Nobody break that tie!As a note for those who might be interested in breaking a tie, Galenstra is currently tied with Karak Azul architects for fifth place.
They're both at 69 votes. Nice.
Things rarely stay nice for long.
The only thing it achieves is slowing down the updates!Let's not do the thing where people edit their votes to try to maintain an artificial tie.
I think it could be the case that Yin and Yang could be their own thing. On the FAQ they note 'Ranged and melee units receive buffs when in close proximity, their power boosted as the Yin and Yang that runs through every inhabitant of the empire works in concert.'There's some old lore that says that Yin and Yang were their names for High Magic and Dark Magic and that they considered both sacred, but they might not be using that.
There's already a group of people who have an energy field that runs through every single one of them that the casters can harness for spellcasting.I think it could be the case that Yin and Yang could be their own thing. Specifically that Yin and Yang seem to run through every inhabitant of the Empire is interesting, assuming this isn't a non-literal gameplay rule only thing.
First thing that came to mind is actually your interpretation of the protection of Valaya. Maybe Yin and Yang are the blessings of the Moon Empress and Dragon Emperor respectively? Even more speculative, but they could even have similar purpose, the Yin blessing reflecting (Moon Goddess) corrupting energies and Yang energy burning the remainder, working in concert as would be expected from Yin Yang energies to protect the inhabitants of the Empire from corruption?
Plus an extra few bonuses, as these energies seem relevant for even basic army units. All ties quite well into the harmony themes Grand Cathay apparently has, and also explains why only Dragon Blooded Sorcerers can make significant use of the stuff, with them being direct relatives to the energies origins instead of just being granted blessings.
How was it you describe in quest again? "High magic" for them was both Qaysh and Dhar, while the Winds were Dark? Or something? I can't remember. There's some old lore that says that Yin and Yang were their names for High Magic and Dark Magic and that they considered both sacred, but they might not be using that.
Quash and Dhar were divine magic for them, whereas wind magic and priestly lores were arcane.[X] The Karak Azul Architects, to get involved in the design of your Library in detail.
I kinda wanted this anyways and have just been lazy about my vote.

As Johann said:How was it you describe in quest again? "High magic" for them was both Qaysh and Dhar, while the Winds were Dark? Or something? I can't remember.
Divine and Arcane are - by them - divided differently. They consider High Magic and Dark Magic to be Divine, and other magics to be Arcane.
Weird how the winds of magic seems to only cover about 1/4 of the actual magic going on. Elementalism, ying/yang, waaagh, divine casting, anything I'm missing?
Runecraft maybe? They presumably eat the winds as fuel based on the AV experiments with Thorek but I don't know if they are wind magic in the normal sense.Weird how the winds of magic seems to only cover about 1/4 of the actual magic going on. Well the Winds are specifically Aether stuff transformed in a certain way to not harm reality. It stands to reason you can use Aether and its power in all other kinds of way and do all manners of things with it.Weird how the winds of magic seems to only cover about 1/4 of the actual magic going on.

As far as I understand, at least in part intention was to render raw Aether spilling into the world, in case such spilling was to occur, as harmless as possible:Well I would not say the winds do not harm reality. As seen in the wastes a high enough density of Wind can have external effects.
But yeah, not completely harmless in the end. But still, even if the transformation is not to render the Aether harmless, the Winds are still Aether transformed in a specific way and locked, so to speak, in a specific form. So Aether not transformed in such a way can be used in ways the Winds can't, e.g. with divine casting, or with Waaagh! soul-casting.The great machines begin to fail and the energies they were supposed to harness began to pour into the world, and the Ruinous Powers began to mould those energies - but the machines were more clever than they expected, as most of the energies were transformed by their passage into the world into forms that followed their own natures, rather than the orders of the Ruinous Powers.
True Dhar and necromancy are both forms of wind magic. Unusual or unnatural forms perhaps, but still wind magic.
Geomancy just seems to be magic that involves geography or architecture. Bel-Korhadris is described as a geomancer when Teclis thinks about the defenses of the White Tower in Sword of Caledor. The Geomantic Web is possibly different from Wind Magic, but might not be. It's never really described in huge detail AFAIK.Also, let's not forget geomancy of the Lizardmen as well, but that seems a lot harder to actually observe and determine the exact mechanisms for it.
