Super Robot Quest

We'll just need to help them make proper security measures, and ensure that they have sufficient safeguards. One of the big reasons I want them to have an AI, and on further review, it looks like Peter's was expecting AI requests to start this year, so this seems like a excellent way to start spreading AIs amongst our forces.
An AI to keep tabs on Fulgr energy and help out Ground Pound? I'm up for it.

i'm really curious as to what the last one is.

i'm still inclined for us to keep the faerie power source.

>giving the gm ideas

I mean I basically created some bs lore about actual hell and he didn't deny its existence yet soooo

Worst case my hell and the nightmare hell particles are two separate things lok

Believe in Getter!

But seriously, glad the conversation is being entertaining.

Also this whole setup is basically just screaming "Backstory for the Forbidden Super Prototype Machine that's hinted at but never seen until the Movie"

It just occurred to me that faedium crystals might be perfect for our Funnel/Fangs project. After all, the problem is fitting powerful enough weapons, power source, and propulsion on a small scale, and Faedium sounds like it would help with making weapons and power sources smaller.

"...so anyways, that demonstration is how I lost my Unity Station researcher privileges!"

Sam blinks. "Huh. So that's how that sorted out. I kind of figured they would've canned you before the-" He stops as he sees you approaching. "Heya, John! Come check this joker out." Grabbing at the man's shoulders, Sam pulled him in to introduce him. "Victor Forge, John Devin, John Devin, Victor Forge."

"Charmed!" Victor Forge is a portly, but sharply dressed man. He strikes you as typical of the 'jolly old man' type - broad smile, bright cheery eyes behind a pair of spectacles, and a constant grin on his face. Yet as you move to pull away from shaking his hand-

-the hand not only refuses to release its grip, it all but pops out of his wrist!

You just blink, holding the hand up as you look at it calmly. "...uh." The hand, on closer inspection, seems made out of what feels like a strange mix between plastic and metal, yet it feels reassuringly solid. The wrist at the end, however, seems to be constantly in flux, almost like pixels constantly fading in and out of visual range. A moment later, the whole hand disappears, only to reappear on Victor's previously disattached wrist.

"Oh, you're no fun!" Yet Victor is still chortling heartily, even as his other hand is already passing credit bills into Sam's extended hand. "That party trick usually gets a stronger reaction out of people!"

"He's used to it," Sam says. Well, he's not wrong, you kind of are.

"I take it these are the nanites at work?" you ask.

"Very, very, very tiny version of it," Victor confirms, holding his fingers slightly apart from one another for emphasis. "This is a very limited version of the Polymorph Nanites." He holds out his hand again, and only now do you realize that he seems to have to think about it before the hand begins to move. It grips, then releases slowly as he twists it about. "It's about what you expect - enough small machines are pre-fed materials, and are pre-programmed into specific functions. Fairly energy intensive, and both inflexible and the most flexible thing you'll ever find. I had hoped to market it, but..."

"Incident. Got it." By now, you're realizing this is just a common trend, and you just roll with it. "But this seems really solid, and I know a few engineering officers that would've killed to have something like this on demand."

"There's the rub, isn't it?" Victor simply shrugs and spreads his arms apologetically. "There's also practical limitations I have. Once you have it all set up, it's fairly plug and play. But it's really energy intensive, both for setup, and for actual use." To demonstrate, he pulls up his sleeve, and reveals a somewhat bulky battery strapped to his forearm. He flicks it off, and the nanites all disperse, leaving a clawed prosthetic arm in its place. "It also requires a solid frame to build a skeleton off of."

"How strong is it?"

"How strong do you want it to be?" he counters. "And how much energy are you willing to put into it?"

You pause, thinking that over. "Giant robot-grade limbs?"you ask. "Changing components? Engine parts, moving pieces?"

"Entirely possible. But also probably enough to suck up a years' worth of power for a rural town." He holds up a clawed finger. "Like I said, though, it's really durable and tough. If you're willing to put in the investment for it, you could probably create preprogrammed setups for regenerating hull strength. Actual regeneration would depend on how much power is available, mind - and I'd love to experiment with more powerful computer systems to see if more complex formations could be possible."

