'So you're saying That the Amber's will never make me take another math test again?'
'So you're telling me, a shallyan, that the Jades/light will actually let me heal people?'
'If I join the celestial, I could make literal market predictions?'

My point? I thank The focus on the gold collage is ignoring that we don't actually know the kid enough to know what group would actually be attractive to her.

Like, Whilhama is profit-oriented, but if Eike thinks this might be a chance to do something closer to what she wants (Shallyan) or to get away from the tests and proving herself... well.

Jades only get healing that works on other people as Battle Magic. Also, I think Eike would be more interested as a Shallyan about the disease-preventing fires that Light Wizards can create as a Journeyman spell, and work as long as they have fuel to burn.

And yet, as votes stands, the Gold College is possibly going to creep into Mathilde's recommendations, it's got a very strong lead over Jade, and I'm curious to know why.

People are already profiling Eike in this thread, and I suspect it's going to creep into how Mathilde sees Eike. The discourse about Eike and how most of her life has been built on tests, and the possibility Eike thought she was being tested throughout this visit? I suspect if there is any in-narrative truth to this, Mathilde would pick this up. The possibility Eike fears abandonment if she fails? I suspect this hypothesis would be in Mathilde's mind as something to investigate, whatever her recommendations is. It won't surprise me if there's truth to this analysis, it's definitely going to color Eike's choices, and I think as it stands, Mathilde is likely to make it clear to Eike that should she choose Grey, Mathilde would take her in, in some fashion. This definitely will count for something, if the fear of abandonment is true.

Of course, you could say stop profiling Eike, we have too little data right now, but I suspect we do have enough hints to form a hypothesis that may or may not be disproven if Mathilde further interacts with Eike - and I suspect Kazrik and Panoramia each have their own read on Eike, which may or may not sync with either the thread's or Mathilde's own readings. Eike has a personality, and we do have some pieces of the puzzle, and at stake in this debate is in part this incomplete profile, which nevertheless is present from clues in the narrative, and influential. You are making an argument for uncertainty, but I don't think Eike is necessarily a complete black box, there's been quite a few threads emerging.

On the other hand, note how warmly Kazrik took Eike in for a few days, to experience life within the structures of a Dawi Clan-hall. I suspect this leaves a very, very deep impact on Eike, considering her family history - it might well be one of the best times in her life so far. The Communitarian nature of Dawi and I suspect Halfling society is very, very striking. It's also quite suggestive that Eike made such a favorable impression in her time with Kazrik, and I'm now very, very interested to find out Kazrik's assessment of Eike. I think it's going to be eye opening.

We've already told Panoramia that Eike has Magesight, and I suspect if we tell Panoramia the votes as it stands regarding our response, including the problem that Eike doesn't remotely have the information right now to make a meaningful decision about the Orders (which we should, assume basic, competency, Mathilde is well aware of), it won't surprise me she'd likely frame any answers to questions Eike has about the Jades a certain way.

Finally, I need to caution - most of us see Eike as a child. Mathilde has decided to treat Eike like an adult. I suspect this divergence in perception will lead to some surprising outcomes for much of the thread. In the model of Eike as a child, I doubt Mathilde would break the news to Eike before talking to Wilhemina, but if Mathilde treats Eike as an adult, she might well, given the rationales behind of letting Eike decide, break the news to Eike before the talk with Wilhemina. Especially if the Gold College is on the table.

5. Fundamental to the Gold mindset is one governed by reason and rationality.

And this is where I think that pushing gold is more a solution to Wilhelmina's needs than Eike's. Like, if we view her as a blank slate to be scribed on this is how she would be most useful to the EIC, but it really doesn't fit her character that I've seen, beyond the glimpses we got of it on her after lessons.

So I think she'd do it and be good at it, but it doesn't feel like her niche to me. Personally, I agree that jade is probably the one she would go for given a baggage-free choice, but there's not really such a thing.

So apprentice get.

