Gotrek may be dead, but just as likely, this is divine meddling to get him the axe:

From: Gotrek and Felix
His signature weapon is an ancient, enchanted Dwarfen axe, known as the Axe of Runemasters. Gotrek gained this weapon during his first expedition to Karag Dum, finding it in a cave near the edge of the Chaos Wastes, near a dwarf corpse, later revealed to be the son of King Thangrim Firebeard, Morekai.
Ah, the "never found the body" trope. ...I don't remember--has it turned up in this quest yet?

@BoneyM It's been confirmed that Rite of Way can't help here, because the mechanism it uses for detecting "need to put a Skywalk here" doesn't work in this scenario. What's the likelihood that we (as in, the Expedition's Wizards) could help with navigating the narrower road by casting Skywalk "manually" as it were? I'm not sure who knows the spell out of everybody, but based on the update it seems like at least the Light Choir know it, and we did just get an illustration of how good they are at coordinating their casting.

Regular Skywalk works on the caster, not on any given target.

She didn't find it. Unknown whether it's one of the unrecognizable bodies or if it fell elsewhere.

@BoneyM Would it be possible for Mathilde to go down and look for the body, or heres hoping living, around where he most likely would of fallen? Or is that just not possible at this time because Mathilde needs to rest to use Rite of Way?

I mean, the rolls Boney linked straight up say he died. Sure, we haven't seen the body, but I really wouldn't expect it.

On the other hand, there's now a free divine weapon that might need a new wielder. Mathilde's not good with axes, but we could maybe learn...

I think some people misunderstand the problem. Yes, we can get food from the Dolgan if we press forward, but the issue is carrying capacity. If we turn back now, we have a three week trek back to Kislev with only two weeks of food supplies. If we go to Karag Dum and don't find an intact dwarf hold, then we will have a four week journey back, still with at most two weeks of food.

I am not sure what to do, but we should understand the danger.
We can get food from the Dolgan on the way back as well.

The food situation has a chance of improving if we spend a few weeks traveling to Dum and back. The chances our steam wagons face get significantly worse. Without them, there is no food situation to improve.
If we lose all the steam wagons an accept a slower pace so that herds can keep up, we might hypothetically improve the food situation.

Can you imagine if deathfang died in the functional equivalent of a car accident? I kinda wanna read the Negaverse where this happens. In my head it has a similar tone to Pulp Fiction.

[X] Press on

This is not the portion of the journey where food is the biggest concern. We're past that point on the outgoing leg and we'd have to go through it either way on the return stretch.

Although I don't think it will make a big difference OOC, IC I think the odds of another big shipment of food coming in to —whatever the name of Chaos Dwarf place was— in the time since our last visit are low. Better to give them more time to restock.

To get a kickflip pistol, Dwarf Favour doesn't cut it. We need Zhufbar Favour. We would've gotten Zhufbar Favour if we brought back all of the wagons.
At a certain level of Dwarf Reputation, I'm pretty sure Zhufbar will let us buy a radical pistol.

What are you expecting such a pistol to look like, by-the-by? I assume you don't just mean a runed regular handgun?

If you consider how much Gotrek took on when he wanted to die, how much more would it take to kill him when he still wants to live?

There's a strong chance he died here, but also a small chance that his perceived failure here puts him on the path to going Slayer after he crawls out of the mountain.

[x] Turn back

If it was anyone but Gotrek (or Borek) that died or one of the other Steam Wagons we lost, I'd be voting to continue on. As it is, I don't feel comfortable continuing on. If we lose another wagon or suffer a major breakdown we're doomed.

Yay, 2020 is over!

2021 just two days in : Allow me to present myself! *Kills one of the fan favourite characters and potentially kills the entire expedition by destroying a chunk of the supplies and massively decreasing supply cap*
