and immediately turned off their brains. So we basically ended up building the frigate option the size of a cruiser, and are basically only going to get away with it because those cost saving measures mean it's about the same cost to manufacture.

Otherwise, we could have replaced the Cygnus as and Curiosity at the same time with a shedload of cheap science heavy line cruisers.

Anyway, for names has anyone considered slightly more modern in universe heros because

[X] UFS Hoshi Sato

She deserves a ship Darn It, and doesn't get one in canon
Hoshi absolutely deserves her own ship. But her ship should be a diplomat. Which I hear we're making next…

There are lots of great names this vote, but I wanna vote bird.
Did, did we end up designing the Frigate proposal after choosing the Light Cruiser option? A specialized lightly armed ship in the 200kt range or so? Amazing.
Sayle did a revision of ship tonnage recently, which you can see on the ship stats infopost. For example, the Sagamartha is 290kt, and Project Galileo, which uses the same saucer section but only two nacelles, is at a similar 255kt.

Perhaps not a Great Resizing, but a resizing nonetheless. At least we don't fully have to worry about our ships being lighter than cigarette smoke...

T'Pol is another good name choice for this ship (perhaps a bit more fitting than Hoshi, for a science ship). Not only was she Vulcan assuming things haven't changed too much she should have served as science officer onboard Enterprise.
