Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

All I can see in the future is that this is the start of when the USA took MEntal Health Seriously, because some famous person on TV decided to go into an asylum willingly, to get help.

That seems like a helluva statement for 70's America

Watch how we become extremely popular amongst veterans.

McLean Stevenson wasn't a household name in the early 1970s but the lawsuits we are going to launch against CBS for their shenanigans and fuckups will really raise his stock. It seems to be written that we'll win the lawsuits against CBS to the point where CBS itself could go bankrupt and be shut down - I'm wondering if some of those responsible for skimping on safety on the M*A*S*H set might actually face criminal charges - and that sort of thing will really generate publicity.

The Vietnam War also gained a lot of publicity with a lot of film footage from the front line being shown on American TV news programs (especially the Tet Offensive). With more publicity about damage to mental health from the lawsuit with McLean and CBS, and realising that just working on a bad enough TV set was enough to really mess an actor up psychologically, hopefully there will be more incentive for Vietnam veterans to come forward about their experiences. And hopefully the American public will be more sympathetic and receptive.

But most professional and amateur boxers rest for a least a week before the next bout, so they can be physically checked out by a physician, and to allow themselves to heal.

And yes, what we did was a breach of so many safety regulations, any sane boxing tournament runners would have stopped us at two fights.

I'm betting that Bruce thinks that is just the standard for boxing tournaments, then casually mentioning it in passing to one of the more experienced people in Hollywood he's friends with, and then be surprised as they lose their shit over such blatant disregard for safety.

I can still see them dropping George and Co. as the execs could see it as a fluke and want to not risk it again.

Lucas and Coppola founded American Zoetrope so it would be really hard to fire them from it. The execs in question who were dissatisfied with THX1138 were the ones at Warner Bros, the studio, not the production company.

But George and Coppola founded the company.

They founded American Zoe trope for creative freedom from the studio executives, so why did Lucas found Lucasfilm as a separate venture? they were both production companies so wouldn't that just be duplication of effort? Would a better reception for THX 1138 mean that Lucasfilm wouldn't be founded?

We did guys! We can help the American mental crisis!

Or at very least bring awareness to it decades before it really took off.

If we're lucky.

Bruce just casually does insane feats of athleticism without batting an eye, everyone thinks he's insane.

i swear, its just gonig to be accepted that most people will expect him to do something insane every film, doing it entirely by accident.

Well Lucas Films was founded in 1971.

It really might just lead to George working more by himself on his passion projects more, then the company disintegrating.

IIRC, Zoetrope was guided mainly by Coppola's vision and ideas of filmmaking (see also, The Conversation). The person really driving the company was Coppola--Lucas just happens to be the biggest name amongst the others who were part of the company when it was starting up. (Walter Murch and Caleb Deschanel are other prominent guys, just not quite with Lucas' cachet.) While Coppola could (and did--see Deschanel's The Feature Artist) protect filmmakers from studio interference, he still had some input over their efforts. Lucas, after the THX 1138 debacle, preferred to keep creative control over everything he did, so he set up Lucasfilm where he wouldn't have to answer to anyone, including Coppola.

A better reception for THX 1138 might mean Warner Bros. won't pull the plug on Lucas' version of Apocalypse Now this time around, actually.

Problem: The Studio Leadership doesn't know what they hell it's doing, and half-assed it's organization.
Solution: Become the Leadership.
This is Hollywood, only idiots seem to be able to run Big studios, who have no talent for filmmaking or ideas. And the only time they do something right is when there are actually talented people running the show.

So really it should be no surprise that once ILM, Lucas Films and other staff got started and developed the tech, the leaches of the Studio's became wealthy off of his stuff.

good thing that in the 80's there were lots of directors that were given free rein.

And by lots of directors, I mean Spielberg:V
we could actually run a security company with US veterans if we win the lawsuit
Now that would be a change.

I was just rereading the beginning of the quest and the section asking about what period of Hollywood to play during, specifically the 80s, got me thinking. With the mention of anime in its description and with our budding connection with eventual Sci-fi legend, George Lucas, what if we get Hollywood Gundam movies to be produced?

That'd be rad, but would we be able to pull it off? Live action mecha is...not something I remember ever looking good.

