[X] Plan Mad Science is Mad Expensive

Some thoughts about Plan Arcologies, Income and Rollouts
it is strange to see a plan with Havoc Scout Mech Development but no shimmer shields
Automated Civilian Shipyards 0/250 4 dice 80R 68% do we realy need the logistics next turn or can 3 dice be used here?
Two glacier mines are -4 but one stage of orbital comms has a 98% of giving +2 is the expected result and the shipyards/second orbital comms phase give good odds of ending up higher.

Uju, I'm serious, you're doing it all over again.
I was there, man. The hydrofoil yards got stopped because we felt like we had "enough hydrofoils" and didn't want to invest the -6 Energy, especially since this was back before fusion power.

We did not just arbitrarily stop building hydrofoils because we decided that we knew better than the Navy did what the Navy needed.
Which is what YOU are doing.
I was here for much of that time as well. Lurking.
I didnt follow every detail of every argument that was going on, but I was aware of the general thrust of them.
I dont see much if any difference between my suggestion upthread and what was done then.

At best you can say this was pre-Priority tags, so you had to suss out military intentions from the text.
But the text going "hostile naval raider activity has dropped everywhere but the South East Asian Islands" after we built the Copenhagen Rapier shipyard seemed pretty clear to me.

Mind you, I didnt disagree with the decision then and dont disagree with the decision now, given the Energy cost.
But that doesnt change that it was a deliberate decision at the time that was brought up afterwards.

The Super Orcas are designed to fly off essentially the same platforms as the old Orcas. Including existing Navy carriers. I think you are grossly overestimating the degree to which carriers are designed around their aircraft and not the other way around.

EDIT: Maybe Ithilid disagrees. I dunno.
But I'm really tired of you just randomly name-dropping your opinions about how things work and treating them as indistinguishable from facts, even if sometimes the things you name-drop are facts.
Back up Simon.
I have barely posted in this thread; almost half my posts in this thread have been with regard to this particular conversation. And when I have asked questions about changes in doctrine and rollout, I have been generally careful to phrase them as questions and opinions.

You are swinging at strawmen. Stop doing that.

Bluntly, depending on the Energy situation I might rather put off the hydrofoil yards for a while. That's something you do when you have a +10 Energy surplus or more the turn before, just so you don't lose the ability to attempt other projects that same turn. Now wouldn't be a bad time, actually... but we so urgently need to get a variety of new industry up and running that I'd rather not dip into the Energy budget farther than I'd have to right away.
With the current cost of reactors and energy being more reasonable, I'd rather have that done by the end of the year to thicken the eyes and ears in our littorals, given the increasing proliferation of Nod air and undersea assets. We can have more hydrofoils out faster than the escort carrier project, or the frigates, because no lead time.

Especially since the third hydrofoil shipyard is in the Pacific, which is where some of the current naval indicators of concern are.

@uju32 , based on this, plus the fact that the Super Orca design is already finalized anyway, I think we should just skip bothering to get any new techs before developing the escort carriers. There's an argument for working on plasma cannons or shimmer shields before developing the Havoc, maybe, but the escort carriers have waited long enough.
In case I didnt make myself clear previously, Shimmershields RnD is for the carrier itself. Not for its aircraft.
To see if we can work that into a new design without time-consuming refits. To hopefully make a near miss torpedo or a close-intercept antiship missile to be a survivable event instead of a mission kill or a sinking. Or incorporate it in DAMCON.

We're not likely to start building Escort Carriers before, at best, the last quarter of Year 1. Thats seems to be the reality of the cash rush in current progress and other military commitments; we will need to build up the income stream first to sustain another shipbuilding program while doing other stuff. So we're not(or rather should not be) in a rush to draft a new naval design.

Im all for bulking up the Navy.
They are in my opinion one of the two most important military branches, along with ZOCOM; the Navy keeps our shipping lanes open, while ZOCOM keeps us in money. But we're not in a crisis situation that dictates the sort of rush where 1-2 turns is critical.

So that's a jump from Wasp to Queen Elizabeth just to accommodate the Wingmen.
Yeah, no, that's not worth it. Not for an escort carrier.
1) Point of correction: USS Wasp is 40 metric kilotons full load displacement. HMS Queen Elizabeth is 70 metric kilotons FLD. 75% heavier. The closest RL examples to what the GM seems to be talking about as a 50kt carrier is something like an America-class LHA (45 kilotons) or immediate post-war Midway(45 kilotons when launched after WW2). Maybe an Essex-class post-war refit, which some sources say went as big as 47 kilotons.

Fleet carriers are likely to be much bigger. The GM has given no figures I can recall though.

2)Disagree strongly.

If the QM says its an option if we have the research done beforehand? I'd rather have give the ship designers the option to fit in wingman drones than not.A 25% increase in displacement from 40kt to 50kt for the ability to double an escort carrier airwing's firepower or survivability would be a bargain, especially since it doesnt come with a doubling of pilots. Even if procurement costs are directly proportional to carrier weight it would still be worth taking.

When we built MARVs, we didnt go for the lowcost version, and we havent regretted that choice either; superMARVs are roughly a third bigger and 45% more expensive than a normal MARV, but are pound for pound more effective.

Yeah I know that and you know that, but not everyone knows that and posting a vote tally motivates people to vote because they can see the votes in it and then pick the one they like.

[X] Plan Arcologies, Income and Rollouts
You are designing your Havoc Mech before designing Shimmershields to go on the design.
That strikes me as a bad idea and sets up future refit costs for us.

You're scanning Services.
Noone has scanned Military since Takeda was assassinated IIRC. Why?
Thought voting didn't open for another half an hour but I gotta go to sleep so good thing it's now.
You on the other hand spread yourself too thin.
The money youre spending on the Scrin gacha could be boosting our income now.
Then we do that gacha next turn.

Your military choices are better though IMO.

She is not an arch traitor. An idealist, sure. A bit naive, sometimes. But very competent and very much wants the best for the Initiative.
I called Litvinov a crusader before, I am only affirmed in my opinion.

At least you say she is very competent. Better than I expected.

Maybe I will upgrade her to paladin, but that remains to be seen.

Why did you copy/paste this entire plan, and without putting in any 'X's? Did you intend to vote for it?

No. It's clear from the Idle statements:

Heavy Industry (5 dice) 60 Resources
-[] Automated Civilian Shipyards, 3 dice (60 Resources) 23%
-2 dice idle
Light and Chemical Industry (4 dice) 0 Resources

Agriculture (3 dice) 0 Resources

that it is a form of minimalistic criticism and argument for the Plan Arcologies, Income and Rollouts.
