Hey boss, we gained 3 piety this turn yeah? I recall our previous piety as 18. 17+1. Shouldn't it now be 21 instead of 20?


Also is anyone else finding it hilarious we might very well qualify as a Champion of Ranald? Like, we have 20+ piety and it's all dedicated to Ranald. I'm thinking we might be one of his most genuinely devout worshippers. Which is both sad, and hilarious.

This is a very honest motivation we can present to him--and if he's keeping his finger on the pulse of things, he'll also know that we're the one who took down that book of memoirs that sold like hotcakes everywhere. It's a potential vector that he can use to guilt trip the ones involved for being dicks, as well as a potential way to drum up further support.

And as much as I'd like to say that our private motivation is "Because someone has to do it", we're not actually officially here on the Empire's dime--we're here because they're not pulling their weight damnit, but someone has to keep the oath, it might as well be us.

And the Dawi have been fair friends, there's no way we'd let them go into this berefit of aid.

As for the Enchanted Item--Boon of Hysh is a good all-rounder healing spell, one that recovers injury and also covers the poisons and disease that goblins and skaven like throwing around.

You could say that she already paid them back by allowing them to solve ancient grudges, but that's more repaying what they did for the Empire/Stirland, not the assistance they lend Mathilde herself.

Firstly... claiming that is a massive overreach. She's not here on the orders or request of another, and the Empire itself is providing no formal assistance to Belegar's mission, which is why he got frustrated and decided to put out the call for basically anyone who wanted in to come meet him. Framing the appearance of a single wizard as a sign of oaths repaid kind of cheapens their value and highlights how the Empire is only sending a single wizard, rather than a small army of professional troops.

Secondly... well, it's not true. Mathilde isn't going to Karak Eight Peaks because of her ancestor's oaths, she's going because she wants adventure, or perhaps just to get well clear of the Empire for a bit and find herself. The professional relationship she has with Belegar is going to be incredibly important for her chances of survival and glory, so I strongly recommend against lying to the dude on the first meeting.

I don't think it is a lie, I think Matahilde cares about the oath between the Dwarves and the empire because she has been in Belegar's position of being abandoned by the empire as you are about to fight an incredibly important campaign because stupid political bullshit. When that happened to her the Dwarves came and pulled through to help and now she is doing the same.

We aren't acting as the representative of the Empire because we are sent but because we care about the oath even if those bastards at the elector meet don't.

The Empress was part of the Secret Society, wasn't she? If not the actual head of it.

That would explain why they locked that info the fuck down under the highest classification possible. And it would explain how they had the power to unilaterally declare us Rogue if we didn't do what they wanted.

This is what I believe Mathilde really is and how she approaches it. She is no grear representative of an empire. It's not matter of grandeur oaths. Mathilde just thinks she would be of use here, so she gives her help. Mainly because she respects Dwarves.

And her rep is good enough that it is believable.

Regrowth is the holy grail of healing. It can resurrect the dead. Spending the buttload of favours it'll cost to get it is in this case entirely justified.

The reasoning behind this is sound. I kinda wanted to do the Grey Order option, but they don't announce themselves.
 
I thought about adding "I'm here representing me because I want to be super good friends with dwarves" but decided against it because a) I'm pretty sure it'd be an autopick because it'd seem like the 'pick me for free dwarf rep!' option and b) I couldn't think of a way to write it without Mathilde sounding like a suck-up. Besides, you being there at all sends that message, why waste how you present yourself by reiterating it?

Yeah, Regrowth is powerful, but realistically speaking, with as much of a god damn shadowrun this operation will be, the time limit on its biggest perk over Boon of Hysh is a dealbreaker.
