Boney might decide to veto it until a later turn because our ambient levels of Panoramia are pretty high already (social action and regular action last turn, looking like a regular action this turn too) and giving other characters some spotlight is good, but I'd really like a social action of "go visit Anton and introduce him and Panoramia." Anton is a good lad, it makes sense for Mathilde to introduce her romantic partner to some of her old friends, and we know it has significance to Anton because we read his mail back at the start of the quest and know he had an aunt who was a Jade. So there's lots of fodder for a scene bridging old and new, there.

The other social action I really want to take is "The Gold College, to see what's become of their research into Skaven technology." It's been two years since we sold our backlog to the Golds, let's see what they've made of it.

Panoramia is our S.O. While i wouldn't want DL to become Mat + Pan quest, I'm Ok with her getting more screentime than regular characters..

I agree that Adela is better in the gunnery school (in addition to the other reasons already said) because it gives the wizards an in at the school, and keeps the undumgi used to working with wizards. Adela's a good one for socializing non-wizards as her family commitments are very relatable to most people.

I still think we are better offering Johann a path at further advancement and selling into the Karak rather than running all over the world as basically out bodyguard, but I recognize that got no traction.

Changed vote for library location to just Kvinn-Wyr because while the coolness factor of the tower cannot be denied, having a mountain dedicated to knowledge- the central library and the inns, boarding houses, material suppliers (better to make paper and ink on location with transport costs high), tutors, small private schools, scribe training academies- I think fits better with the way the other mountains are described functionally. And it locks the library in as a foundational cornerstone of the Karak, rather than just a building inside it.

So: who are we going to hire for the library? All new cast of characters?

Interim vote, I guess. I can't find where the paper writing mechanics were officially explained, but someone said that there was a bonus for 'fresh' above and beyond merely "not faded/fading", meaning we can write papers this turn without really suffering for the malus. I don't see this turn as being particularly more opportune for doing dhar-risking research than say, next turn, so I'm wondering why people are treating it that way?

Anyways, I think a good case has been made for Wyr being the most defensible location, and that paired with its higher accessibility has it make the most sense to me. While it is not typical NOW for people to regularly use libraries, we don't want that to remain the case forever. Our goal isn't just to collate knowledge - it's to spread it, and making this a pit stop destination along a major trading route means it can be a visit of convenience for people who could benefit but don't realize it, simply because it's on the way. The same can't be said for putting it in the tower.

Here it is:
Note: Fresh and Refreshed papers confer a +10 bonus; faded ones a -10 malus.
Papers get one step less 'fresh' each turn: Fresh; Fading; Mostly Faded: Faded. Only the first and last have an effect on the diceroll.
In this case, freshness and our -10 cancel each other out to 0, making them equivalent to Fading and Mostly Faded.

I think the main reason the Tongs crew wants to do it this turn is that it isn't really a sort of research action we can fit into WEBMAT's half-actions (it is basically the precise opposite of interdisciplinary research) and our personal actions are going to be very valuable as we start our new job, so if we don't do it now it's unclear when we'll have time or will to do it. @SuperSonicSound, one of the major advocates for the action, has said that he doesn't even think the "is this even possible" initial action we have on the table will require a roll, the way other research actions we've taken haven't.

As for Dhar and potential miscasts, we have basically the best possible safety equipment: Kragg's belt and the Room of Oh Shit Fuck Goddamn Calamity, so I'm not really worried about the downside risk.

I want Anton's dad (and Anton) to come see K8P
Anton has been here once before, remember; he came for the sword ceremony six years ago. Granted, that was while the Karak was an active warzone and we didn't have an incredibly swagalicious penthouse setup to invite him to stay in, so the argument for "they should come here" has some points in favor. That said, I think I'd prefer visiting so that the scene's focus would be on the character interactions and dialogue rather than on showing off our home.

I wonder how Anton would react to our decor.

Pretty much yeah, Anton is not a good diplomat because he is good at diplomacy, he is a god diplomat because he is nice and people just can't not be nice back. :)
This was my reason for wanting to introduce Anton to Panoramia when he visited K8P, back in the days he had just started looking for love- they are both kind, caring people who genuinely want the best for everyone they meet. Add in the Jade Aunt thing, and I thought there was a very good chance they'd hit it off.

Now, well, that motivation doesn't quite apply in the same way…

Hmmm... if we want to go magitech, or if we really want Adela, we can also go for the big brain play.

Offer some joint research opportunities to the Gunnery school (when relevant). But oh no, nonmagisters cannot study magic under the articles, so if there is interest, Adela will have to act as a liaison.

Of course, that requires research intriguing for the gunnery school , and it means that we only have Adela while such research is ongoing, but it is an option.

It also requires engineers willing to risk their lives and souls messing with magic. I know we mostly hang around the cool kids who think sorcery is cool and Sigmar was a square for banning it and all but most people in the Empire, including most engineers would view experimenting with magic the way wizards would view experimenting with Warpstone.

I find it immensely funny that Matty considers "The most straightforward way" to explore Lhune to just randomly wander through there till she finds something...

Third priority: the search. Apart from your predecessor's notes, there's now also the archives to find. That would take a really big secret room, but a number of badly-printed books that circulated among the apprentices of the Colleges of Magic lead you to believe that castles like this are utterly riddled with secret rooms, passages, and devices, as well as describing in detail various torrid activities that may go on in them.

After thinking back on what tended to happen to plucky young female protagonists that went searching for secret passages in dark castles, you decide to wait for a day when Ulgu was strong, just in case. And to bring a few extra knives. Finally, on a day when the mists rolling through the streets were matched by the storm flashing overhead and grey magic was so thick in the air you could taste it, you went roaming through the castle, twisting every wall sconce and pushing every protruding brick.

Things get to a poor start when an overly enthusiastic twist leads to a wall sconce breaking off in your hand, scattering burning candle wax over the flagstones. You blow out the candle and place it gently on the floor, hoping whoever finds it thinks it fell on its own. Your prodding of suspicious-looking bricks doesn't break anything, but it doesn't get results either.

After several more days of fruitless searching, you're almost convinced that this castle is free of secrets when you notice that the doors for the servants' quarters you're currently haunting are placed in regular intervals, except for in one spot, where the place a door should be is occupied by an incongruous wall hanging. You triumphantly tear it down and find a door boarded up with rusty nails, and without even a moment's hesitation you begin levering out the nails with your knife and pulling the wooden planks free. You've finally found a secret of Eagle Castle!

And just as the last plank is pulled free, a secret of Eagle Castle finds you.
Historically, it's worked out for her.
