Well, in light of that we shouldn't use Contested Movement, just going with big defenses...remember that, if we're using Punching Up we can put more than 1d6 into basic defenses, so getting the first three or four to, like, 12-14d6 each might be a good call.

And noting a preferential use of Halting Vortex when we aren't doing the 3Fold attack might also be good. It's gonna be both cheaper and better when it's possible to use.
Contested Movement is very good. We get a 50-50 on negating an attack and getting an attack in return for a mere 3 Orthsirr against peer enemies. We really should be spamming it whenever possible.

Not against things that pretty much certainly have significantly higher Hamr than us, which includes this thing. We should 100% use it against many foes...but giant monsters like this? Not so much.

The Orthstirr-to-damage ratio gets real bad if our odds of success on the Hamr check are low.

It's actually both, as long as we're in the air, it makes Perfect EWC a very high priority focus for us.

Yeah, the 'in the air' bit is what makes me declare it 'as good'. There's still a conditional, just a different one. It will indeed be better once we hit Perfect on EWC, but that's a ways off (62 successes is a while away), and until then it only activates when we're burning hard...which isn't a bad thing, but it is a limitation.

Mmm.

Anyway, added Punching-Up and revised everything. We've got 6 12 die defenses in case it manages to somehow attack with every sword while we're using a Folded Attack (Which shouldn't be easy given our mobility edge being further boosted by EWC, but it's best to overprepare and not need it). +4 dice from Punching Up on each of them. I put the leftover 4 Punching Up dice into working on the Skewer-Flick to create distance again in that case.

Because if we need all of those defenses, we're going to want to stack them as hard as we can.

Also interesting that other kennings weaken in strength when they aren't your primary one. Longstride dropped to +4d when it moved to second place.

Presumably by the time it hits 5th place it'll be a mere +1d to overland rolls.

Works for me.

[X] Plan: Like a Kite, we fly

Minor remaining mechanics notes:

1. Technically, the defenses need to be Honed x3 (and presumably Reinforced x3) if you want a Honed x4 attack. The highest Hone in a plan can never be more than one point higher than the lowest (un-Honeable stuff aside).
2. We don't have Sidestep right now so it shouldn't be in the plan.

Neither are likely to be relevant in this specific case, but they seem worth noting for future reference.

Would Perfected EWC allow us to use it as a cross-country travel option, or is there a way to upgrade it even further so it can?

Jetpack > horse.

It should since it's free at that point, yes.

Yup. Of course, what's in first and/or second place is something we can effect, not just a pure seniority thing, so Longstride is only likely to drop that low if we want it to.

What a sight you must be, covered in blood, gore, and now the ash of their burning home. No wonder they're scared!
...I would like to see a picture of what Halla looks like in her Ash-fire bloodserker image.

Well... we probably honestly would let it drop that low (or even eliminated), really, +d to Overland Rolls isn't exactly amazing you know :p

We haven't even used it once!

Unrelated topic, but now that we will start learning Seidr maybe we should rise our Fylgja?

Since the Fylgja is supposed to help with spiritual things, it should influence the use of Seidr right?

I mean, our Fylgja is litteraly a Wizard-Owl!

I think any assumptions about what stats are used in seidr need to wait until we learn the basics. That said, our Fylgja is at 5 with Infusion 3 to boot...that's not actually a low score at all.

[ ] Head to the Blacksmith with Torsten, the Elephant Merchant, Haleikr, and Sten
[ ] Head to the Woodshop with Stigmar, Steinarr, Folkmarr, and Audrikr
[ ] Head to the Weavery with Abjorn and Gabriel
[ ] Head to the Brewery with Tryggr, Trausti, and Aki
[ ] The collapsed Brewery
[ ] Where the ship sits where the Blacksmith used to be
[ ] Where the flames engulf the Woodshop
[ ] To the silent Weavery
Let's compare..

Blacksmith -> Literally converted into a Ship? It's probably not Sten who is responsible, but after that...
Woodshop -> Wow Steinarr Freedfire, burning everything down.
Weavery -> Silent? Either Gabriel and Abjorn stomped the shit out of things or they got stomped, or they didn't get hit (lolno).
Brewery -> We're here!

It's probably Hugr and Housecraft, honestly.

Seidr falls under Hugr.

Honestly a shitload of stuff falls under Hugr, for that matter. Seidr, Hugareida, Twists, Muna..

..And basically nothing falls under Fylgja.. as far as we know.

Twists and Muna are only nominally under Hugr, in fairness. They take up Capacity and that's their sole interaction with it.

And Seidr might easily use multiple stats depending on the variety of seidr...we just don't actually know yet. Soon we shall receive this information. Soon.

Let's see..

Unknown (in descending order of estimated powerlevel):

Steinarr Freedfire - ???
Torsten Twoshield - ???

---Powergap---

The Elephant Merchant - ???
Sten Iskearauta - ???
Audrikr Fishfighter - ???
Haleikr - ???

---Powergap---

Abjorn Vidarsson - ???
Halla Skyfire - That's us!
Gabriel Blackstone - ???
Folkmarr Manetaker - ???
Hasvir Hasvirsonarsonr - KO (Can't fight)
Tryggr Broadteeth - KO (Can't fight)
Trausti Pinchfinger - KO (Can't fight)

---Powergap---

Stigmar Kersson - ???

