You can't fire more than 2 at a time, so lots if phasers are of minimal use. Coverage is the only advantage.
Yes, that's exactly what I was going for? We've got to consider both dorsal and ventral, so there's three on each. Two phasers overlapping significantly in a dorsal arc forward where they can both fire, each of them can cover more of their side in a single phaser dorsal arc, and then a single phaser shooting dorsal aft. Mirror that for the bottom of the ship. Nowhere is there any arc that three phasers can fire into.

Give me the giga-saucer or that double hull.

[X] Small Saucer (100 Meters)
Let's have all the crew quaters in the central saucer, Engineering and other utilities in the lower Secondary hull and all the SCIENCE!! being done in the upper Tertiary hull. (Very much like a Nebula class). Which can be isolated or jettisoned from the rest of the ship in case of "oh god oh god, we're all going to die!!"

I agree with the others that It's still too soon for the theoretical material and 3 die checks is not good. Hopefully the next project will have better odds

Potentially reusing the Sagmartha saucer allows us to save costs to splurge later in the ship design.
I'd rather save the experimentation for later in the design process.
A radically different hullform doesnt interest me.

I want to play around with novel hullforms too, yeah.

@Sayle If we pick Medium Saucer and Electro-Ceramic Plating, could we directly re-use Sagarmatha saucers for this ship? IIRC I think we did something like that with the Excelsior-class saucers in the previous quest.

Don't see why not.
Alright, now I really wanna do it. Reusing the Sagamartha's saucer means massive cost savings, allowing us to splurge everywhere else. And I just really like the idea of taking this old part of a ship and refurbishing it to the next/modern tech level.

I see value in both large and small saucers, but medium just seems to be the worst of both worlds.

Reusing a ton of the Sag's structural design seems like it'd be good for construction, maintenance (spare parts), and future refit work since we're familiar with strengths and issues in the design.

OTOH, having xenomorph containment in one of two secondary hulls does seem interesting.
Edit: removed vote to give medium a chance.
[] Small Saucer (100 Meters)

ECP is pretty good, I'm happy to use it for another generation of ships.

A double secondary hull sounds fun, but reusing the same saucer as before is just too good to pass up.

Starfleet catamarans?

Yeah, reusing the Sagarmatha saucer just makes too much sense. I am super tempted by the theoretical hull material. Like ungodly tempted. If large or small look like winning for size I'll probably change my vote to the recklessly shiny new material. But so long as Medium is on the table, yeah, sensible option is fuckin sensible, what can I say.
