Starfleet Design Bureau

Why must you tempt me into posting something I made but decided not to post. A secret I swore to keep.

As you can see here this ship isn't really an arrowhead, it's a 1/8th saucer!
With space in the center for a central control section, an orb.

(No idea what went weird with the quality, I apparently cannot into gimp.)

We have fallen directly into the Sphere-builders plan, soon they will sent their orbs to take control of out ships remotely.
I know your joking but real talk: that's a legit good set up for if we have them dock on the underside of a mushroom Hull star base. Imagine if each Federation world had 8 of these ships on station in the long run both to train new crew and to do nessary tasks.

So, does the combadge shape evolve out of the uniform patches of those serving on these little shiplets?

I think the Stingray will stay in their basic patrol role, mainly because these are a little too threatening frankly.
Thanks kinda the point. The sting rays aren't threatening enough, they don't dissuade pirates or anything, if you remember, pirate would attack stingrays while they were on patrol and only the NX arriving could dissuade them. The stingrays are simply too primitive/weak for patrol and anti-piracy. These new ships are dangerous for their costs, we are gonna make a bunch for the war, and we made multiple design decisions that after the war, will make them Unable to be too distant from a resupply point, there by locking them to patrol duties.

Changing my vote to everything that has a chance to win that isn't Shark or Piranha.

They're just so generic, and Piranha aren't even anything like their reputation, so I definitely don't want to feed into that even more.

Skate can still win if people vote for it. Not removing my vote for Pirahna, though, as it's tied with Shark and that's a much worse offender of 'generic name'. Especially as the latin classification of shark was already on the list if you really wanted to name the class after sharks in general.

I'm honestly not too fussed, functionality over name for me. If we were Starfleet command I would care more :p

Nevermind, looks like the tally stopped counting votes.

Darn, and with those last two, Skate would've won too.

Omake: The Space Buzzard

One of the main processes needed to defend the ship is funnelling any oncoming Space Buzzards into the warp engines, otherwise they land on the hull and start harvesting it to build their nests with.
NARRATOR:
By the standards of stars, Mulpecula-2318 is fairly unassuming. A KV5 orange dwarf star, it plays host to three planets, a Hot Jupiter and a pair of dwarf rocky planets. Situated in the vast chasm between these planets, however, is enduring proof of the inexhaustible strangeness of the galaxy.

Cut to a zoomed view of Mulpecula-2318 itself. Strewn in a vast belt, many thousands of objects transit the star.

NARRATOR:
The Mulpecula Graveyard.

Cut much closer, inside the belt, facing outwards so the lit sides are visible. Pan across a scene of grand carnage. Hulk after hulk, of alien and manifold design, mangled and pitted, tumbling slowly.

NARRATOR:
Many hundreds of thousands of ancient starships litter this antediluvian battlefield, sole testament to a forgotten war.

Yet even here, life has found a way.

Rapid cuts: a HULL-FLOWER opens its silvered petals, focusing the thin sunlight onto a central collector nodule. A field of these flowers grows in timelapse on a shard of hull-plate. A swarm of CONTRABEEs flowing from their hives, each insect glowing the bright red of impulse drives.

NARRATOR:
The biotechnology of these vast wrecks has evolved unrestrained for millions of years, into the strangest and most resilient life in the galaxy. There is nothing of the like anywhere in the Alpha Quadrant.

Camera cuts to an 'overhead' shot of one of the hulks. Vaguely avian shapes pick at its guts. This particular ship plays host to space's most tenacious scavenger.

Cut to a close up, slightly below, looking up. The SPACE BUZZARD jerks its head up from its meal. It looks remarkably like a Bird-Of-Prey rendered in subspace feathers and leathery flesh, nacelle-wings tucked into its body. Oil drips from its stout, strongly-built beak in little spherical droplets as it scans the horizon.

NARRATOR:
The fearsome Space Buzzard.

AN: I've already spent too long on this.

one of those should be named the barb.
i would like to see what the crew of that ship would accomplish, and if they would live up to the name of the submarine that sunk a train.

While it doesn't seem mentioned on Memory Alpha or Beta, I recall reading in some minibooks (a long time ago) that the starfleet delta is related in some way to warp dynamics - either the power curve of a warp field when it's passing factor transitions or something about the shape of the warp field. Seems to make sense as a universal symbol for Starfleet rather than "it's NASA updated a dozen times". I'm sure there are other secondary canon explanations, but that one seems elegant enough to me.

I think you are exaggerating our losses quite significantly. That said they don't appear to have a use outside of local defense or escorts for something with the supplies to keep them operating far from home.

Yeah, I'm definitely exaggerating. It's going to be rough, though, especially since whenever these guys get caught flat-footed by cloaked Romulans, they're toast - we just don't have the defenses to protect against alpha strikes.

The 24th century Thunderchild would just be a 4km Aeon Czar launching 24th century Selachii. I want this so bad now lol.

...did we design a Dreepy?
