Blood, Sweat, and Tears (WH40k Design Bureau)

True. And of course what we research will also depend on how many slots we get the coming turn which could result in prioritization.

Presuming that we have four slots, like normal, in the next design phase and nothing goes outrageously wrong in the strat results phase, I'm probably going to be supporting something along the lines of a second go at the lightning lance, the plasma macrocannon shells (Shells before a new cannon for ease of refit), the Logis Stacks bridge add on I've suggested before, and I'm kinda thinking it might be time to try for a new Warp drive.

Whether or not that wins, however, my goals for the construction phase will be to, beside starting the Drydocks, begin construction of enough dedicated combat craft as to be able to move the AMMs completely out, either for refit or for forming a new squadron. Probably another Indomitable for the 2nd Naval Squadron and then a pair of Spatha class ships with the Imperial Macrocannons (one each) for the 3rd Squadron if I write the plan. After that will depend on how much Industry we have left, as if possible I'd like to take the three AMMs from the two squadrons and convert them all to carriers which can then be used to form the First Escort Carrier Squadron, and we might well want to put a fixed defense or two on any new planet we now have to protect. Either way, any money left over would be used to refit ships with the Plasma shells.

I am aware that doesn't include any lance using craft, but at this point I really want to fill out our navy with proper ships, as in my opinion we're going past the point where an 'almost proper navy' made 50% of AMMs is going to be usable any more, very soon.

  • [X] Plan: Access & Asset Denial
-[X] Send North: 1st Naval Squadron + 1st Torpedo Squadron + 1st Auxiliary Squadron (Aggressive Engagement)
--[X] Homna String Defense League (20LY): A defensive pact once stood among these worlds. Now it is broken between differing interests, from Traitor splinter forces to the leftovers of the repulsed WAAAGH!! Jawbreaka. [Ongoing Campaign] [Forces Present: 6th Crusade Infantry Army & 1st Calavar Infantry Army] [Dark Star forces present, including superheavy armor]
-[X] Send South: 2nd Naval Squadron + 2nd Torpedo Squadron + 1st Support Squadron + 2nd & 3rd Calavar Infantry Armies (Retrieve the Shipyard Facility, try to recover any surviving civilians on site)
--[X] Civilized World Allient (40LY): Fallen to the perfidious greenskins Allient now provides for the raiding fleets sent out by it's barbarous overlords with it's maintenance platform of similar design to Calavar's. Defenses are judged to be "Light" and increasing slowly, but with mobile elements returning from attacks at unpredictable intervals. [Held by WAAAGH!! Gunbreaka]
-[X] Send West: 3rd Patrol Squadron + 8th Crusade Guard Infantry Army (Garrison)
--[X] Bailafax (20LY): Once conquered and once again besieged, Bailafax resolutely stands in defiance of the tide of frothing madmen. With the addition of Calavan granted weapons and fortresses, may she never falter in her vigil. [Owned by Calavar, provides 5M] [Forces Present: The Ashen Legion]
-[X] Send North: 3rd Naval Squadron + 1st Calavar Armoured Army (Aid the Sororitas in driving out the Orks)
--[X] Shrine World Lativa: Remembered as the first world colonized by Imperial citizens in the region this is the center of worship for the southern half of the Subsector. It's Adeptus Sororitas have held back any Ork forces that made landfall but all worlds nearby have been overrun by leaderless Ork hordes. Should a new Warboss arise... [Independent]

-[X] Send North: 2nd Naval Squadron + 1st Torpedo Squadron + 1st Calavar Infantry Army + 6th Crusade Infantry Army (Aggressive Engagement, prevent orks from consolidating or re-consolidating in the area, and politely compete with competition for access to resources, manpower, and manufacturing from these worlds.)

--[X]Khornate Cult (40LY): Squatting among the wreckage of what was once a prosperous if small Hive World these Traitors seem to be more interested in hunting down the remaining civilians and soldiery than offensive actions beyond their nominal space. Serves as a source of manpower for the Khornates as a whole. Defenses are judged to be "Light". [Traitor]
-[X] Send North: 3rd Naval Squadron + 1st Auxiliary Squadron + 7th Crusade Guard Infantry Army + 8th Crusade Guard Infantry Army (Be the cavalry, shoot orks in the face, shoot potential ork warbosses in the face, liberate worlds as possible, make contact with the sisters of battle and seek to convince them of the righteousness of the crusade.)

