I do hope that these never actually go away in the future. It's a very cute design even if it's not really intended for anything but wartime.

One thing I do wish we had, phaser 'calibers'.

As of now, there is no difference between the cannons mounted on our new murder lolis, those mounted on the NX, and those mounted on the Thunderchild.

When IRL, half the reason you build a bigger ship is to haul around heavier weapons.

Yeah hope they survive for the entire quest tbh. I really like how they only need twenty-four crew, because of that fact alone, it could make for a great protagonist ship; you know. Since twenty-four characters isn't an entirely overwhelming amount to follow in text at least, like it would work in a book I think. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They'd serve as great System Defense Boats in non wartime, in that they're cheap and extremely effective for their cost. Limited range isn't a big deal either if they're not expected to leave their home system.

Phasers are continuously calibrable, this is one of their many advantages. Maximum energy is dependent upon the EPS system and ultimately on the warp core.

Just wanted to post this, here's a Skate seen from above, it's actually really fitting now that I'm thinking about it.

Has to have Quad Nacelles for that Four Wing vibe.
If a ship like this had 4 Nacelles I would be way too tempted by X-wing, if SDB in universe are already referencing sci-fi like with the Thunderchild.(From the Journey home we know that earth history was mostly the same as ours until about 1986)

Sayle gives us fitting options, who'da thunk?
Just thought I'd share an image in case people were too lazy to look into fish species themselves. :p

We're well on track for the Bell Riots, but the Trek-canonical response thereto is not in the offing from our politicians.

[X] UES Skate

I think is a pretty nice upgrade compared to the Stingrays. Double the Tactical power for only 3 Industry more, but it also speeds up the battleline by 15% just by matching the Thunderchild's cruise speed compared to the Stingray's slower cruise.

Anyone else feel like Archer isnt very happy right now? Of the 5 ship designs in Starfleet, 3 are pure warships.
Archer came around to maximal militarization all of the time by the beginning of Season 4. He told Captain Hernandez as much. Fortunately, Archer was never a politician.

I mean, I would think he gets the reasoning, the Romulans need to be stopped, they're not just a threat to humanity, but to every species he's managed to make friends with.
Also Humanity isn't advanced enough to be able to be as Principled as the later Federation.

That said I don't consider the Stingray a "Warship" it's more of a Coastguard Cutter that was forced into a role it didn't belong in, though it did well for being that, it's time to let it get back into that role.

I mean, the only ones you can call being pure purpose-designed Warships are the Thunderchild and this little baby, and both were designed in response to an extremely hostile star nation that introduced themselves with a surprised attempted genocide.

I think even Archer would understand the necessity.

Hopefully this is our last wartime design and we can get back to Explorers though!

One good thing about this design, it's small, it won't take up much room at starbases.

It can be a reserve ship, ready to deploy if some genocidal threat shows up, but otherwise kept at home.
Something that doesn't look threatening even in that case until it needs to be used.

It fits a sort of "Speak softly and Carry a big stick"Methodology I think could work with the Federation.
