[X] Border Princess of the Howling River

This is the one I'm most interested in personally. Partially because Princess Lady Magister Thane Dame Weber, partially because seeing Mathilde step into the staring role rather then being a hyper-competent subordinate, and partially because it's really close to K8P and allows for continuity there while also introducing new things and being a breath of fresh air in general. Also we can invite Egrimm, he's too much fun and also we should keep him where we can see him.

[X] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland
[X] Count of Sylvania

Less fun then border princess but is very similar in execution.

[X] Governor-General of Swamp Town

I really want to know what the deal with this one is. I'm unlikely to actually push for it winning the final vote though unless something drastic changes, it's too far away. This is purely a curiosity pick.

[X] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred
[X] Ranaldian High Priest of Kislev

Other interesting things.

[ ] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland/ [ ] Count of Sylvania
Those are for me the boring options, now you never know, for all I know if we took one of those options we could end up in a situation where we have a shot at taking down Neferatan. Now I have no doubt that even the most boring administrative chapter would be awesome under the metaphorical feather of BoneyM, I just think there are other places where our talents are better suited.
guys, its not a Stweadship job.

its a martial job, or maybe a martial/stewardship/intrigue hybrid: we are going to be there to fight the undead necromancer rebellions (and greedy normals that dont like taxs in gold instead of pesenit blood ) and counter invasions from the vampire counts. and stoping all their plots.

and when it comes to fighting what the vampires can throw out there:

Martial:23
Learning: 28
Intrigue: 25

Strategy - Undead: You know the strategies of the living dead. +5 to command and planning rolls while fighting or leading Undead armies.
Tactics - Undead: You know the tactics of the living dead. +5 to command and reading the battlefield while fighting or leading Undead units.
Master Swordswoman: You have blended sword techniques from the Empire and the Karaz Ankor into a style entirely your own, and tested it - and yourself - in battle. +2 Martial, +10 martial when fighting against enraged or unthinking opponents, or when holding a physical choke-point such as a doorway or tunnel.

Advanced Assassination: You know how to end a variety of forms of life with a single stab. +2 Intrigue
Advanced Infiltration: It takes significant effort to make it even slightly difficult for you to enter somewhere. +3 Intrigue
Master Infiltration (1/4)
Interrogation: You know how to extract information from those that don't wish to give it. +1 Intrigue
Advanced Interrogation (1/3)

Advanced Morrite Lore: You know the secrets no Priest of Morr should have ever put to paper. +1 Learning
Undead Lore: Working in Stirland under the Witch Hunter Abelhelm van Hal gave you many opportunities to learn to study the eternal enemy of Stirland: the restless dead. +1 Learning
Von Carstein Lore: You have received a glimpse into the founder of the bloodline long before he took up the name of von Carstein.

Necromantic Insight: +20 to dispel and induce miscasts against Necromancy. Able to identify (and cast) the spells of Necromancy.
Dhar diagnosis: You know how to spot Dhar poisoning, gauge its severity, and temporarily reduce the severity of some of its symptoms.
First Secret of Dhar: Dhar is inherently unstable, everyone knows that. What they don't know is how to turn Dhar against itself. You do. And now you'll never not know it.
Second Secret of Dhar: Dhar could be made more unstable. A tiny nudge in just the right way and Dhar unravels in just the right way to unravel more Dhar, and so on until nothing remains.

we are unequal in fighting the vampire's factions when it comes to the people that could get the job in the empire.

it's to the point that if you told me that the Swamp town invitation was acatlly a vampire plot to get us to far away to help again, I would believe it.

People Mandred is at least five years old and very much not a toddler. This is elementary school age a ripe age to be studying now.

So we will be teaching him how to count apples and how to spell instead of potty train.

Hyperbole aside five years old may not be as boring as a literal toddler, but they are still not the sort of people you explain the complexities of politics or the mysteries of the universe to.

[x] Nagarythe

I'm afraid Nagarythe isn't a valid vote option at this time.
Some of the possibilities are marked [-]. This signifies there's not really anything to investigate, but they're still listed here for reference purposes. You can still vote for them if you really want to and if someone votes for them by accident, it's not a problem.