"So long as you're not going to prank the faculty staff again," Sam jabs at him.

"Lies and slander, good sir!" All seriousness fades away as Victor turns towards Sam in faux indignation. "I have a rock solid alibi for that incident, and they can never prove that I preprogammed that many drones to specifically play-!"

You simply back away while the conversation picks up again before you can listen to something possibly incriminating, and you just shake your head towards Anna as she raises her eyebrows. No you don't want to know.

- Existing (but small) prototype)
- Power intensive, but potentially very versatile and tough with regeneration
- Can assume multiple shapes, but power intensive
- Utility for Ground Pound: would be of significant interest, super durable and tough materials for frontline use

You have some time after everything calms down. The impromptu party at least was fun, but now you have to knuckle down and figure out what your final decision would be. You can probably get away with poaching one or two of the experts, but you owe Lenora Jenkins the unorthodox expertise she needs to make her brawler Super Robot a success.

So, what will it be?

@Basarin given how Fulgur Particles gave people nightmares and our head researcher specializes in psychic things, can we offer assistance if we forward the Fulgur particle guy to Ground Pound. I figure Sam would be one of the best for figuring out how to block mental stuff.

Here I'm really tempted to give Ground Pound the Fulgur Particles since they need the power source and keep the rest. Though problem with that of course is then we'll need to look into power sources.

I'm thinking we keep the Faedium, we can use that for Funnels and better energy weapons probably. We give Ground Pound the Fulgur particles, which will give them power, and also give them reconstructive nanites because we don't want the possibly dangerous Fulgur particle generators to get damaged.

To pair with Captainwolf's question, @Basarin if we forward the reconstructive nanites to Ground Pound, I'm assuming that we can express interest in getting access to the results of their research? Probably as part of a tech-trade whilst sharing ours as I'd think they would have interest in the psytech we're developing at the least in order to help them poke at the nightmares caused by the Fulgar Particles.

Let Ground Pound play around with the Polymorph nanites whilst they also get the massive power production via nightmare-producing dimensional breaches. Meanwhile once we've worked out our own massive power source, quite possibly thanks to the synergies Faedium hints at, we can look into requesting access to their develops in the nanites for our own custom/parallel/divergent development.

Fair enough but I actually want to keep the nanites guy with us I would love to see what we can do with that stuff and K-scale!

Am I the only one concerned with what happens when the Nightmare dimension have demons in them and they possess the Nanites which will have near infinite power from the Hell dimension to be virtually indestructible and constantly regenerating?

Demonic Psychic Grey Goo with infinite power...

I feel like Faedium complements our tech tree while Fulgur and Nanites just work parallel to what we already have.

Also both Fulgur Particles and the Polymorph Nanites give off Getter Robo vibes and I kinda don't want that on us.

@Pyro Hawk It will be possible to offer a tech swap, but that won't be for quite a few turns yet. Lenora plays by similar rules to when you started, keep in mind, so she needs time to get results to trade.

Lea: "So old man. You are absolutely sure the demons have to go through us?"
Theodore: "As long as nobody pokes and opens wide some dimensional tears leading to the lower layers of hell yes. But who is stupid enough to keep poking at the nightmares of humanity?"
Gaius: *kaiju noises*
Lea: "yeah you're right we should prep for demons on the surface"

Probably not a thing/canon but it would be a fun background bleedover

But is it possible to do an 'early' tech swap where we say, offer them what we have with psytech now and until the full trade, meanwhile we get access to their developments when they finish for the nanites? Basically a 'we think you'd do better with the nanites but damn are we curious what they could offer us. Oh, and we're interested in just what you might find out in regards to psychic effects with those nightmares. If you decide to use it elsewhere, go for it.'

Seems pretty straightforward, we get Faedium which looks to have a lot of Synergies with what we've got and Ground Pound gets a new Power Source and some really nice options from those nanites.

Ironically we can't really make use of the Nanites without taking Fulgur Particles anyway since we're still running on mostly conventional power.

Edit:
@Shaper47
I think that option is a terrible idea as the entire reason we brought the scientists here was to get Operation Ground Pound some help. Keeping everything is just asking for trouble down the road, let's be nice and share the super science.