Not that I'm complaining, but is there a particular reason you decided to break the tie for my plan?
Nailing the Khornate Cult. As stated the place serves as a source of manpower for them.

And since they're Khornates; they go through people pretty quickly. Cut them off from a nearby source of replacements, and they start having logistical issues which should allow us to make more gains/shore things up in that direction.

Fair enough. The whole 'let us go murder all the civies' cult has been on my list of 'like to hit' for a while, honestly. And given that...
-Khornate Cult (20LY): Only newly come into their madness these Traitors retain most of their discipline and technical skill even as they war against all near them. Defenses are judged to be "Light" with notable numbers of converted civilian shipping lead by a pair of ex-Imperial Navy escorts, a Claymore and a Sword. Under attack by WAAAGH!! Legcutta. [Traitor]
Their local friends with the proper shooty ships are under attack by orks I'm hoping we manage to take the world.

I do wish we could stick our ore into the ork/chaos fight, but we really can't afford/are realistically able to do so currently. Sadly.

When it comes to Chaos and the Orks (or other 40k factions) getting distracted by getting into protracted fights with each other I have a policy.

It allows us to sneak around the edges to yank the people we want to save out of the fire before shanking the two fight-happy louts in the kidneys. Or calling down an artillery barrage; whichever is best for the situation.

Oh, and something of a request (that I can pay for with MC for next turn if I like an entry enough to use it...) what kind of ideas do people have for the four or five worlds near Calavar? Names, culture, geography if you want although it likely won't come up, that sort of stuff.

Any limitations? Beucase otherwise I'd use the planet generator on 1d4chan (search 1d4 planet generator) and potentialy the system generator as a base and then extrapolate.

No powerful worlds like Hives or Forges. No archaeotech.

Basically think "normal", and without the means to do much alone. Planetary manufacturing is fine within reason, given how much they provide to your budget.
OK, I'll write up some after work tomorrow and PM you the ideas.

Also 'normal'? Does such an existence (as we understand it) even exist in 40k? :V

Yes, actually. Mostly. Take this Subsector for instance where nothing really major happened basically ever.
So we'd have Civilized, Mining, Agri, Feral/Feudal/Developing, Frontier; maybe a minor Shrine world or gas giant? Nothing to really write home about; just five more of the millions of worlds that feed the Imperium and can be forgotten about in a single ink smudge from an Administratum quill.

More or less, yes. Yet even though they are nothing, they matter to someone.

Potential Map, Turn Three
Map with ownership as of the beginning of turn 3.
A radial gradient represents an alliance.
A linear gradiant means that the place is contested.

Please do note that while the image is labeled as a map, it is merely something I made as a visual aid to see who is doing what, and where. It is not supposed to be geographically accurate.

There was also a map of turn 1 in the post #1206.

A minor ground force rework and a finalization of the cruiser rules will be in place next turn.
How expensive is a cruiser is it something near 100M or 300M?

[X] Plan Scavenging, Diplomacy, and the Cavalry
With the time left before the vote closes this is going to win, one more vote might allow DaLintyGuy to close the vote sooner.

For a very basic CL, I estimate between 50 and a 100, with the upper level being dependent on if you tack a flight deck on and pay for Lexicalum prices for IN void craft for the vastly expanded hangar bays compared to an Escort sized hull. And how many module slots are put on other than the default Prow and Broadside, if you want to stick on an extra Engine, etc.

I think not specifying a stat line but describing the best we can build locally might work better.
Lower stats are cheaper and take fewer penalties when applicable.

Plan Scavenging, Diplomacy, and the Cavalry has won. Update in progress. Salient points:
-"Orks ken always come back fer anuther go..."
-Bailafax rebuilds.
-Righteous murder with a few unwanted guests.
-Warrior nuns, oaths, and a reason.
-"Yew nevva seen a purple Ork afore? Now, wot does all uv dese 'ere buttons do..."
-Psychic army ants in space.
