Starfleet Design Bureau

Why must you tempt me into posting something I made but decided not to post. A secret I swore to keep.

As you can see here this ship isn't really an arrowhead, it's a 1/8th saucer!
With space in the center for a central control section, an orb.

We have fallen directly into the Sphere-builders plan, soon they will sent their orbs to take control of out ships remotely.
Don't you start with the Shape Wars again or I swear I will literally turn you into a shape myself!

I'm excited to find out what the Romulans have been building while we started churning these out. Presumably, something to beat our dreadnought, but you never know.

I can't help but note that with it's thin streamlined shape and relatively small size, it could probably be used as a detachable section for larger craft like what sometimes shows up in the franchise.

Do you mean this space station from ENT?

Suliban helix

A Suliban helix was a massive spiral-shaped space station used by the Suliban Cabal. Helices were formed by combining of hundreds of cell ships, as well as other cell ship like components, around a central core, and was capable of housing at least three thousand personnel. Enterprise NX-01...

Think of the over the top techno babble we could come up with with a fresh set of technology.

Science officer: By inverting the integrity field only in prime frequencies we can create a gravitational lensing effect to glance their fire off our hull for a short time. If we time it right we can even bounce it right back at them!
ah, yes

the Pong! shield

I hereby christen such a vessel the USS Voltaire (because USS Make Shit Up wouldn't fly in the various commissioning boards). Heh.

Honestly, once the war is done, they will make great replacements for the stingray for quite a while.

You want to weaken the fleet just as the hundred-year cold war with the Klingon Empire is ramping up?
A Cold War takes time to really get momentum, and we're liable to have plenty of militarized hulls to garrison a border after this war. We absolutely ought to get back to designing explorers and updating our current designs for a post war era.

The NX has a lot that can be improved, and I still hope the Thunderchild will get to see a post war refit adding a secondary hull loaded with engineering and scientific equipment.

I know you have a strong concern this is merely the start of an ever growing militarization, but the difference in urgency between surprise attempts of genocide and the possibility of a conventional shooting war with the Klingons somewhere down the line is incomparable. A conventional war focused on combatants is going to probably be refreshing after a war against a foe who has embraced atrocity so far at every possible opportunity

BURD

Also, I want to keep naming our ships after kinda nicer things. You know make transitioning back to a peacetime mindset easier. Also, it'll make the Vulcan and Klingon intelligence services have fits, which is a great reason in and of itself.

Talking about Klingons, I feel like these new ships are going to leave more of an impression on them than in OTL. Starfleet will probably seem significantly more threatening (and thereby more worthy of respect) with some lines of dedicated combat vessels alongside the explorers.

I think one way to take the edge off that threat for other polities would be an offer to Federation affiliates or trading partners of using the extra ships for peacetime patrolling. It would take careful PR work to make it clear that it's a real offer of security and not a shakedown, but if it works out it would be great for both PR and future economic growth.

I move that our next vessel be a modified Thunderchild that can fit pizza slices of these ships in an underslung configuration.
i think that the next ship should be an auxiliary, just something like a larger cargo ship or a warship tender to resupply our ships when they are far from friendly systems
Did someone say legally-distinct Lucrehulk, with optional pizza attack fleet?

(No idea what went weird with the quality, I apparently cannot into gimp.)

It's beautiful...

Anyway. Not voting Shark because that's way too plain. Selachii is a flat improvement on Shark, as is Mako. Skate, while intriguing, just lacks gravitas and isn't snappy enough to make up for it.
