A familiar would give her an extra point of magic, that is the guaranteed gift. That said given the dangers of familiar obsession I am not sure I want to expose her to it right out of her apprenticeship.
A familiar giving +1 Magic isn't a guarantee at all, it's a random roll each time to see what magical ability is obtained. We got lucky with Wolf, and Boney went "what's up with your rolls?" because it was so on-point for us.

This is probably an oversight on my part (it would've been done if possible): can Johann remove his tainted chamon eyesockets then regenerate it with Ghyran?
iirc theres too much chamon in his eyes to use ghyran safely, and if you scooped out all the parts with chamon then there wouldn't be enough left to remake the eyeball. The only way for him to get eyes back is to get new ones with a full head gilding

I think the viability of a dwarf book was asked before, but I cant remember what the answer was

All the familiar bonuses are fairly good. But in Eike's somewhat privileged position I think that I would hold out for a very special familiar rather than just getting a random wolf. Maybe something from the imperial zoo.

Yes? I mean even if it is still translated it is Skaven lore on the Chaos Dwarfs.
I had assumed translations of the same book/content wouldn't net us a bonus since they hold the same insight. Hence why it's probably an abstraction.

Did you check her Social action?
Similar age to Panoramia.
Somehow missed that, woops. And Panoramia is barely younger than Mathilde so Tochter might be a contemporary depending on when she graduated from Apprentice.

Familiars are extremely rare and physical form doesn't matter that much. There probably isn't a single potential familiar in the entirety of the Zoo, and if there is we have to justify why we need to take some extremely rare and exotic animal from the Zoo instead of just looking for a normal familiar elsewhere.

Wolf is not some "random wolf", how dare you besmirch the name of the Goodest Boy like that? What, is a divine doggo not good enough for you? The only thing Eike should take over her own god-given puppy is, like, a Dragon or something. And I don't even know if Dragons can be familiars!

So I was thinking of the library vote in light of next turn. Here is my proposal:

[] [LIBRARY] Barak Varr booksellers: The Druchii of Naggaroth, Lustria, Ethics
  1. The Druchi so will can have as a good of a bonus as we can get to talk to the SoBs, yes I know there are no dwarf books so it is not the numerically optimal play, but if we were to buy all the Imperial Druchi books with money that would be 250 Gold, almost half of our total funds and I do not think that is worth it
  2. Lustria to help give context to those papers. If we roll well enough we might have some general insight on the Lizardmen and once we have that we can look for references in the Library of Mornings. This is relevant to the waystone project due to the Geomantic Web and maybe even the Foundation of most Waystones being Slann/Old One work
  3. Ethics because we have a baby Grey wizard on our hands and the only skill we have not tested out is intrigue. She is going to have questions about the morality of some of the things that fall under the heading

Just saying it would have been nice to be able to bring our familiar on the Kragg Dun expedition and Eike should be able to get a familiar that is useful in it's own right even absence familiar traits.

Seems to me like the best use of the action would be to copy one of the libraries we now have access to.

Wolf isn't just a "random wolf", he's a gift from Ranald. Not to mention that Wolf could have grown into a winter wolf. In fact I still hold hope that Wolf will grow into a winter wolf, he's just a late late bloomer.

They don't, We get the +1 Esoteric Skaven bonus from the book, which is separate information from the other bonuses (+3 imperial, +5 Dwarven).
But it's supposed to be the same book that Mathilde and Johann looted, which was translated into Imperial by Max. So I don't understand how we get a +1 Esoteric Skaven Bonus if they have the same material in a different language (Imperial).

I think that was the anatomy book on them that Mathilde and Johann looted.
You check in on Maximilian, who has returned to grappling with the Skaven book on Chaos Dwarf anatomy,
[Anatomy of the Fire Dwarves of Zharr-Naggrund. Subject: Rare, +1. Insight: Revolutionary, +2. Delivery: Compelling, +1. Exotic, +1. Thorough, +1. Varied, +1. Tactically Relevant, +1. Anonymous, -1. Total: 7.]
the translation of a book on Chaos Dwarf anatomy by Magister Grey and Journeyman Gold,

We don't get it as an imperial bonus, no matter what language the book is in the bonus category is from the culture that produced it, a recent example is the Tilean swordplay books Eike brought in.

[ ] Try to see through Pall of Darkness with your improved magical senses.
I am now somewhat tempted by this option simply because it's our only self improvement option where I feel like Eike might be able to contribute. Her completely different windsense might open doors.

Can we please check up on the Salamanders? Pretty Please?!!! They would have grown up, had kids and died twice over by now. Please just get that backlog out of our Char sheet. My head pounds and my heart spontaneously develops arrhythmia everytime I see that Pending message next to the Salamanders in the char sheet. PLEASE for the love of all that is holy.

Normal salamanders live 20 years and chinese giant salamanders can live 60. I don't see why Lustrian salamanders would live less than that, they're almost certainly still alive unless there's been some sort of accident.

Mammoth.
If only because the idea of a tiny little Ulgu wizard-girl accompanied everywhere by a 20-foot-tall mammoth is amusing.

Eike should have a cat. Preferably a white one that she can stroke while monologuing.
Advantages that can come purely from familiar species.

Combat: Having a Mammoth or something could certainly be useful in combat. If we were not gray wizards I might campaign for some sort of mount to ride into battle, but we are. However if getting a large familiar it should be something that can fly or hide itself because otherwise trying to keep it on hand would be a super pain. So rather than a Mammoth maybe some sort of Drake. Of course artificial familiars are also common.

Senses: Wolf is actually good for this. Having an extra super nose is fairly useful. But I feel like Eike could maybe get a familiar with extra senses out the wazzo. Senses familiars are also likely to be extra useful if they are small enough to always have with you.
