Wait, how do you figure? The Apprenticeship usually lasts about ten years in total; she spent 2.5-3 years as a Junior Apprentice depending on how you count and the precise months involved, so we should expect to have her for around seven years. Her Journey is likely to begin ca. T54, not T46-49.

For calibration, we went into the College at ten and emerged a Journeywoman at twenty. Eike went in at eleven and is currently fifteenish.
I mean, Eike does seem on track to massively outclass journeyman mathilde far before she hits 21. So we might end up sending her out early. Probably not 8 turns early though, yeah.

... would people be willing to go for a compromise where we put the Gambler on Windherding the Speculum? It would mitigate the risks of death or arcane mark, and could help give Mathilde a breakthrough which could then be applied to the Foundation action. Thoughts?
I don't like the speculum idea to start with as that's cataclysm magic that we don't even know yet, when we can only normal enchant fiendishly complex. It's a reach goal IMO. If it was another spell combo like the cloak suggestion earlier, that would seem better IMO.

As for Red Riders becoming spiders, I think it's cool, but I don't know if it's as directly useful as Nazgul equivalents for the "I'm getting swarmed" problem. A knight is much better offensively, especially given that there won't be the setup of webbing, etc.

Regarding the Kiselv rollout, at this point it's probably going to involve going over the Tsar's head and working with Boris to negotiate with individual Boyar's to get anything done.

Neither needs to hurry to get information home because it's very unlikely the current Tsar would prioritize building them.

In addition to being more inefficient this overall strikes me as somewhat inauspicious and has a chance of backfiring I think. So I'd prefer to shore up our position regarding what we can promise before making the offer.

Going to be honest, this post made me actually interested in voting for it rather than the passivity interested in it as an idea.

Because I hate this argument. Arcane marks, bad miscast, death… it's called being a wizard.

We have taken all the Major infrastructure and safety actions we can take, we frankly have one of, if not the, safest places in the world to create and practise magic, far far more them most of the people that have made all of the major spell in the setting.

We take major breaks between such actions as well.

And we always have the seed in hand(pun intended) and a blast wall in every tower.

Find a better argument than 'miscast/arcane mark scary' please, because at this point we are well past the point that a self respecting wizard researcher can let that stop them.
We only have to screw up once, and it's game over. Boney has been very explicit about that. One of our biggest safety nets for magical experimentation has been the Gamber, and it's very foolish to do our most dangerous magical experiments without it - if Redshirt posts the version of his plan that puts the Gamber on Windherding, I'm willing to approval vote it over similar plans without it.

Ugh. Every single plan is going to have both liminal realms and Eike enchanting, huh?

Might just skip this vote.

It makes no sense to me that the first time letting her fly solo is when we send her out journeying.

That is in fact the whole difference between an apprentice and a journeyman. One is sent out solo, the other is not. If you want to graduate her, just do it.

Nuance is a thing though? There's a difference between going solo for weeks or a few months, as opposed to years. The former indeed helps prepare for the latter. Apprentices are also certainly sent out on their own after certain development checkpoints are hit.

Plan Roadmap to Success and its variant Plan Roadmap to Success + Ranald Liminal have Eike studying tradecraft with the Hochlander rather than enchanting.

A plan without liminal realms seems unlikely to get traction; the position that Mathilde should leave that action alone for other wizards to research seems to be strongly minority. But perhaps the Ranald Liminal variant, by putting the Coin on it, is closer to your feelings about what Mathilde would do?
Isn't Enchanting kind of pretty dangerous to do when you're a very young Wizard, which Eike is?
Enchanting is always tricky, but there's a limit to how bad a miscast can be when you're only throwing around a small amount of energies. Worst-case scenario is "she picks up another Arcane Mark and doesn't learn how to enchant," not "she dies." There's nothing dictating that being a young wizard makes it harder.
