Also, that divination worked with literally anything with an element of chance.

I'm against trying to make Forged Iron, but it's a legit research project...this is probably not anything. We know how to do divination already.
We have a general area description of divination, true.
The research suggestion fulfills all criteria.
We were told this was ahistorical, and thus not something Halla would probably think of.
Really?
Is that thread stuff I forgot or Discord lore?
If there is direct contradiction by IF that would be the strongest possible argument against it.

My point was that we have the spell and were told very specifically that different methods do not change the results. The explicit lesson Solrun taught was that specific method of divination does not matter at all. So spending dice on exotic methods is explicitly stated to be pointless.

I think that one was on Discord, but aiming for specific divination methods is explicitly pointless from the Quest itself.

Hey Blackhand,

How messed up would the Ancestral Pact be if we ever figured out how to forge Forged Iron without dwarven help?

As long as we don't make it common knowledge (which could shift trade relations, which could have an effect (or could have none, If the trade volume of the other stuff (gems, elemental irons etc) is big enough to overshadow the Forged Iron trade)), it shouldn't have any effect, should it?

Its probably too late for that, but I think we should have gicen the dwarves a bit of food first as a gift before even mentioning business or anything else. We did just return from an expedition with a load of food and giving a bit as gift would have improved relations and fostered goodwill. Not to mention its just a nice thing to do-they are our neighbors and friends

Dwarves may be friendly but treating them as friends is most unwise.

We're basically doing that actually...the current deal is 1 Food more towards them than a fair deal would be. Giving them more than that would be both useless and unwise, but we're skewing things very slightly in their favor to win 'favored customer' status going forward.

But as Shard says, we are not friends and we will never be friends. Dwarves don't have friends.

Yeah, goods are useful, but food is something we need to be careful for. Sticking to small time trade is the safest because the worst thing you can do is give them a superstimulus that puts them where they can exceed the carrying capacity of the region.

That aside, I don't think our relationship is good enough yet for their very best stuff. We're already able to get twice as many elemental iron types as the regional blacksmiths. We'll get there, in time.

That specific method of divination would be the equivalent of using these fuckers to tell the future

The Norse did draw lots, though. Take sticks, cut them to the same length, carve outcomes onto them, and then blind draw until you've got one remaining. That's the only actual method we have evidence for, if I remember correctly.
Does Tacitus writing count as evidence? (+Anskar for it being a Norse thing too)
Though it seems like something between what you described and what i wrote (error for my description: its "pick 3 from the cast lots", not interpret position. Also by historical source it should be fruit bearing tree, not Elm,)
Article:
Tacitus, in Chapter X of his Germania (circa 98 AD), describes casting lots as a practice used by the Germanic tribes. He states:

"To divination and casting of lots, they pay attention beyond any other people. Their method of casting lots is a simple one: they cut a branch from a fruit-bearing tree and divide it into small pieces which they mark with certain distinctive signs and scatter at random onto a white cloth. Then, the priest of the community if the lots are consulted publicly, or the father of the family if it is done privately, after invoking the gods and with eyes raised to heaven, picks up three pieces, one at a time, and interprets them according to the signs previously marked upon them."[5]

In the ninth century Anskar, a Frankish missionary and later bishop of Hamburg-Bremen, observed the same practice several times in the decision-making process of the Danish peoples. In this version, the chips were believed to determine the support or otherwise of gods, whether Christian or Norse, for a course of action or act. For example, in one case a Swedish man feared he had offended a god and asked a soothsayer to cast lots to find out which god. The soothsayer determined that the Christian god had taken offence; the Swede later found a book that his son had stolen from Bishop Gautbert in his house.[6]

why would it make more sense though?
both methods are cabable of giving you the information you want and are affected by luck so they should count for divination.

If you want to cross a river writing 'I will take a boat' and 'I will make a bridge' and drawing one of the two gets you an answer. What does rolling/drawing AFQG mean?

You can assign it meaning in theory, but it's easier to just pick something with actual meaning.

The "get random letters" method may not be relevant to the discussion, but still:
Probably that the gods don't care enough about you for chance to make the lots spell "boat" or "bridge".

my dumb brain saw those and for a moment decided those are element symbols(ie from the periodic table. just sick, tired, brain seeing N with a number, then H and I and U and C all with numbers and deciding its chemistry

"Not as much food this time around..." Toki observes as a bead of purple sweat trickles down his brow. His veins stand out against his earthy skin, lines of runic red stark against rough flesh. Though he doesn't show it on his face, you know the poison is setting his blood aflame—after all, it's doing the same to you.

You shrug, joints aching in protest at the movement, "Not as much food this year."

He frowns, "Will this affect our ongoing deal?"

"It shouldn't."

"Then it is not our problem," Toki tries to stretch his fingers, but finds them stiff and unresponsive. "Nevertheless, I find these negotiations acceptable."

He holds out his hand, which you quickly take. For a moment, the lack of pressure on your fingers and hand has you at a loss—until you realize that they've gone numb. With that thought comes the equally sluggish realization that you really should've already noticed that by now.

Shaking his hand, you anxiously wait as the mediator reviews the proceedings. Finding them acceptable, he hands them off to the mediator's judge who then scans it in turn. Nodding, the judge conjures up the antivenom from some hidden pouch in his expansive beard and places it before each of you.

As one, you, Toki, and the mediator upend the vials and pour the contents down your throat. The taste and texture resembles a gritty, sand-like liquid, yet it leaves behind a greasy coating on your throat and tongue. However, in that moment, it's like you've got a mouthful of Idunn's apples.

The poison swiftly leaves your system, leaving you with a face full of smiles. Though you were half expecting the mediator to drop dead just like last time, today the mediator gets to leave just the same as you and Toki.

As the mediator packs up and leaves alongside the judge, Toki folds his fingers on the table and eyes you with a careful look. "Now then, shall we get on with the questions?"

You nod. What questions do you have for him? (Note: You can only ask questions regarding the Underhouse)
[ ] Write in some questions, baybee

Also, would you like to use any of the new materials in your upcoming crafting projects?
[ ] Yes, you will
-[ ] In what ways? (Write in)
[ ] No, you won't

AN: Sorry for the short update, I screwed up and didn't give an option for you to ask questions in the last update and this is the result.

No moratorium, but I don't think that there's very high chances of another update today, unfortunately.

I have no idea for questions. I'll add a vote for any that seem good.

[X] Yes, you will
-[X] Three Socket Stones total will be used on our armor

This was always the plan. The action is written that way.

EDIT:
[X] *Describe the events in our Underhouse* "Do you have any idea what might have happened?"
-[X] Specifically ask about the child's bones and what might have been going on there

Added the second bit.
