I'd honestly love a class of ships being named after various references. Like, seriously, just design a Corvette or Destroyer and have each of them be named after random memes or references. It's suitably human.
References... well let's hope the Romulans don't bring up our ship names needing more Gravitas at the peace conference.

That is a path to some poor ship getting the name that the Royal Navy cruelly denied one of it's submarines despite popular demand: Boaty McBoatface

Touche.

UES Boaty McBoatface? Ah, that would be absolutely amazing. Just imagine getting ganked by a ship named 'Boaty McBoatface', you wouldn't live it down... if you survived.

That is just straight omake fodder.

I would prefer a name that cements this ship's purpose as one of defense against unwarranted aggress, honouring the service of Starfleet as the ones willing to put themselves between humanity and extinction-level weapons even in the face of certain death.

As such, well, it's obvious I favour

[x] UES Bulwark
[x] UES Aegis

Let us give them names that will not invoke sorrow in the future, nor martial triumph, but a commitment to the core values of the United Earth Starfleet. Defenders, and explorers, rather than conquering swords.

No offense meant, but if our baby here gets named Aegis, I'll be finding out if you can make torpedo juice out of Photon torpedoes' fuel so I can remove any memory of the poor girl getting such a generically bland name.

Wait... did we skip the Internals vote?

really?
What? It's not hard to say that some things that humans have done were pretty cool. I'm just saying we could name ships in reference to famous ships and people who did cool things, be they soldiers, warships, scientists, or even civilian ships.

Also, I guess we did.

One thing I just noticed, this ship only has 160 people on it. For the biggest ship ever produced by United Earth that is really good, the automation on the ship must be something to behold.
