A reusable bullet sounds like a hilarious and awesome way to work around some of the limitations on particular runes. The trick is that you'd have to make it out of gromril and you'd have to spend two-ish runes on making it reusable - one for retrieval (something like the Rune of the Unknown or Flakkson's Rune of Seeking) and one for extra durability (in case you shoot a major demon or a gromril plate or something). Then you can put one more good solid rune on it, maybe a variant on Kragg's Master Rune or an antimagic effect or something. The best part is, since ammunition is normally disposable, a master-quality reusable bullet would be a strict improvement over normal ammo in the eyes of the dwarves!

[] Journeyman Cyrston von Danling

Even if we don't investigate him, I'd think that Horstmann already somewhat keeps a tab on him and other wizards. Perhaps we should ask him to do so if he isn't already.
"Hysh demands a centred mind even when circumstances don't. Don't worry about us, Lady Magister. Personally, my concerns are on Alexandra and Cyrston, and to a lesser extent the Ambers."

"It won't be the first time the Ambers, or the rest of the Knights, have ventured into tainted land. But I agree with you about the other two."

"I'll keep an eye on them when it's not on my three. Being watched from both the light and the shadow should keep them on the right path."
He said he'd keep an eye on them, but he was focusing on the choir.

I think it is much more important for us to put any effort into keeping tabs on our Journeymen -- the most vulnerable ones with the least experience with their magic -- than it is for us to double up on the job that the Knights of Taal's Fury are doing. I have tons of confidence in them: they wear armor and demigryphs are faster than steppe horses. If the Iron Wolves try to take potshots at us, we have giant METAL BAWKSES that arrows will just plink off of. If they group up and attack in force, we have Asarnil, Deathfang, and wizards. If we don't bother them, I can't imagine them causing significant trouble for us: would you want to fuck with six superheavy armored personnel carriers, guarded by monstrous cavalry and atop one of which there's a fucking dragon? No, you'd mind your business and wait for a softer target.

We don't need to duplicate the Knights of Taal's Fury's work. We've already got people on this expedition whose whole job is scouting. What we don't have is someone keeping tabs on the non-Light journeymen, since I imagine Horstmann's attention is mostly on his choir, especially Barbitus, after Karak Vlag. If Mathilde doesn't do it, there's no guarantee it gets done.

I find him suspicious. Yeah, there were Green is sus! jokes after his introduction, but his explanation of 'Don't worry about my magic getting more powerful as summer approaches and we coincidentally head into the Chaos Wastes, that's just my seasonal attunement acting up' is awfully convenient for him.
Now, one might say "but wait, this is a canonical character and is totally legit there," to which I would point out that we're on an expedition to Karag Dum with Egrimm van Horstmann and we have been actively told not to assume either of these work the same way they do in canon, and that's not even considering the notion that this might not really be Cyrston von Danling and might just be using his name.
We shouldn't metagame our way into false confidence. I'd like to check out both of the journeymen before we get to Dum, but I am less concerned about Alexandra than I am about Cyrston -- and I really want to be sure we get Cyrston this week, because then if we turn up some reason to be suspicious, we'll have time to take a second action on him before we reach Dum, where that isn't possible if we save him for the final week.

For the people worrying about Tzeentch-daemons, I would like to point out that even if Moulder or the Dawi Zharr didn't get them, we have left them far behind:
Did we?
Screamers and Discs of Tzeentch and Lords of Change can all fly; Discs of Tzeentch even carry passengers. And thats without considering what magics it has in play. I really would not think it wise to make assumptions about the strategic mobility of a Greater Daemon-class sorcerer and its warband.

I mean, I hope you're right. I just have my doubts.

It would be very weird for them, after heading south into skaven territory and getting into at least one tussle there, to randomly pick northeast as the direction to fly in and head straight to us. You'd expect them to stay near the skaven, so as to have sacrifices to maintain their presence in the world, or if they got driven off and need to scarper, fly either due north (towards the Wastes as quickly as possible) or further south towards Chorf land for sacrifices etc. Flying northeast over a barren wasteland and intersecting us here and now is just... not plausible.

My point is that we are currently far to their northeast, and traveling further north and east, whereas they went south away from us, which is kind of evidence against the "on a Tzeentchian mission to fuck with us specifically" hypothesis which would cause them to beeline for us. The evidence suggests that they're up to something else, which we very well might have to deal with on our way back, but which we shouldn't worry about for short-term planning.

We really should try to get some understanding on the ice granny before we go and heist that mug or whatever it was we were heisting.

That sounds interesting to see. Reason enough.

It's not barren - the as-the-crow-flies straight line route between their purported positions and the steam-wagons crosses the lake and river system that Karak Vlag's rangers were mentioned as having charted, and as the water was noted to be potable there is most certainly assorted vegetation and scrubland wildlife there. /pedant

Also, it's worth noting that the two consecutive actions the Plotter-daemons have been confirmed to have taken are indirect attacks on the expedition - first they raided/burned/tainted material supplies stockpiled for the Expedition to pick up, and then they attacked the Skaven in such a way as to create a chain reaction that would result in Chorf-on-Skaven violence picking up in our area as we were passing through.

It's a little paranoid, but pattern-matching would in fact suggest that they'll do something more to act against the Expedition, only thrice-removed instead of once or twice removed. Of course, this does mean I technically agree with you that they aren't gonna show up and attack us - I just don't think that that necessarily makes them a non-factor.

Also, fuck Tzeentch right in its ear, because I started writing up this post pretty certain you were right and just letting out my inner pedant - but now I've actually managed to construct a plausibly in-character dubious Rube Goldberg-esque series of mechanisms to explain their otherwise innocuous actions as being part of a nefarious plan to torpedo the Expedition. I want to get off of this wild ride down the rabbit-hole now, please and thank you.

We weren't passing through, though; I mean, Mathilde herself was, yes, because she specifically came to look at the skaven, but not the expedition. The expedition was over a hundred miles away, on the Skull Road, completely safe from the escalation in Moulder-Chorf conflict. They started a fight in Philadelphia while the steam wagons were in New York City: sure, Mathilde was in the neighborhood when a couple of punks got up to no good, but that has no impact on the safety of the expedition as a whole, and is certainly no reason to move in with our uncle and aunt in Bel-Air.

That went to kind of a weird place, but I hope my point about the geography is clear: them ruining our food stores sucks, but that was on the way for them. They then went south while we went east. Every day draws us farther apart.

Everything is a Tzeentch plot, but it's no use worrying about it. Because everything is also his goal so in the end it all sort of cancels out. Tzeentch doesn't care if we succeed or fail so long as he can claim it is all according to plan.

I mean the Tzeentch demons might have destroyed our supply cash, but I give it good odds that another plot got us the salted meat.

Eeeeeh. Tzeentch himself, everything is just leading into another plot without an ultimate goal. Tzeentchian individuals will usually have plots that actually do have discrete goals working towards a specific agenda, and that includes his demons despite their individual status coming with an asterisk.
