Super Robot Quest

[X] Preston-class munitions. Normally reserved as air-to-ground munitions for naval bombers, Lieutenant Cahl is more than happy to have ground crews load them onto your V-33 flight for this mission.

[X] Damage Repair Crews. If you can find some of the grease monkeys that haven't evacuated yet, they may be willing to stay behind and fix up some of the damage the facilities takes. They're not Lazarus, though, so if something exploded, that's not coming back.

How much bigger is the Kaiju compared to the Beowulf?

[X] Drydock Supporting Fire

Repair is 50% chance of 2 damage only the turn damage is taken and it doesn't let you repair past 5hp increments. Meh. Best way to deal with this thing is kill it faster, not hope to tank it.

For all your comic-related comments, my reply boils down to "it's just your opinion that it's trash".

Wow, such a thoughtful response.

Comics growing more diverse is a net good, because the same thing is happening to our world. *Shrugs* Ultimately, it's all about Adapt Or Die.

There's diversity and then there's what should be recognized as "shamelessly enforced agendas", but this is not the place to discuss this, nor you would listen anyway.

It had taken him a good few years to truly understand how the machinery worked. But through trial, error, and the blood, sweat and tears of his test subjects, he had perfected the process. No matter how many of his creatures were struck down by Yukimura's lackey, Sheol had the skill, the resources, the discipline, and above all else, the untarnished conviction to create MORE creatures. DIFFERENT creatures.

So, not-Hell is using alien machinery that he found somewhere. Interesting to know, as well as confirmation as more enemy parties incoming.

A calamitous seascape of ruined hulls, enveloped by water turned grotesque colors by blood and oil with smoke and fire raging across the city in the distance beyond.

The creaking screams of metal being rent and sundered in its mighty grasp.

Mercury V lying broken and defeated beneath its feet.

I see that Sheol literally builds deep-seated rage against not-Mazinger inside the kaijus' dna, even though it will not be its primary adversary in the incoming fight.

- Stork (The Amerigo Vespucci): Perseus (Pilot: Tellison)
-- Energy Blaster (2 RP), Upgraded K-Suit (4 RP), Arc Blade (3 RP

So, was I wrong with the fact that we would be spending all of our budget to improve the Perseus for this last-minute update, thus spending 2 extra RP besides all other points?

Also, @Basarin , is the Perseus piloted by a single person? The original IFV model implied it was manipulated by a crew of people. Just to know if Tellison's bonus will apply.

"And if they don't?"

"You have a Super Robot, they don't. Their arguments don't mean a damn thing after that."

Damn right.

He paused. "...do you guys sleep at all?"

Why haven't we asked Setsuna about it so far?

"Ask that question at a later time," Galbinus grimaced. "Patch will not stop talking about physiological comparisons."

Chances are they don't though, or at least not as often.

"Locked himself up in his quarters and hasn't come out. He's been in there since word of the arriving kaiju came in this morning."

Someone is going to be demoted.

Naval Base San Diego Facilities
HP: 60
Damage Thresholds:
- For every 5 total HP taken, a facility will be destroyed.OBJECTIVE: The Facilities must survive.

Wait, does that mean that we lose the moment the HP reaches 55 or less, or do we win as long as it has above 5 hp once the battle is over?

[] Drydock Supporting Fire. The vessels are still drydocked, but Lieutenant Cahl assures you that with a bit of time and effort, she can have the munitions and missiles loaded back on with their gunnery crews. It's technically a safety violation, but an incoming kaiju makes for a very convincing exception to policy.
- Counts as a Heavy Weapon Strike at a Conventional level (2 HP). May be used every turn, but it also may draw the attention of the kaiju.

Can we decide whether to use this attack or not for alpha strike purposes? How many dice does it roll?

The Perseus is streamlined for one person, yes. This is only made possible by the MMI (even more so with the K-Suit).

Later on, you can install a new AI Personality into the Perseus; it will effectively become the Perseus, but also work in tandem with Tellison.

What I mean is this:

Every time it drops by 5 HP, SOMETHING is going to blow up. That's going to have narrative consequences to the wider quest as far as the Pacific is concerned.

So if it drops to 55 HP and lower, something blows up. (Such as, say, a large chunk of the drydock or a munitions depot). But if that's all that happens, then hey, could have been worse.

But if it drops to 50 HP, something ELSE is going to blow up. And so on. And so on. The more damage you take, the worse the situation is going to be after the fight's done.

This vote I'll leave up until the evening.

I suppose that using MMI with multiple people will require way more research then, right?

Is it possible to repurpose the AI we already have somehow? Had we known it would be stuck into a generic Jackal, many people would have chosen to install it into something else, like the Beowulf itself or the Perseus.

We're here to limit damage until we can double team it with two super robots.

His spite is to our benefit. Think of how easy it is to divert the Kaijiu with a drone designed to do nothing but look like Mercury and carry all the armor/forcefields.

To be fair, he is in the frame he's in because I recall some folks wanted Banner to peacefully integrate first before sending him to battle.

You can 'upgrade' him sure. But that will be its own build project.

I see it as an opportunity to test some radically different tech trees on a Jackal frame without disturbing the Beowolf. Or paint Beowolf, Cavalier and Ichiro the same colour and play a combat shell game. Or some other Tactical Opportunities that aren't apparent yet.

@Basarin, I know you and some of the other posters have talked about this quest like it was an anime in some other universe.

Allow me to contribute my $0.02. I think the DFRI is looking like a spin-off of the Kausen show.

I mean think about it. The Kausen show probably started out with their arrival to Earth, and there's a story arc where Cavalier meets a friendly human.

During the show, there's mentions of some government organization creating their own fighting robots. It just sees to be window dressing at first...

And then Callaghan goes and suplexes Bandit with his transforming robot. Afterwards, the DFRI become allies of Legio Galbanus.

I'm imagining that fans were so receptive, that the DRFI gets it's own spin-off series, with what we've seen in the quest so far being, as noted by others, prequel material.

TBH this fight is either the first episode, or far more likely, the end fight of the OVA.

Think about it, up to now we fought against two of the three big threats and killed Warlord (who is perfect for important posthumous background character). Now the final fight is against both Sheol's Kaiju who are the most visually threatening enemies and a B-fight against Westphalians with backup from the Legion (AKA Kausen presence); meaning that all current big franchises are in the fight.

I can dig it. You'd also have to reckon that the same production studio is also making Mercury V and Valiant.
Speaking of which, what is the Valiant show based off of, if anything? I mean, Mercury V is a reskinned Mazinger Z, the Kausen are reskinned transformers, and the DFRI is increasingly becoming the organization who's name I can't remember from GaoGaiGar. But Valiant's part seems weirdly...original.