Jades only get healing that works on other people as Battle Magic. Also, I think Eike would be more interested as a Shallyan about the disease-preventing fires that Light Wizards can create as a Journeyman spell, and work as long as they have fuel to burn.

Does anyone know why this is? It seems super odd to me. The wind of life and growth NOT having healing at lower levels, while the wind of philosophy and demon-hurting does?

Healing is a process of regrowth, not caring out the demons of injury.

I figured that this would be an excellent opportunity to do some re-flavoring of some existing cards, the same way that the godzilla promo cards worked. Still, I tried to keep my card selection on-theme regardless, which led me to start with a Yuriko shell that seemed usable, and then modify it to work fully on-theme. I did a lot of digging around through Dimir cards, the Innistrad blocs, and a bunch of older sets to find things with the appropriate flavor.

Some highlights:
- There are very few dogs or wolves in blue/black that fit the flavor profile for Wolf. Luckily Modern Horizons 2 saved my bacon with the adorable Floodhound.
- Grimoire of the Dead and Reanimate were insta-pick inclusions in honor of @Omegahugger .
- I'm very happy with how Hero's Blade simulates Branulhune - most equipment doesn't play well with Mathilde/Yuriko constantly jumping in and out of the battlefield, but Branulhune/Hero's Blade instantly teleports to her side.
- I went heavy with the counterspells, since Mathilde does very well on that front.
- I considered re-flavoring some of the extra turn spells into the Mystifying Miasma or Rite of Way, but wasn't sure which would fit best.
- Top three flavor inclusions: Shadow Rift, Feral Shadow, Temple of Deceit.

- I considered re-flavoring some of the extra turn spells into the Mystifying Miasma or Rite of Way, but wasn't sure which would fit best.
Mystifying Miasma could be Beyeen Veil? -X/-0 effects are often flavored as confusion (c.f. Befuddle and Bewilder), and Beyeen Veil is fog and mist. Downsize/Hampering Snare/Turn the Tide/Uncomfortable Chill are other cards that do the same thing (AoE -X/-0) but are less good flavorwise IMO.

Throat Slitter for Eshin-friend delights me on every level. Well-done, this made me wish I still played Magic in paper.

[X] Let Eike decide

This is the most important thing to me, I think: Emphasize to Eike that no matter what we recommend otherwise, this is her decision and she shouldn't feel pigeonholed by our views. That being said

[X] Wizard

She now has magic powers at her fingertips, and most people probably couldn't resist poking at it. Becoming a Wizard would allow her to keep poking at it.

[X] Clergy

On the other hand, she already seems to be a pretty devout Shallyan, and utilizing her magic to support her goddess of choice might be more interesting to her.

[X] - Let Eike decide

Again, if Eike decides to go be a wizard, we can recommend what colleges we think suit her, but in the end she needs to make her own decision. That being said

[X] - The Grey Order

We get to be her mentor!

[X] - The Order of Life
[X] - The Order of Light

Or these two orders, which have the spellset to support her Shallyan leanings

I realize there isn't much call for the clergy, but just as a note that just occurred to me on the matter on why we might want to avoid it. If we are right about this it would cause a massive theological upheaval. The curse of magic and the blessing of the gods are one... that is not something any faithful person would take lying down. Of course we would not have to make it public, but the trouble is that any secret keeping would have to include the eleven year old girl, since it would be a complete 180 for Wilhelmina to just sent her to the priesthood.

So just to summarize, the secret that could cause massive social and religious upheaval would be trusted to a child. Yeah I think we are better off just making her a wizard.

That's overly dramatic. The idea come from Teclis, and so it's been around for 150 years. I'm pretty sure someone tried to test it and then kept quiet. And yes, Eike is young, but I do think she can keep her mouth. Plus, there's no mass media to spread secrets far and wide before someone can stop it. And anyway, who would believe an 11 year old over their religious dogma?

Like, the conspiracy of silence is a thing. I think this would be much easier.

It's not a secret at all though. It's just a crackpot theory nobody outside the Colleges seems to (publicly) believe or tolerate, and even within the Colleges it's far from agreed upon.
