1: Apprentice level; able to begin to learn the simplest of magics.
2-3: Journeyman level; able to cast simpler spells easily and begin to learn the simpler 'coloured' magics.
4-6: Magister level; the peak of an 'average' magical career.
7-10: The level of Magister Lords and Battle Wizards.
@BoneyM Does levels 7-10 in magic correspond to Levels 1-4 in battle wizards?

It would make a lot of sense if so since you can't start with battle magic until level 7 magic which would be effectively a level 1 battle wizard.

(Just asking to try and sort the logic of it out, because this is what makes sense to me.)

(To put this in perspective by this logic Elspeth von Draken as a level 4 battle wizard lord would have level 10 magic score.)

This being the guy who brought the freaking Liber Mortis to freaking Sylvania on a campaign he couldn't be sure to survive, or even die in such a convenient fashion that he could hand it off with his dying breath. Maybe you're right.
On the other hand, would he really carry all his letter correspondence and other private and useful personal documents that aren't necessary life and death (or worse) secrets with him at all times? And what about his Last Will?
Also, you did almost constantly give us the option to rummage in his office once we got the keys. Somehow I have a feeling that that was not intended purely as a trap whose best outcome even at a natural 100 would have been "You found nothing of note, but at least you didn't get caught".
I didn't think it needed to be specified, but yes, Gustav commands the army.
I wasn't sure, what with him letting us command the campaign and all. Could have been that he has already accepted us as de-facto regent until the council reconvenes at Wurtbad. After all it's not as if he has much more of a clue than us regarding the broader strategic implications of holding territory in Sylvania with tired troops vs abandoning it completely until the next EC shows interest and commands otherwise.

Anton was pretty explicitly set up as Regent in the final council meeting by Van Hal for exactly this eventuality. And... do you really want to take on Anton, Master of the eight-layered deception, Silvertongued Serpent of Stirland, Champion of Chance, Flayer of Fortune, able to strike down his pawns from hundreds of miles away when they outlive their usefulness? Shiver. ;)

I feel Gustav was taking our orders as we were clearly a Wizard on a mission, but that's completed. We can leave the busywork of occupation to him. Maybe make sure an intelligence attache or two remain in place with the Drakenhof occupation.

You can think about it that way, but I'm not going to say that it maps that way, because I know if I did, then people would immediately start making wild assumptions based on tabletop mechanics.

I will.

Even if it turns out not to be important, I feel like there's very few relevant drawbacks and more benefits than just raiding Abelheim's desk. Like for instance telling our regent Anton that he is indeed our regent now and deciding in a small council of three as to how to proceed and how to prepare for when the news inevitably spread to all corners of the Empire as our army marches back.
Not to mention bringing the Liber Mortis out of Sylvania sooner rather than later. We don't know if the "Elector Countess" is actually dead. And then there's two and a half Amethyst wizards of high caliber with half a week's head start. Who knows what they are up to.

Cons I can think of is looking opportunistic to people and maybe loosing a bit of the heaps of good will we accumulated with Gustav and the rest of the generals. Then again, maybe he has an urgent message or two that he would actually be grateful giving to us.
And any way you look at it, if we are to stay the Spymistress of Stirland, even if it's only until the next council meeting, then our job definitely isn't walking around with an army. Not when the Shadowsteed has been known to be one of our greatest tools.

So, I hereby implore everyone who voted to return to Wurtbad to also append the following to your vote:

No matter what your hopes and plans are once we arrive there, going there sooner rather than later has advantages and few drawbacks. Please find it in you to do this little edit.

Yes, because that just makes us have great strategic speed, that doesn't stop us if a mounted flyer or a furious vampire tears after us. It's only as fast as a normal horse.
 
While it is tempting to rush back, I feel that the Liber Mortis is far safer with an army as an escort rather than one heavily wounded rider.

The campaign was never to purge all of Sylvania. It was to Purge the Haunted Hills, and then to take down Drakenhof.

And if you wanted to loot the underground facilities, you probably shouldn't have collapsed a few hundred thousand tons of rubble onto it.
I believe that is in fact the point of collapsing the castle onto it.
So anyone who wants to loot the underground facilities they'd need to bring mining gear and set up a mine for it. Which if Stirland continues to hold the town of Drakenhof, is impossible to happen unnoticed.
If you really want Mathilde to spend every waking moment for the next few days within murdering distance of everyone who might turn into a berserk ensorcelled murderbeast while already wounded, yes, you can do that. Or you could not.
Or we could just let them wait 3 days and the last of the berserkers will burn out. The bound Dhar spells break down catastrophically after a week without maintenance, and we've already spent 4 days blasting at the castle.

I.e. the problem is settled without our intervention, because decamping an army is going to take a week at least.
As to setting up an administration, you've got no authority to actually do anything in that regard.
That's Anton's job to set up a mayor, Wilhelmina's job to take over the tax apparatus(I assume we're shipping the documents home on our supply train).

Our job to expand the Watch into it.

Well, 'EIC Shareholder' should start meaning something now that it can be reconfigured to profit, right? And if we take the 'use intelligence aparatus to give EIC a leg up in market prices' option that should help both the intelligence community and the trade cartel the Grand County has a 28% share in.
I dare say spending an action on Comprehend Arcane Business Practices is crucial now. The EIC shareholders are now:
-Mathilde
-Markus Heirs, if any. If not, I don't think we know enough to determine if the shares will revert to the Company, to Stirland(as Markus ows Stirland money for the shares), or go to open auction, in which case there is a 100% chance that Wilhelmina's sons will snap it up.

That is a super bad idea when Mathilde is badly wounded and should absolutely not go galloping over the country for several days on her own when the adrenaline that's suppressing the stress wears off

Her speed has nothing to do with it, the news of Abelhelm's death won't reach Wurtbad before we do, given that the only people who know are with our army and at MOST have a 4 day lead.