For the record, since I've seen some people talk about Mandred as though he's still in nappies: he's five at the moment. He was born in the first half of 2481, and we are just now wrapping up the first half of 2486.

Boney said this on the subject:

I'd prefer to be a Count of Sylvania rather than the Markgraf - being an advisor and helper to the Markgraf means we can focus on our areas of competence instead of having to do all the nitty-gritty minutia, and will leave us more free time for our own research. Pull an Elspeth, basically.
I don't think the Count role would be an advisor to the Markgraf, it would still be under Roswita directly:
So if we take one of the heritable titles, would we be under the authority of who ever the Markgraf is? (assuming a Markgraf is chosen).
No, you would be directly below the Elector Countess, but the Markgraf would have the responsibility to help you however possible in turning your citizens into safe and productive taxpayers.
Huh. Is that a special privilege just for Mathilde or will the Markgraf not have liege or viceroyal powers over the hereditary titles in general? That would make me a bit less interested in that particular job.
'Technically I need to go ask the Elector Countess if I can whap you for being obstructionist but if you make me do that she'll let me do it extra hard to get the message across and so she doesn't have to come back' is a very effective stick that is very unlikely to be used on Mathilde.
So if continuing the advisor game is your justification, I think you should reconsider.

I mean, the position is pretty clearly just a cover. Even if we're the Tutor, we'll simply be the Tutor in charge of supervising and vetting the actual specialized tutors once he grows up - and I imagine the Empress handles the actual child tutoring. There's no way @BoneyM gave us this option just to make us a babysitter for 10 years lol.

Edit: Taking Count of Sylvania instead of Margraf of Sylvania is pretty much us giving up wider authority and autonomy across all Sylvania (convenient for shenanigans) for an inheritable title over an impoverished and mostly depopulated patch of land that'll take decades to become prosperous. It's also harder to hand off the territory when we get bored and want to go exploring.

We'd definitely be teaching him politics and likely about the Karaz Ankor (Probably one of the Empire's most important foreign relations) within seven years time though, rather than being his nanny. Chances are, we'd have years to sharpen certain skills Mathile lacks - the art of pedagogy, rectify her low diplomacy, build up further knowledge about Imperial internal politics after many years out of the Empire, and make connections with the cults. I suspect the bodyguard job is likely more prominent earlier on too. I doubt we'd be his only tutor either.

The chance to shape the growth of the potential Future Emperor I suspect is why there are alot of votes for this.

Eh, even if we're not "officially" on the Markgraf's council, we'll still keep doing enthusiastic walks through the rest of Sylvania to help calm it down given the slightest opportunity, so I don't see it as much different from what I was envisioning.

Absolutely not. He's the best candidate for future Emperor. He'll be educated by specialized tutors in every single subject. I suspect we'll be supervising and vetting those than actually teaching him anything. Except maybe about Ranald in concert with the Empress.

Seven years is 14 turns. Consider the span of real life time that has past in the last 14 turns of this quest. Turn 19 is titled The Rebirth of Karak Eight Peaks for reference. 14 turns is our entire carrier in Belegar's service.

Not exactly. If there's a particular mystery we want to follow up on (skaven or just a particular waystone - it'd be easier if we were the Markgraf rather than having to negotiate with the Count the land belongs to as a nominal equal).

Why not vote for Markgraf then, that's not inheritable so no pressure for heirmaking.

Gonna edit it in a moment.

As for Marksgraf... Honestly, it's because it covers an entire rogue province, which we will have to pacify, fix and then fashion into a proper, loyal and tax-paying one. That seems like a lot of work, and most of it will probably be a standard Crusader Kings kind of deal, with economy and politics, court intrigue and occassionally responding to a military threat, and province-wide improvements to increase numbers by a fraction- fraction- fraction- FrACtION--

My apologies. I lost my cool there for a moment. Ever since Shepard Quest, I've been traumatized and get debilitating PTSD flashbacks whenever a similar transition seems to be taking place.
