Anyone else think that the Protector side of the coin is really weird, compared to the others?

The Gambler: You'll gamble better!

The Night Prowler: You'll sneak better!

The Deciever: You'll lie better!

The Protector: You'll damn well get the credit!
That's the wrong way to look at it.

Using the Gambler encourages taking very risky actions, I.E. making a gamble.
Similarly, both the Night Prowler, the Deceiver and the Protector straight up don't work unless you don't do some prowling, lying or protecting respectively.

Each face of the coin encourages some sort behaviour that Ranald would like, actively rewarding the holder for acting according to His will. The Protector fits in perfectly with this.

Yeah, I guess the coin paid Ranalds' subscription fee to watch the ongoing Shenanigans of Mathilde Weber, 36 1/2. Or his Executive Producer sponsorship of the higher-budget-tier production in recent seasons.

being able to report on an elven civil war would be helpful in the sense that it's information that the Dawi do not have, and also there's a schadenfreude of "heh. They're also on the decline with a splinter branch fuckin things up. Not so moral high ground now are ya?"
I'm quite sure the Karaz Ankor has figured it out since then, or at least that the Druchii are a thing, because Barak Varr.

I'm honestly not surprised Protector's effect is so strong in Vlag's case. It's not everyday Chaos gets dunked on in such spectacular fashion and I'm sure Ranald wants everyone to know about it.

Anyone ever wonder what Ranald the Magician would have been like, and what the repercussions would have been?
Honestly i would have prefered it, coin and Manfred are pretty awesome, but having an active divine backing the magical folk would have been cool, even if it is Ranald.
College interaction notwithstanding, having a divine attention on all the magic folk to fight against the dark cults and necromancy would have been a huge boon.
Of course, there would have also been trouble with the Colleges having a cult, with all the backside a cult will have, depending on how well he will integrate there.

Perhaps a man carrying a staff, his face shadowed by the hood of a dark cloak, who always appears just when and where he is needed to give just the right advice or trinket to make a crucial difference, or to play some devastatingly cunning trick on a deserving foe.

Or - plot twist! - Ranald is in the process of growing an aspect as The Magician, and it's Mathilde Weber.

Ranald a true bro, he decided to not take the Magician Aspect to let Mathilde have her fair shot at true apotheosis.

Obviously the solution is to just make a new deity.

Witness the birth of the Divine Mathilde Weber! Goddess of Greatswording, Necromancers and Being Better Than Sigmar!

He likely wouldn't have gotten the -10(Not Their Idiom) modifier, but a +10(opposing an enemy of magic) modifier instead :p

We also might have not gotten the Coin, because the power would've been used up in creating his new Aspect.
He also would probably be able to directly empower us, since we're a Wizard. Which would be nice.

Having the god of luck with a direct(near enough) connection to the wizards, who need it the most to tip the scale with their magic, with their miscasts an all.
Wouldn't have been surprised that part of his passive boons would have been assistance against miscasts, which would have made him popular in the colleges like a barnhouse and a fire.

...And also made all the wizards even more mysterious and smug, but that's an upside as far as i'm concerned.

Sonningwiese is the fief of Dame Weber.

Not much there and Mathilde paid for some minor improvements before hiring a steward and basically giving him a bank account to spend on further improvements as he sees fit.

But a threadmark under Shortstory revealed that one of the locals was a veteran of the Haunted Hills and Drakenhof campaign. As a result of his stories, the Dämmerlichtreiter is now a very popular figure to play make-believe as during the children's free time.

I say the children of Sonningwiese, and especially the little girls, deserve more stories.

Mandred Grosherde's first name was a relic of events surrounding his birth- rats had gotten into the larder, and his mother had named him after the Ratslayer in a fit of pique. He did not use his last very much- it was the result of when merchants from the Stirlandian League had conducted a...

