Border Princess is also good, but it seems like something we also could do at any time similar to the Elf adventure vacation.
I'm not so sure about that. Barak Varr has declared that it wants Mad Dog Pass secured, and will back a trustworthy human candidate for princedom. We've been named their first pick candidate, but if we don't take it up, Barak Varr will just back someone else, possibly one of the established Princes.

[*] Loremaster-at-Large of Karak Eight Peaks
A good expansion on what we've already got going on. Probably the best option for Eight Peaks itself.
[*] The Waystone Project
For learning more of the deep lore and maybe ending the feud between Eight Peaks and the High King.
[*] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland
To finish what we started.
[*] Spymaster of Wissenland
To continue our war against the underworld and expand the East Empire Company.
[*] Ambassador-at-Large to the Karaz Ankor
A good option to work on unifying the Karaz and Empire, balances our alliegence to both well. Probably the place we can do the most good work for the Dwarves.
[*] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred
The depths of Imperial Politics, but similar to Karaz Ambassador, probably the place we can do the most good work for the Humans.
Heads up, you need Xs in there. * will not be counted by the tally program.

An argument for:
[] Spymaster of Wissenland

Why is it a great next step?

1) It's preventing fallout from something Mathilde caused.

Mathilde gave the empire information about the Skaven civil war. That information led imperial forces to dive into UnderNuln - unfortunately those forces were too late, and were easily repelled.

Now the Skaven in that region are forced to acknowledge that the Conspiracy of Silence is no longer working for them - which means they no longer need to pretend non-existence. So they're getting more active, and may even be trying to unify enough to invade the overcity.

If Mathilde doesn't get involved and Nuln falls she'll have to deal with the fact that was a result of her actions. That will weigh heavily.
Speaking as someone who likes the spy master option a lot, I disagree with this strongly. Mathilde passed on the information in good faith, it proved accurate, and other locations made good and effective use of it. That it backfired in Nuln is down to Skaven being nasty enemies, the elector count being too touchy to accept help, and a hit of bad luck. Mathilde holds some responsibility, yes, but overall it's a minor part- aside from anything else, remember that she wasn't even the one who made the call to poke the rats.

She's not at fault, but it remains something she caused: just as she caused the shooting of Stirland's Martial Advisor despite only providing the information that he had previously been fired for embezzling. But this time it's on a much larger scale, and with most of those who might suffer for it being innocents caught in the crossfire rather than it being limited to a traitor.

I certainly wouldn't blame her for the backfire, but I still feel like following up and making sure that the end result of her actions is positive is very appropriate, and that "a city fell because information you gave was mishandled" would weigh on her were it to happen - especially after she's been requested to come and help.

I'd find that more convincing if Mathilde had shown any sort of ongoing concern over the situation and how things turned out. But mainly, I find this way of thinking robs other characters of too much agency- her involvement is too many steps removed from the projected final consequence (Nuln falls) for it to be reasonable to consider her the cause, especially when other parties had a much bigger hand in things.

Now to be clear, this isn't me saying I don't think we should involve ourselves with Wissenland, or that I don't think Mathilde would be a near-ideal candidate to help. Because I do think both of those things, and spymaster is currently sitting solidly as my non-waystones preference for our next job. I just don't find this reason specifically convincing.

I wouldn't be surprised if we found a way to build new Waystones as a stretch goal but I would be surprised if they were anywhere near as good as Golden Age ones. Golden Age Waystones were made with Golden Age Runecraft and High Elf magic, modern Waystones would be made with modern Runecraft and Human magic and I expect it would suffer a corresponding drop in coverage area and thoroughput. If Golden Age Waystones are Teslas then whatever we produce would be closer to an Elektrowagen. Essentially possible, yes, practical, probably not.

See, the good thing about an Abel dedicated to killing us is that he's an Abel who is present enough to do so.

Unlike our current Abel.
Thing I don't get is- how is a universe in which they're (likely both) wretchedly miserable preferable to this one? And why would you possibly wish this suffering on Abel? You know, I hope, he would pick staying dead a thousand times over coming back as undead.

Though i'm not on the waystone bandwagon, if that's a possibility I imagine it may work along the lines of computers. I.e the elder races at their heights can build I-phones which can fit into smallish menhirs. Whereas the colleges have to build huge inefficient vacuum tube style supercomputers. Where you have to build them in a mountain to get the same effect as the ancients did.

(Making the mountain castle drakenhof sits on a massive waystone that actively drains dhar would be deliciously ironic)

I also think getting human waystone making to that level would be one (of many) possible endpoints where we could call it quits and move on. After we have working prototypes it becomes a matter of endless small refinements which are probably uninteresting from a quest perspective, but is something that the colleges as a whole are kind of built for.

If you don't want everyone to know about something, then the thing to do is to avoid choosing the 'make everyone know about this' setting.
I know it's not possible to switch Coin bonuses midturn but is it possible to cut the bonus short and replace it with nothing, such as if we find ourselves needing to do something sneaky while the Coin is on Protector?

@storyspoiler is a long-time partner of mine to whom I introduced this story in 2019. This vote finally dragged her out of the woodwork, because she wanted to register support for going on cool adventures and kicking monster butt.

I bring this up because dammit I deserve credit for helping someone vote despite their opposition to my preferences!

Welcome to the party storyspoiler!

(Exits are to your left, but are impeded by various shark tanks. You can get past easily enough.. for now, if you still want to escape, but you better watch out when they get their laser operation certification!

because unlike sharks, lasers can pass through glass! And lasers can cause serious eye damage!)

[X] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland
[X] Count of Sylvania
[X] The Waystone Project
[X] Spymaster of Wissenland
[X] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred

[X] Loremaster-at-Large of Karak Eight Peaks
It is a way of keeping a finger on the pulse of the ongoing dwarven internal issues.

[X] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland
Not just a return to roots, but perhaps an opportunity to take a look at an old mystery box (that one giant Tomb Complex in the Haunted Hills).

[X] Spymaster of Wissenland
A different return to roots that actually takes to a new place.

[X] Border Princess of the Howling River
Considering that there are others who are going to try to do something about this in order to avoid an effective dwarven monopoly over the east-west trade, this is a use it or lose it situation.

[X] Nagarythe
Not a popular option, but if we are really thinking Waystone-related thoughts, it may be a good idea to use our opportunity to make a brief trip to Elflantis.
