-[X] Aki's soul may be asleep, but he may be dreaming. "I don't know if you're going to remember this later, but I'm going to tell you anyway. If you're willing to be part of a great struggle, then remember. All three Aspects when you're at rest and weave them together, do it inside the fence of a farm, and have company to wake you up from the shock of the impact. It's dangerous, but you've never shied away from that. This is the gift of knowledge I offer to you, for your friendship, and the hurt you took aiding me and my kin, whether you take it up or not is your choice and your own story."

So to cultivate in foreign lands, you pretty much need to own a ship?

If you cultivate in the wilds or in someone else's property do you just up and die, then?
The at home part is about slowing cultivation, meaning more time to deal with the unconciousness and gateclosing.
Once you no longer pass out and can close the gate when you want, cultivation outside is more effective.

Pride is a big deal in Norse society.
Vegeta would do very well in Norse society

...

Dammit, the internet has failed me yet again. Where are the images of Vegeta with the Norwegian flag poorly photoshopped onto him?! Where are they?!
Uhh... Halla cultivates in the wilds regularly. She even cultivated for the first time that way.
That little spot under the ash is on your property.

Take from this what you will, but I will leave the information with you here regardless, if you are willing to take up the responsibility and risks of delving into these secrets. When you have a Farm of your own, a place that you can truly call yourself King in, Summon your allies to you within your fence to serve as guardians and companions, and with your Orthstirr at its heights, stoke your Aspects further still. Weave them together as one, and you will find within a Path Forward, should you have the strength and fortitude to endure the flood of inspiration and the courage to face the great Foe of our people and his minions when his eye turns to you later. This is a secret I gift to you, as a symbol of our friendship and my thanks for the harm you took aiding me and my kin, but take care, the Enemy will not allow us to spread it further without challenge, and it may be some time yet before we can prepare a field to face it's reprisal."
-[X] Thank Modgudr for her help and her patience with you.

Ah, the grey zone between what is owned but outside of the fenced in are and true wilderness....
...
Oh, we would have died even with help in the halding forest, if we had started true cultivation outside our property, huh? Or is there no difference between land owned but not cultivated and wilderness, aside from the "wilder the land better the Odr flow" thing?

I guess Norse cultivation isn't as accessible as we thought it was. True Norse cultivation, that is.

Oh.

Oh

That's why Ship and Sail is such a big deal, it's effectively giving you the ability to cultivate Odr on the go, isn't it? As long as you've got a nearby waterway and access to it.

It also means you have a ship. You can now lead raids and trading expeditions instead of camping on someone else's ship.

Perhaps a consideration is, is it a cultivation big deal because it's culturally a big deal, or is it culturally a big deal because it a cultivation big deal? And is there a difference?

Because culture is cultivation in this setting. So much so that you can ask questions like, 'Did Odin exist before the Norse, or did their belief of Odin create Odin, or is Odin a cultivator, etc'.

Oh.... Shit, right, cultivation is made by culture.....
Does... Does this mean when the internet became available to the wider public the many fan clubs and such created a million new cultivation styles?
Like, does everything with a big enough following that a mini culture with in jokes and such has the possibility of creating a new style?
Star Trek and Doctor Who cultivation sounds crazy.....
...oof, I am not gonna say what I just thought.

I assume if this world ever does reach the modern era, cultivation would just be much more... freeform than before. At least, internet cultivation would be, instead of each mini culture on the internet forming it's own system. I imagine capitalism cultivation would also a be thing, along with democracy maybe?

That sounds...overly specific. Jarls and Thralls in Norse society live very different lives but are part of the same Cultivation system to say nothing of Priests, Knights, and peasants in the Feudal system

Most of the people who spend time on the internet still live in a culture and society that is broader than any one specific fandom and grew up in that society so things like Star Trek or Dr. Who are too specific, I think. Now, 'Nerd Culture' in general, or maybe 'Internet Culture', those might actually be broad and large enough to create a cultivation style, but it'd be one style for the more widespread culture, not one for every little subdivision.

We've had American Cultivation mentioned with its pursuit of the American Dream. I don't think Capitalism or Democracy are full cultures in and of themselves, they're instead aspects of a culture, and would color how its cultivation style worked rather than being separate things in and of themselves.

I don't think a thrall could advance in Norse Cultivation until they freed themselves. Thralls aren't just low-class they're outside the class system altogether.

They can't advance, yes, but they're still apart of the system. I believe becoming a thrall strips someone of their orthstirr entirely and prevents them from obtaining it, iirc?

Presumably bouncing back to whatever-they-had if they become free. There's no shame in having been a thrall if it's past-tense.

Ofc the life of a thrall has numerous opportunities for nid and none for drengskapr, so it's still pretty terrible for you.

Per Imperial Fister, Thralls have Orthstirr and mechanically behave much as other Norsemen except they can only gain Orthstirr from loyally serving their master and the osmosis from their master being awesome, which means that lifelong thralls tend to have tiny pools by most standards. So they're weak and limited compared to freemen, yes, but they are very much part of the system.

There are also the thrall-manacles, which keep a Thrall who used to be free and powerful (and thus had plenty of orthstirr) and has just been enslaved powered down and unable to actually use that orthstirr.

No one ever expects Viking ships on land. Also man, this quest alone is making me actually want to check out Vinland Saga.

I do like the fact that Vikings are basically trailer park hooligans with their ships. And if any of them ever decides to innovate and install wheels on their boats to make flatter lands not safe, it'll make Odr cultivation even more hilarious.

I'd like to to take a second to appreciate Modgudr's cleaning skills. She's a goddess, so you wouldn't expect her to be very good at taking out the trash - yet she did it so fast, Halla didn't even notice it! She only managed to catch the aftermath of her getting rid of the remains. She really is nicer than she looks. Best cousin.