Mathilde could win the award for 'most awesome lord ever' by basically ignoring them except for when she rolls into the village with a few wagons of dwarf-made gifts and supplies and throws a big party where she tells stories of her adventures with magic illustrations. There could be toys for the children, and tools, fabric, and casks of Bugman's Best for the adults.

Wow Thorgrimm showing why even with all our issues with him deserves to be High King. Very dwarfy diplomacy. And Jesus Ranald. Ranald. This is getting a bit too much. Is Heidi feeling lonely yet?

I'd like to suggest a possible paper, both for the Colleges and the Karaz Ankor libraries:
-"The Right Way to travel the Chaos Wastes" by Mathilde Weber

Think about it. For every loss we took to the ground, no major losses were taken in the Wastes themselves. The expedition with the Dwarf Land Tanks and Rite of Way is too fast for any big number of Chaos Tribes, which just leaves actual Deamon Warbands (very rare) or individual nasties. Those nasty monsters would have been the death of Mat on her shadowhorse, or a threat to even Deathfang, but they aren't the type to attack multiple dwarven tanks with cannon and dragon and wizard support.

So with those Dwarf Steam Tanks and Rite of Way we outrun anything big, and outfight anything fast enough to catch us, with the sole exception of actual demon warbands, which need to be deeper in, or in constant combat, to survive anyhow.

Sure, our destination was a disappointment, but the Expedition itself was a smashing success. After all, we went into the Chaos Wastes and came back out again without so much as a fight!
Just have a genius Dwarf Engineer and Lady Magister in your Expedition! That's what I do, and it works for me
Sigmar probably gets like... 1/8 credit for everything Mathilde does for the Dawi.
No, that's Guild Dues.

The gambler is about taking risks better, which thematically is close enough.

And my point is that the Protector doesn't actually do anything to make it easier to protect people. Like, I might have expected a bonus like "You will have an inherent sense of where your abilities can be best used to protect the most innocents" or "rolls made to protect innocents get a +X bonus"

Something like that.
Ranald: A Little Unclear About How Protecting Works. But He Tries, Bless Him.

I just realised that with the dwarves declaring Mathilde legally a dwarf, if Mathilde continues to accomplish crazy shit at the rate she has been doing them (like say retaking Karak Drazh using Grey Wizard shenanigans or something) man forget becoming a goddess, she might instead end up becoming a Ancestor-Goddess if her rep goes high enough to eclipse Sigmar's rep.

Ranald would get to boast that he snuck someone ELSE into the Dwarven pantheon, he would be infinitely smug holy shit.

Also what would the [RUNE OF MATHILDE] do I wonder?

hey @BoneyM

What level of things would Mathy need to accomplish at this point to eclipse Sigmar in Dwarf rep?

Like is it for instance outright neccesary for Mathilde to kill a everchosen (assuming Archaon or someone else still shows up at some point in the future) or Nagash when he eventually comes back (as he has done like what, 5 times already? Or some shit like that)

Or would it be sufficient if Mathilde somehow reclaimed like, I dunno another 6 major holds?

PS. The most realistic way I can see Mathilde actually reclaiming that many dwarf holds, (Or any more Dwarf holds at all for that matter) would be to goad the greenskins in a major fallen dwarf hold (Like Karak Drazh) into attacking K8P in a massive WAAAGH!!! Only for said invading army to be bitch slapped into oblivion by the Eye of Gazul, and then just quickly conquer the place after it's defenders got severely depleted.

Like if the dwarves were better prepared for it, we probably could have taken back Karak Drazh after WAAAGH!!! Birdmuncha depleted it's defenders.

Guild dues would be granting Teclis favour for making the goldmine that is the united colleges.
"If you dig a mine and get fifty cartloads of muck and one fistful of gold," Ulthar said thoughtfully. "What you've got there is a gold mine."

"Hmph," said Kragg again. But there was no arguing with a good mining metaphor.
Not very complimentary of you to compare our assembled colleagues to cartloads of muck.
