Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

[X] It's been nearly a year since you first met Meizhen, set aside an evening to spend with her as your closest friend.
[X] Gu Xiulan has done all she could to prepare herself and train, coax her out of the training field for one more night on the town
[X] Han Jian might not be your closest friend, but he was still one of your first, even if you've drifted apart. See if he has some free time to chat

[X] You need to unwind, take a morning and spend it on the slopes with Zhengui and Hanyi, a little childish fun can be nice from time to time

Stick with our friends and family then I guess.

Anyway, someone want to figure out the Zhengui War Chest? We should burn all of our expendables here for our final push. That and make sure we'll have medicine of course.

I'd be down for at least wrapping up the Formations research for Ossuary Horror and Silk Guardians if we have the action to spare for it.

We should have one floating action. Whether we'll have the spare resources to employ them after other expenses is another question.

Which is why we need to do a cash check right now, since Zhengui needs talismans too.

Alright, I'm also going to argue against Zhengui and Hanyi a bit here. While relaxing isn't a bad idea, Zhengui and Hanyi don't feel right here. The other friend options - Meizhen, Xiulan, and Han Jian - feel more like the "year coming to an end" kind of thing. Playing with Zhengui and Hanyi doesn't really feel the same way...

otoh, it could be argued that the Han Jian minor in week 40 and his interlude already did a good job at wrapping up his arc, our relationship with him, and setting out where we both are for the tournament. Hmmm....

Passive Effects
-User and all allies within forty eighty meters gain +4 die to physical defense pools
-User and all allies within forty eighty meters gain +3 dice to stamina and resolve tests
-User gains a three four die bonus vs poison and disease effects
-User and all allies within forty eighty meters have their armor ratings improved by one two

Deepwood Vitality: oo
Cost 7 qi
Instant, response
The user channels their qi into the earth, spreading like a great tangle of roots to link with up to ten allies. On activation the user and each target are granted two temporary health boxes and a four die bonus to physical defense for three turns. On use the user may attempt to dispel an effect on themselves or an and each ally, with a three five die bonus. Temporary health boxes receive damage first, and disappear upon being used. Temporary Health boxes do not stack

Ten Ring Defense: oo
Cost: 4 Qi (initial)
Instant, response
This user fills themselves with the vital qi of the great forests to protect themselves and their allies from harm. Grants the user a three four die bonus to physical defense for five turns. In addition the first two points of damage the user suffers each round is downgraded one stage. Aggravated becomes lethal, lethal becomes nonlethal, nonlethal is negated. The user may expend three two qi to gain one point of semi perfect defense. This effect may be used on allies within range. If the user is not damaged in a turn in which this art is active, they recover two qi.

Hundred Ring Armament: ooo
Cost: 7 qi(initial)
Instant
The user armors themselves and their allies with the iron bark of primeval forests. The user gains two points of perfect defense. This effect may be extended to as many as five allies, for an additional three qi each time. In addition, the user and all allies affected have their armor increased by two. This effect lasts 3 turns.

Thousand Rings Unbreaking
Cost: 10 qi
The eldest trees of the Emerald Seas are mighty things, ancient and nigh invulnerable, akin to living mountains. By calling upon the image of their power, the user gains some measure of their resilience. On activation, the user and up to three allies becomes immune to effects which would move them involuntarily and cannot be grappled, unless the enemy's cultivation exceeds theirs by two levels or one realm. In addition, the user and allies gains a four die bonus to all defenses, and negates, for free, the first point of damage they would take each round, regardless of source or quality. While this technique is active damage to armor durability is reduced by two(Min 1)

Passive Effects
-User adds two dice to all expression tests
-User adds two dice to all socialize tests
-User's speed increases by three five
-User gains a four die bonus on all physical defenses
-User gains a two three die bonus on all spiritual defenses
-User gains a four five die bonus on all rolls to escape grapple or confinement
-User receives a two die bonus on all rolls to begin or maintain a grapple on others
-This Art uses Expression as mastery for all techniques

Illustrious Phantasmal Festival: oooo
Cost: 10 Qi
The foundational technique from which all others in the art arise. The user gathers their qi and the memories of their night of revelry and expels them through every available channel in a rush of power and gleaming many colored mist. In an area sixty eighty meters around centered on the user, ghostly dancers ever shifting in form coalesce from the midst in a riot of color, laughter, music and movement. When attempting to target the user, an enemy must succeed at a five seven success perception test. On success they suffer a two three die penalty on the clash. On failure their attack automatically fails and the threshold for the next perception test is reduced by one(stacking). Area of effect attacks which cover at least half of the area require only a three four success test for hit. Effects which cover the whole area of the technique do not require a test. This effect persists for five turns, and may be renewed as an instant on the final turn for three qi. This technique is an illusion effect, affecting all senses.

Lunatic Whirl: ooo
Cost: 5 qi
Usable only while Illustrious Phantasmal Festival is active. The ghostly dancers gather around an intruder in the festival, laughing, singing and demanding a dance, forcing them to join the revelry. The user clashes with the opponent, and on success, they are grappled, and moved to a random location within the area of effect. Though the dancers will do no harm to their captive, the frenetic pace of the revelry is highly draining, and targets lose three five qi each round in which they remain grappled. In addition, the target suffers a four five die penalty on all attempts to escape. While grappled, targets may not activate any technique which requires the use of their hands arm meridians, or would carry them outside of the revel.
New arts!

