I mean. I'll believe that the Colleges have agents build a tower or just travelling agents in the Border Princes, to keep an eye on certain magical sites or what not - or at least just to have a source of eyes in the area. Potentially as a base point for recruiting magically attuned people from the Border Princes. Other times they get exiled or what not from the borders of the Empire, and set up elsewhere while maintaining communications to their College, keeping an eye on the area. And the Grey College seems the type to want to have an eye and base south of the border, considering threats and what not that might come from it. Then again, I don't know if they're doing that right now, or if that's just something that was more common in Franz's time.

People who want to gift this Border Princess title realize that your going to be gifting them a shithole right? I mean seriously they are a bunch of poor small towns that will constantly be raided by Orcs and Goblins why would any one want this.

[x] Ulthar's Rangers and Petrescu's marksmen are ranging far to ensure that any greenskin that claps eyes on the Expedition don't live to tell the tale. Assist them.
[x] If any resistance does start to gather, they will be smashed apart by the very heavy cavalry of the Knightly Orders. Stand ready with them.

Esbern and Seija of the Amber Order
[x] Help Esbern teach Seija to Dispel.

Maximilian de Gaynesford of the Gold Order
[x] Ask him to teach Johann to Dispel.

[X] Purchase the Helldrake scales (100 gc).
[x] Do not purchase the title of a Border Princess (300 gc).

What's the reasoning behind choosing Titus Muggins over the Sylvanian leader? I'm curious
For me, a Halfling we've fought beside before. Halflings are cool. This might be a migration? We've not had much interaction with them, and they neighbour our homeland.

A lot of people are voting to buy all three items, but note we can't afford them all as we don't have 600g. If we vote to buy three, the lowest-vote one will be dropped, so you might prefer to vote for the two you most want.

I really doubt any imperial authority worth the name would consider a piece of paper with an incidental dwarf seal enough for diplomatic immunity.
I'm not saying it is diplomatic immunity, I'm saying it can be compared to that of current days. It is a royal status that doesn't offer legal immunity but can be used for some unusual things like tripling your legal allotment of house guard for a wealthy tilean merchant, or save an important person from gallows because the only authority who can legally judge him is Emperor himself etc. Law is one of the weapons Grey Order can use, and royal status is something that adds to its arsenal.

People still live there.\shrug

Cleaning up a corner of the dangerous land in Border Princes is far from impossible, and is far from most impressive things we personally going to do before the end of this campaign, or saw another accomplishing in the past.

It is, however, going to be something that takes effort and resources. Mathilde is far better equipped for that than most local lords, hilariously enough, being a nigh-unkillable hero unit, having a steady gold income from EIC, and good relationships with dwarfs nearby.

You've nowhere near the knowledge required to judge one way or another. You could certainly give it a try, introducing a foreign species into an ecosystem your people rely on couldn't possibly go badly.
Thankfully, we have the Liber Mortis to bring back any species we theoretically drive extinct.

Yes, that book will be my answer to all problems until we actually open it and discover the limitations. And then I will argue further practice will allow us to bypass said limitations

[X] Forces have been sent ahead to bridge the first inconvenient tributary of the Blood River; join them and aid in standing guard against any that may try to stop you.

Bam, I voted for all the campaign actions. Standing guard will almost certainly give us the chance to kill some greenskin scum, as will joining the rangers.

Joining the knights is more a social call which I chose because demigryphs are awesome and the knights ride demigryphs. The fact that it might result in us riding down a bunch of greenskins is a nice bonus.

[X] You've heard that greatswords and greataxes are near identical in the way they're used, and you happen to be surrounded by experts in the art of the axe. Learn how to use one.

I'm voting for martial training for the same reasons as before (more martial, options, dwarf appeal, etc)

[X] Help Esbern teach Seija to Dispel.

They helped us out, time to repay the favor. Also having Seija learn dispel will probably be useful.

[X] Purchase the strange Lustrian eggs (200 gc).

We have amber wizards. So even if our luck is poor and we get cold ones then at least we can probably run them into some skaven and do some damage. Hell one of the Amber wizards might take a liking to them and decide they'd like a familiar (these are the guys who think wolves, tiger and bears make good choices for a familiar).

[] Purchase the Helldrake scales (100 gc).

Honestly this is probably going to be a pointless purchase that we never get around to doing anything with. But, still it's enticing anyway. Still I have no feelings one way or the other at the moment so I'm not voting either way right now.

[X] Do not purchase the title of a Border Princess.

Urghh, as if the fief wasn't bad enough. This land is in the middle of contested territory that's constantly attacked by orcs and other gribbles and probably has nothing of worth on it anyway. When the option says purchase the 'title of border princess' I honestly think it might literally mean we get the title and nothing else.

Given that our shiny item makes us immune to corruption I am kind of tempted to start studying Fire Magic. Just to play up the whole "Shadow and Flame" thing we've got going on.

Just means we can never take that belt of.

Never.

No, not even in the shower.

Never mind, bad idea.

It means that you could juggle warpstone, hug a demon, and fling Dhar around and just have to deal with your robes getting singed as the corruption burns away rather than sinking into your soul.
I take it back. 15 favours was totally worth it.
Seems we have some not so light reading to do.

It's not royal status unless the Empire accepts it. Why on earth would they? To use an example you brought up:

'Border Prince': You can't hang me. I have a piece of paper signed by a dwarf. Only the Empire can judge me.
Bored Imperial official: "Sure we can't your princeliness..." *tears up paper and burns it then hangs the previous owner*

Word of QM. We cannot do that. Our soul is locked into Ulgu. Leaving aside how bad an idea it would be anyway.

The sort of people who'd want the title already have wealth and power and want a big jump in social rank to go with it. Alternatively it's a way to exile someone while publicly promoting them. It's a basis to set up a friendly power in the region or an excuse to make war on an unfriendly one. It can be sold to whoever holds the territory now for instant legitimacy.

It wouldn't necessarily be the college doing this directly - they'd be facilitating such a action by an Elector Count or the cult of Sigmar or the Emperor and getting a big favour from them. And from the recipient if they play it right. And whoever the new prince is they'll probably need some advisers...

@BoneyM How do favors among the Dwarves themselves work? Do Zhufbar and Karak Kadrin now effectively have a debt of honor to Kragg the Grim for having it taken on to himself to repay our favor for them? Or do the myriad bonds of honor that bind the Dwarven Holds together and the respect for their greatest heroes and runelords enough to essentially overshadow any such thing, making it normal (or even expected) among Dwarves for one Dwarf of note to freely repay outsider favors on behalf of any and all other Dwarves?

Karaz-a-Karak repaying the debt is part of the burden of High Kingship.