---*two* Powergaps---

Aki Weaponwing - KO (Bodily Dead)

Plus Hardir Haraldson and Veny Hasvirsonardottur as noncombatants.

Hmm..

If everyone else is fine, we're probably on net down by about 10~20% of our total combat power. About half from Orthsirr expenditure and half from losing people.

Aki I don't think is Dead (And IF promised that Aki's Plot was Interesting enough that he wasn't going to get Offscreened) but he is most definitely KO-ed

I guess if he was Dead Dead, we wouldn't have found his Fylgja there.

Still, all things considered, I think the fight's going reasonably well? Gabriel and Abjorn aren't going to go down quietly, given the latter is an absolute beast with at least 16 Endurance and Gabriel is a Squire and all of their huge dice pools and stupidly good armor (And he apparently had a Breakthrough as well, so he probably got even tougher), so if things are quiet there, they must have facerolled their front and went to reinforce another one like we did--Probably the front Folkmarr's at because anything capable of stalling Steinarr out is going to flatten anyone below his tier.

All things considered, I don't think Horra would have put something too scary in the Weavery. Since that's unlikely to get significant kills because the most dangerous people are going to go for the most valuable spots. The one we fought at the house was probably not the toughest one, but it was the one absolutely meant to take someone the fuck out in a sneak attack, and then fight extremely well afterwards.

Should have ??? like the rest.

Hasvir Hasvirsonarsonr - KO (Can't fight)

Should likely be rated a bit higher. I think Hasvir is probably top 20 in the Valley if measured properly (and not poisoned). Folkmarr isn't and Gabriel may not be either.

Trausti Pinchfinger - KO (Can't fight)

I'm not sure this is correct, actually. He's outmatched but doesn't seem unconscious or incapable of getting back in the fight if given a moment. Rating him below his brother may also be incorrect, though that's harder to tell.

I'm also not positive that the gap behind him and ahead of Stigmar is fair. Stigmar's definitely not quite as badass, but I dunno if it's gap-worthy (like, we're more badass than Tryggr or Trausti but there's not a gap there).

Aki Weaponwing - KO (Bodily Dead)

Wouldn't assume he's even bodily dead, but he's definitely out of the fight, it's true.

Stigmar's still a damned solid fighter, he's just overshadowed by the fact he's a member of a Band of Heroes. In literally any other group, he'd be the veteran backbone of the crew.

But just by surviving and participating in this nonsense, he's getting stronger, really fast--and eventually, he'll damn well warrant standing with our company. He's just got a rougher start because he doesn't seem to have a Stat Booster like everyone else does yet.

Hoo boy, we're also getting pretty close to this event being one of the single greatest Orthstirr Windfalls of our career as well. We've earned 30 so far, and we've got a Bonus Fight and the Final Boss still ahead, then the actual Quest Completion reward to boot. Our gang's going to be eating glory good.

Yeah, Stigmar is solid but he seems not to have a Hugareida of note or a stat-boosting Boon, so he's probably stuck at Hamr 6 without shapeshifting at the moment, which leaves him a bit lackluster compared to the Squire and three people with Hamr 7-8 and Hugareida. To say nothing of Halla's bullshit.

The Orthstirr from this should be pretty solid, yeah.

Actually, I just noticed something: @Imperial Fister wasn't Stigr also with us (he was listed at the beginning of the combat, anyway)? If so, which group did he go with?

Honestly, there should be, like, 20 more names on that list before Halla is even mentioned. I was speaking pretty off-the-cuff when I made it.

I should make a proper list at some point

I knew I forgot someone, dammit.

He's at the Weavery.

I think he'd have stuck with Stigmar? Woodshop is relevant to his interests too.

But yeah, completing an Official Hero's Work should give us Weight as well as an extra bounty of Orthstirr.

EDIT: HAHA, Oh yeah, all three of them? Whatever was at the Weavery would have absolutely gotten destroyed. Stigr's a Talent on par with the rest of our Band, and he's come a long way to recover from his slowdown period from when he was Cursed.

I think, on the whole, so far we've been making the Right Decisions in this sequence? We did well in the zerg rush, we gave up loot and saved several lives in doing so, as well as got to neutralize the trap that was left behind with the ballista-armed Frenzy Threaded Man, and we picked the exact theatre that needed a save, since they had just wiped and were about to get coup de graced.

Our Orthstirr is also doing reasonably well, and we haven't broken the Odr bank either, just two drops for the IAT that sealed the fate of our target. So we'll be able to Punch Up and Contribute in the Final Boss Battle.

That's fair. I was mainly just referencing it to indicate that Folkmarr probably isn't a match for Halla in a straight fight while Hasvir, I suspect, very much is.

I knew I forgot someone, dammit.

He's at the Weavery.

Cool. That doesn't change anything about what we'd have done, then.

I dunno if I'd go quite that far. He's pretty solid though, and more importantly he's lucky, so the group he's with probably met up with the weakest of these things. And if that's the case they're likely fine.

I think that's true so far, yeah. We'll see if it winds up still being correct after the current fight, though I obviously have high hopes.

Personally, I'm hoping that owning a ship gives prestige like having a good farm does, effectively a passive buff to our descendants who have it as long as the ship lasts.
