Firstly - we know it could be a matter of Imperial import, this makes that clear (albeit for a reason that we're not too worried about)
Secondly - This gives a clear reason why it needs to be dealt with quietly. We don't want the Haupt-Anderson connection being examined too deeply, and this explains why - investigating it publicly would make that retaliatory strike more likely, rather than less likely.

[] Favour to the Empress is the most honest option in its own way, for anyone wanting to vote on those grounds. We haven't actually informed her of the transaction yet, but we're very much aware that if we did take the time to pop down to Altdorf to discuss it with her she'd send us right back with promises of repayment, and I do expect we'll get some favors out of it even looking into things on our own initiative. Dealing with this sort of thing was the entire premise of the job offer she gave us.

I think that's one of the few things we can assume WoQM. So the four days thing is coincidental and not directly related to Ranald.
Mentioning Ranald isn't worth it anymore though if it wasn't foreshadowing. Being a Ranaldite is quite the bomb, not big enough in Regimand's scale of things, still something to drop on him though. There's also no reward for invoking him compared to Mira or The Empress if he's not one.
