[X] Write in: Try to ease the awkwardness by making small talk, like telling each other what you do in your free time, and swapping stories.

Just a little something to build a repertoire with each other outside of work.
This could be good. Get to know him better, but also perhaps to give him a more realistic picture of our experience and abilities... I.e. enthusiastic but limited and talented but still developing.

A reminder for the candidates.

Knight Dude said:
He peers at you through the haze of smoke and his own drunkenness as he recounts his tale. "There's a group of 'em that are always together, and though I ain't ever seen your boy getting up to mischief, the others in that group are right proper arses. Always makin' us recite hymns to Sigmar, and if we don't know the words we get a beatin'. And if we say we follow one of the other Gods we get a bigger beatin'. I asked my Priest, and he says that's not right."
Part of an overly zealous group, but unknown if he acts the same.
Pistol Dude said:
You're introduced to a dizzying array of young nobles with more pistols than sense, and none of them have anything bad to say about Gustav von Jungfreud. They seem to hero-worship him, each competing to tell stories of the man charging impossible odds with a repeater pistol in each hand, dealing out improbable amounts of death. You listen carefully nonetheless, and a picture forms in your mind. Gustav is always the first into the fight, the boys are all eager to tell you. Now, you're no strategist, but it occurs to you that leading from the front is all well and good, but there's a time and a place for it, and the time isn't always and the place isn't everywhere.
Reckless, but either skilled or lucky enough to survive despite it.
Engineer Dude said:
Luckily for the famous Gunnery School of Nuln, they're entirely welcoming to you, and more than happy to talk of the man who put his chances of tenure in jeopardy to volunteer for service in Stirland. Everyone speaks of how brilliant he is; how he miniaturized the bird-bomb, how he demolished the stables with what he insisted on calling the greatgreatcannon, how he tried to replicate the dwarvern gyrocopter and ended up creating a sort of ballista that fires enormous spinning blades.

You're shown into his workshop, which is a picture of absolute chaos. Parts and pipes and tools and scraps of parchment lie everywhere, half-covering prototype devices of unidentifiable purpose. You eye writing scrawled across the stone wall in charcoal, which appears to be calculating how big you can scale up a mortar until steel is no longer sufficient to contain the blast. Then it starts speculating about the properties of gromril.

Ambitious. Inspired. And quite possibly insane.
Well, the last line says it all. Quite possible that he'd be more concerned with teching-up the army than any other duties.

I have forgotten all of their names.
EDIT: I have found their names.
Sir Berthold... Gustav von Jungfreud... Otto of Nuln

[x] Clear the study further so we can fight from ShadowHorseback if it becomes necessary. Prepare for more Mathildefacing from Van Hal.
-[x] While we do, talk. Share experiences, stories, get to know each other better. How does he prepare for battle and possible death? Any ideas what fast but not tough infiltrators might be? We don't get much non-report-giving face time, so let's use it.

@BoneyM is the study tall enough for this?

Being unprofessional here will highlight Mathilde's unprofessional garb. So let's be charmingly awkward to create UST.
Genius. I'm thinking something like...

[x] Apologize. We should have had greatswords on hand during our interviews in case someone tried to kill us when discovered, and messengers that we had personally recruited who couldn't possibly be infiltrators, and shooting Berthold was just... really, appallingly stupid even as an accident. We've been making up way too much of this spymistress thing as we go along and it's his County that pays when we screw up.
-[x] We're five years younger than the next youngest Journeyman to ever leave the Grey College and he deserves someone better. Someone whose training is actually done. We almost killed ourselves with those stupid Shyish swords, too, and who knows how long it would have taken for someone to find our body.

[ ] CENSORED ON THE AUTHORITY OF THE ORDER OF THE SILVER HAMMER

No, I suppose I can't vote for that. This isn't QQ.

[ ] Deliver your report regarding the Marshal candidates (write in the report)
-[ ] Sir Berthold - hung out with overly zealous knights who beat anyone they deemed insufficiently pious to Sigmar and Sigmar alone.
-[ ] Gustav von Jungfreud - reckless, well loved by the pistoliers, either amazingly skilled or has Ranald's own luck.
-[ ] Otto of Nuln - genius, possibly insanely so, no knowledge of military experience outside of building new ways to kill things.

I'm too tired to word good right now, have an outline.

Now is not a good time to goof off and be unprofessional.

EDIT: Probably not a good time to start blubbering about how we screwed up and feel under qualified.

[X] Stand there in increasingly awkward silence for twenty-seven minutes.
-[X] Then break down and give your report. Sir Berthold has no particular dirt on him, although his friends are noted as overzealous to the point of beating peasants that do not know the catechism and his Sigmarite chapter house was very obstructionist. You don't like the sound of that, but you swear that wasn't why you accidentally knocked him unconscious. Sir Jungfreud is skillful and leads from the front- at all times. Very popular with young men. His outrider barracks was obstructionist and also bruised your nose. Otto of Nuln may be a genius, and likely took the post to practice some of his more extreme weapon designs out in the country where an explosion or two wouldn't be minded quite so much as in Altdorf. Likely to be expensive, but potentially revolutionary.

@DarkLight140 @Seventeen If you guys are serious about this(?) then how about adding 'clear the room so we can fight' while we... unburden ourselves?

Not the time for this and I don't think we should do it at all, I know we are rather honest with him but this is pushing it a bit too far.

I like Darklight's vote, although I would strike that bit with the Shyish weapons somewhat. Something more like, 'you barely even caught the weapon from the barrow being accidentally booby-trapped, what with it absorbing and then releasing nearby magic.'

Personally feeling like the report. At lunch now though, typing it on phone will take a while
Van Hal's look is the resigned disbelief you've seen from him a few times now, but Markus' disappointment hurts.
Van Hal: "...sounds like her alright. And being up front about screwing up is good if I don't have to worry about deliberately bad intel to hide mistakes"

[X] [Write-In] Discuss the process witch hunters use in such situation and work with the Count to develop ideas for covert communication. Also give him the report on the marital advisers.

Might as well right?

[RELATIONSHIP TESTED, VAN HAL: Coin flipped, heads! Birds fly, grass grows, Mathilde is gonna Mathilde.]

Perfect, he's already accustomed to this.

[RELATIONSHIP TESTED, MARKUS: Coin flipped, tails! He is disappointed in his pupil.]

SIR MARKUS VON PFAFFBACH RELATIONSHIP CHANGE: -1, now 6/10.

Nooooo, not Markus! I liked him.
