Though I'd prefer we'd learn of Mareia circumstances as fast as possible, we have to put out fires and prepare for new ones. dang it.

Again, I´d be all over choosing "Cold Case" over "Eye to the Skies"(?) if people were up to cramming some omake boni into it first to raise its abyssmal chances to something more acceptable.

If only we had the extra action for Merlin...

I feel it, he's the Merlin to Gawain's Arthur!

This plan had the best analysis so far, but I'd be willing to change if anyone writes up a comparison between this and their plan and gives good reasons as to why it's better.

Omake: Crushing It (in Imperial Accounting)
A/N: Because I've got nothing to do while the plans battles it out, Imma do a budget proposal omake for my plan ([] Plan: So Much to Do So Little Action Slots Prepare for a Deficit v1)! AKA, bored Accounting grad takes financial worldbuilding of our fictional empire too seriously, lol. Idk I just keep thinking about what the Empire's accountants need to do all year, including wrangling all the department budgets into cohesive financial documents. Do fantasy financial documents for our fantasy empire entering the magic&steam age count as an Omake, @Questor?

OOOOO

Crushing It (in Imperial Accounting)
Budgeting for operations that didn't officially exist was an accountant's worst nightmare, one Marley Ragquill, a young but haggard-looking hen, thought dryly. The back and forth of the amount of redacted documents and sifting through the budget revisions and requests between all the departments had really cut into her regular auditing hours, but the Imperial Accounting department had taken some hits during the recent Feather Flu outbreak last year so they were a bit low on gryffpower as it were.

No, Marley wasn't sick, they just... Had a habit of preening less than they should've, and naturally scraggly feathers. She could preen when there wasn't a budget proposal due to be seen in two hours and the thing wasn't even properly formatted yet.

Scritch-skrit-scratch.

The scritching of the quill echoed furiously against the desk and papers betwixt the two, as talons gently traced at the rough half draft from the last imperial accountant who'd looked at this thing.

'Something-something Kestor, or something, haven't heard from them since the outbreak,' then a shake of the head, 'focus, hen.'

It was that time of year again, as the festivities of the year's end tapered off into the soft beginnings of the new year... And with it the uncertainties brought by news of their erstwhile hostile neighbor splintering into three, or was it four, factions less than a month into the year what with their Queen being assassinated and all...

She yawned, and then chugged down the rest of the tankard full of tea, cups had nothing on tankards. This year's annual budget proposal was the product of enough tea to drown an entire family and nearly a week of no sleep because half the department still hadn't been back to work! But hey, at least war wasn't upon them yet.

...

Something happens between that third tankard of Neighponian tea and the last hour before the deadline, because Marley's next clear memory was handing Emperor Garrick Golden-Feather the budget proposal just outside one of the council rooms before what would probably be another exhaustive meeting. He thanked her kindly, and then the hen dismissed herself smiling softly at a job well done and blearily making her way back to her desk.

...Late noon found Marley snoring away on her desk atop a pile of auditing paperwork, to be awoken hours later by the mouthwatering scent of a tray piled with savory shortbread and an amused Diamond Dog in kitchen staff garb; it was Soft-Sparks, with her short ruddy coat, well-kept claws, and occasional forays into forcing Marley to see the sun every once in a while.

Soft-Sparks knew the workaholic's true weakness after all, baked goods. The dog had the perfect monopoly too, Marley could burn water and was a living fire hazard in the kitchen, and it was a living miracle that she could make herself tea. Soft-Sparks was truly a cunning and crafty coworker adjacent who smelt like the inside of a bakery.

"Late night?" Ears flutter foward, eyes crinkled with gentle mirth.

"Yup," Marley was already chowing down on the cookies brought by probably one of the few reasons the hen didn't subsist entirely on tea, procrastination and spite.

"Did you like the tankard?"

"Now, I can finally work twice as much," Marley said between bites of shortbread, her wings ruffling, "can finally make up for all the time wasted outside."

"Was hoping you'd finally pace yourself," Soft-Sparks sat down at the other chair, before a teasing, "too much to ask, s'pose."

"Not with the department's losses I won't," Marley groused, already halfway through the tray of goodies.

"I'll make you something later then," and then the radiant canine had leaped to her feet, "will be delicious!"

Then in a flash Marley was alone, and the hen's heart of quills and balance sheets felt strangely full.

'...Must be the cookies, or the lack of sleep.'

Then another devoured morsel, followed by the quiet shuffle of papers as Marley got back to work.

Say, you mind calculating our chances for "Cold Case" after taking into account any possible stat and event boni?

Would be good to know for next turn when we need to vote for it if we don´t wanna start loosing it over time.

Aight.

[ ] Cold Case: In all the chaos surrounding the aftermath, it's easy to forget that a Queen has been murdered. But that would be a mistake. Whoever killed the monarch of Maretonia is still out there, and their identity and motivations are a mystery. A pity that no one seems interested in trying to figure this mystery out, though that's hardly surprising since at this point half of Maretonia is a suspect and the other half have the more pressing concern of survival on their minds. Solving the murder of a foreign Queen without the support or knowledge of her subjects is a nearly impossible task...but the Abolitionists and your own spy corps have made a habit of exceeding your expectations. If anyone has any hope of figuring out who killed Queen Mareia, it's Ravenburg and Ambrosia. Cost: 500. Time: One Year. Reward: Information on Queen Mareia's Assassination. Chance of Success: 35%

Not including any possible positive modifiers that our spycraft this turn might make Better, btw, but food for thought on our next turn. (I'm hoping we crit hard on our Spying on the Stars, well, I hope we crit on EVERYTHING, but Spying on the Stars has the most potential to make the investigation go muchmuch better).

Cold Case: 35% + 13% (Garrick) = Base 48%

Oh! Also! Scorecard update!

% Success Chances for this Plan (for questers to Apply Omake Bonuses to):

Hey @Questor, can you please apply my +10 from 'Crushing It (in Imperial Accounting)' to Spying on the Stars? Thank you! <333
I just remembered that Imposter Syndrome hasn't been used yet. And we have some perfectly good Learning and Subterfuge actions to spend it on. :)

@Questor , can I put my +10 from Imposter Syndrome into this Crystal Rune Replication? Thanks!

That should put us up to 98% on that action. Looks like it's time for some crystal pony grad students much like Swift Mind to start doing some magic research.

Thanks, @Markala

That means, that without any omake boni or stuff we might get after this turn, "Cold Case" is almost literally a coin flip in terms of success...Have to remember that one

Again, the score so far! Updated! There's still time to apply thy Omakes! <3

% Success Chances for this Plan (for questers to Apply Omake Bonuses to):
MARTIAL:

Military Advisors 70% + 14% (Garrick) + 10 ('Crystal Clear Glass' by FictionPack) = Base 94%
(1/2 Max Omake Bonuses Applied)

LEARNING:
Crystal Rune Replication: 70% + 18% (Garrick) + 10 ('Imposter Syndrome' by Sentient Tree) = Base 98%
(1/2 Max Omake Bonuses Applied)

Arcane Agricultural Practices: 65% + 18% (Garrick) = Base 83%
(0/2 Max Omake Bonuses Applied)

INTRIGUE:
Spying on the Stars: 60% + 13% (Garrick) + 10 ('Crushing It (in Imperial Accounting)' by Markala) = Base 83%
(1/2 Max Omake Bonuses Applied)