I was thinking more along the lines of what was done in Empire Strikes Back but we certainly don't have to do it right away or anything.
I mean, I'm trying to imagine the 1986 Transformers movie done in live-action instead of animation with era-appropriate SFX and it's, uh, not turning out very well in my imagination. On top of all the other problems it had back then.

Hey didn't they have a live Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live where the main characters were animatronics? Or was that the '90s I thought it was the '80s though. That turned out pretty good and I thought it was pretty cool when I was a kid when I saw it for the first time.

Edit: NVM it's the early 90's.

Using 70s/80s-era special effects?!
I mean Robot Jox was a thing?

Even though it blatantly ripped off Battletech, in an almost ever convincible way, and it basically just used miniatures...

Yeah, I can see where that could lead to that thing.

... Yeah.
Ready Player One I thought managed to make both Gundam and Mecha Godzilla look amazing and I guess the Iron Giant. Though yes I don't know if it'd be possible to look good in the 80s/90s.
In animation perhaps, but I only brought it up because... we might have that star wars money to blow on all sorts of crazy bullshit.

I seen 70 cartoons........ Some are good, some are bad.

Also do we even know if Star Wars will turn out good in this universe? It could just end up as another M.A.S.H..

Well, here's hoping that George, who will (likely) be a far more experienced DIrector, and not beholden to idiots like CBS Board of Directors...

Or Fox (but considering Alan Laad, we most likely still have freedom.)

So unless God himself says "Fuck you." In particular to this film... I think anything we work on will be better then MASH.

I'm kinda hoping we could somehow convince George to make some Star Wars spin-offs so that we could be our own character.

And also potentially have him get better at writing and directing should he still try to make the prequels.

Or we can be the one who helms the projects to get better at directing and screen writing too?

Competent Consequences: Turn 13 (May 1972)
You looked at the long list of the report and let out a sigh, before realizing the door to your apartment was open, and you saw your sister waiting for you there. "Hey, Kid." She said as you rubbed your eyes and realized she was there.

"Yah!" You shouted as you jumped in surprise. "What are you doing here Cat?" You raised your voice as you saw her husband and kids sitting on the couch, getting themselves ready to settle in for the day.

Then the suitcases showed up in your vision. "What happened?"

Cat looked away as her husband spoke. "She got fired. Someone heard about what you're doing to CBS and their bosses talked to other bosses… and you know Hollywood. It's a shit show.."

WHAT? "For what reason? Why?"

"Seems you pissed some people off," Cat stated as she sat down in the chair, as she revealed a bottle of whisky. "Checks aren't going in, and now my contract is void."

Jesus Christ. These Assholes were really starting to piss you off. "Is everything okay?"

"What about you kid?" Cat said as she looked at your hands. "We saw the paper, and mom freaked out when she read about you fighting 13 amateur boxing matches!" She pulled you close and just seemed to bore into your soul, yet you looked away. "What the hell is wrong with you? Do you have any idea how hurt you could have been? How it could have looked."

"I won every match in the first round." You said without hesitation. "Hardly touched me.

"Yeah, and then what? Going boxing to get over your anger, that won't help you, or anyone else?"

"It was a competition, it was all regulated." You said.

"That isn't the point?" Cat stated. "You wanted to be an actor, but you're throwing yourself at doing everything but what you want."

"Well, Hollywood has only shown me that it's a scummy place. Where people like me and you, with actual talent, can't make it anywhere! It's all about money and class and fame, that is as hollow as a five dollar bill." You complained. "I came to this town wanting to be somebody. To be something, to be better than dad and better than what everyone wanted."

You sat on the floor and looked down at the cold tile. "You can and you will." Cat replied as she hugged you.

Reward: Cat is now living with you.

So here is what I want to do:

Cat: Maybe we have clout to get her a job? Maybe we don't. But hey, if we can get her a job, that will make her happy with us.

Acting Directing: Might as well try to capitalize on Bruce's Reputation and our own, and make things awesome.

Call Parents: We neglected that for too long, and I think it may be good to try and get advice.

Networking (Coppola): Yes, I want to see if we can deepen a relationship with one of the most famous directors in modern hollywood history.

Networking: Romero: Zombies... That is all.
