I suppose it comes down to how many ships they brought, the minimum crew for each one and whether or not the enemy commander values taking risks over being cautious.

Number of ships is only relevant if they're significantly overcrewed or undercrewed, I think. We know from our own ship that you can make do with half the normal crew readily, and limp away with 1/4. They brought 230 people...they can likely limp away with 50 or 60. So we need to get them down around that point before they'll be forced to cut their losses...they may do so significantly before that in theory, but I wouldn't count on it. And we don't even want to let them escape too easily...they came here to mess us up, we need to punish them for that.

You don't seem to get Nid until you're accused though.

No, lying alone is dishonorable. So is being accused if you don't fight the accusation, because it's an insult, but even without witnesses lying gets nid. We would have gotten nid for lying to Steinarr about Horra, for example, despite nobody being there to call us on it.

I think there's been some interesting revelations as of late, but I can't recall much in the way of discussion over them. What are your thoughts?

Also, we are rapidly approaching 1500 pages!

Quest overall is very fun and interesting, and honestly the whole "guys, I ain't gonna pull punches, you very much can die" hadn't really lodged itself in my head until whatever the fuck it was that killed us and kidnapped Blackhand happened.

As an aside, if we perma-die while Blackhand is away, is he gone forever, or will he rock up to the next Charred Soul person at some point?

Blackhand is difficult to kill (understatement of the year). It'll take more then just a little bit of distance to keep him from you.

However, at a certain point, you'll know all he does. At a certain point, he won't be needed anymore. That's something that's going to be difficult to accept for both him and the player base, I imagine.

I wonder how Blackhand would have taken Steinarr's impending Fated Day. His last chance to speak to his son.

[X] Dorri
-[X] Have Folkmarr and Frammar lead scouting groups to follow the 2 smaller grouos, while Dorri and Logi take large groups to crush the larger enemy groups. Then swing round and wipe out the 2 smaller groups with aid from the scouts in finding them.

Feels like we've about hit that point with Solrun and knowledge of Seidr.

I don't think that's true at all...we're hitting the point of diminishing returns in terms of actual spells (though we aren't quite there yet), but that's hardly all there is to seidr and how it works, to say nothing of the other things she knows. Like, she knows how to shapeshift into a bird, for one thing...I'm really curious how that works, does Solrun just have a surprisingly high Hamr of 10 or is there more to it? And that's one random example, I have to imagine there are dozens more in context.

Where did we see that? Not doubting you I just dont remember it and probably have missed it.

Either way Id bet its Fylgja. She has a bird Fylgja and seers tend to have high Fylgja stats. This might be an alternate to fylgja armor like Hal got

The chapter before last, she just...turned into a raven (well, with a magic cloak, but that's standard). Could be fylgja but we've been told Hamr and shapeshifting can do it before, and people with different fylgja from their animal form have been mentioned...there might be multiple routes.

We do know she also has normal fylgja uses as well, she sent hers off with us on our last trip.

Honestly I've really been loving the last few updates, it has the same vibe as the earlier quest, where there's a strong feeling of living in a fantastical version of an early medieval world. Life feels precarious and dangerous.

In terms of the revelations... the stuff about our family's ageing is interesting, and kind of sad but not necessarily super surprising, given how it sorta fits with other stuff? Steinarr nearing the end of his life is honestly so sad that I don't know completely how to feel about it. Honestly I think there would be a lot more discussion on how to come up with harebrained schemes to save him if it weren't for the other impending crisis we're currently dealing with, which feels intentional to me. Something I feel you've captured quite well is that when we lose people we love in real life, it often feels that somehow there's no time, that everything is happening at once and in the wrong order, that the crises of real life are daring to intrude and steal time with our loved ones.

There's a bunch of new lines of investigation I think we've gained about Odr cultivation too, and how we need to improve the defences around our soul, plus the Dwarven iPad... but with enemies at the gates and our dad dying, I feel like no one is really talking about them because there's so many red warning lights and sirens going off in the proverbial cockpit.

I get very worried about the doppleganger every time I Remember it exists, especially since we didn't get any Beetlejuice or ask Solrun about it

Solrun is really old, even if Hugr and Fylgja are her main stats, she has had a long time to increase her Hamr. So is belivable that she simply has Hamr 10.

Its wierd though. Solrun seems to be in her 40s-50s I think, thats how she was described at least, but she's older then Steinnar by at least 20 years, putting her more at like 70s. Does she has some way to slow aging?

I think it's more that she's just doing okay in the same sense real life people do okay. She's not constantly getting stuck into fights, so a healthy lifestyle can let you live a pretty long time. Especially when you add in cultivation.

Our bloodline tends to die young because they overclock even by Norse standards.

The maths say that Solrun should be pushing 80 at a minimum. She's gonna croak pretty much anytime now. We should probably do the Vestfold trip sooner rather than later.