TRF got a massive buff, oh my.

And as expected, PLR scales nicely. 7 success perception check is actually pretty hard if you didn't stack perception boosts.

I mean, Han Jian has made it fairly clear to us that at the moment we should view each other as competitors striving for the goal. As such... I just feel that any conversation with him is going to be awkward right now.

Like what are we supposed to say? "Thanks for the help and I hope you make it into the inner sect." When we both know that he is at a stark disadvantage because he isn't green when even Xiulan is? It feels a bit disingenuous to me.

I would like to have other things to talk to him about other aspects of interest, but we have drifted apart from him to the point that finding those out might be a bit weird, at least to me.

[X] Gu Xiulan has done all she could to prepare herself and train, coax her out of the training field for one more night on the town
[X] Heizui has, for all his ill temper, been a decent host. Thank him for the time you've spent in the Vale
[X] It's been nearly a year since you first met Meizhen, set aside an evening to spend with her as your closest friend.

With tutoring, we only need 3 actions to complete our close Arts. We could spend another action on formations research and our last action to build the Horror.
No more than one horror may be commanded at a time, on creation, the horror may be assigned one arm based and one spine or leg based technique from the users roster, each of which it may use up to three times. Techniques must be two dots or below.
The user channels their qi into the earth, spreading like a great tangle of roots to link with up to ten allies. On activation the user and each target are granted two temporary health boxes and a four die bonus to physical defense for three turns. On use the user may attempt to dispel an effect on themselves and each ally, with a five die bonus. Temporary health boxes receive damage first, and disappear upon being used. Temporary Health boxes do not stack
Scalding Stream: oo
Cost 4 Qi
Channeling their boiling qi into a strike, the user washes away a foe's defenses, to tenderize them for their allies. The user gains a +5 bonus to their attacking die pool with a melee weapon. The attack is granted armor piercing three, and deals an additional one semi perfect damage on success. On hit the enemy receives a 3 die penalty to their physical defense pool for three turns. If an enemy with this penalty is struck again by Scalding Stream, this penalty stacks up to four times(Max -12) renewing the duration each time.

Opening up a fight with that saves us a good deal of trouble in getting our death spiral going, plus it's an obvious enough potential threat that it demands a response from an otherwise troublesome peer opponent.

Given that we only have 1 specific do or die fight to get past the Top 16 in order to make it into the Inner Sect, we couldn't ask for anything more in terms of Consumables for that sake.

I disagree about Heizui. Remember that we can trust Ling Qi to do things like be polite offscreen now. I don't think he has much narrative importance at the moment compared to our friends.
If we want to bind him next year then I think this minor is critical. It also helps retain access to the cultivation site.

Not sure about the third.

I'm not really sure if Xuilan would appreciate our efforts so close, with it being a solid chance she fails this year don't want to make her feel any worse about us than her jealousy will already make her feel :(

I doubt it's gonna help with the thread as is, but still. Don't really feel super strongly with other options so will just leave these two.

Also, I've noticed that our domian is kinda limited... as in all it does right now is help Meizhen and Zhengui.

I get that it's still super early, and imagine eventually it might give minor benefits to 3 dots too, but I would have thought it might also help LQ herself now. I can see it staying as is, but getting a domain dot so early/before the tournament feels like a big deal, and it's a bit of a shame it's so limited. Then again, without being able to see other domains as far as we know that limitation makes it far stronger than the competitions when it works, with them maybe only getting two die instead of our four.

That said, I love the new levels of our other arts. Our fights are gonna be so troll I can't wait.

I really really don't understand where this perspective on a night out comes from. We're friends and hanging out has nothing to do with the Inner Sect.

Problem with that is Horror is from when yrsiller thought dice were going to end up in the 30s, not the high 40s pushing 50. Horror only runs 27 dice at base. Scalding Stream isn't hitting shit with 32 dice.

If we could upgrade OH to take 3 dot techniques, it would be worth making it into a buffbot (pressure crack + defense stuff), but don't think we have the time for that with 1 action.

I feel like there isn't really anything else to say to Han Jian, and I think that taking the morning off to relax puts us into a good frame of mind going into the tournament.

Yeah, I think I've been convinced that Han Jian isn't the right option here. Not sure whether to go with Heizui or Zhengui though...

Mmmh, @yrsillar, that part might be wrong, as it used to be:

Interesting decision there to not increase the dice much for TRF but instead going full hog on utility. However, @yrsillar we just got TRF5, not TRF6. It shouldn't be mastered (and there is a heart meridian at TRF6).

Also, how many dots TRU has? Is it meant to have no duration?

We're actually at 437, we did good on our FVM drip.

So only 58 needed, easily in reach.

We can fairly comfortably get AE 4 as well.

So, FVM, SCS, AE, and AM. Room for one more, of which the lowest hanging fruit is AS.
With tutor this means AE/AM tutor, FVM Zeqing, AE ??, and room for two more. The big question is whether we want to double up on something, go formation/something else, or even set up the EPC drip to AE.

AE and AM have nothing in common, we can't tutor for them.

That being said, our base Armor is up to 7 now, and HRA puts us to 9.

Stack these with AS and our armor is 10. That's amazing.

We now have a fearsome opener with FVM into Crescent's Grace into HRA.
