Something occurs to me, if we are going to Chaos Vegas, could we sell the information we get from the Combes? we know the language and might get something the chaos dwarfs don't know about.
I'd honestly rather the Skaven had the upper hand here - at least they're a mostly self-defeating awful. I'm not too fussed about handing the Chaos Dwarves money because they're already filthy rich, and they worship a god that demands amassing as much wealth as possible so they'll just throw it into their big money pits for the sake of "having" it, rather than it ever actually being used to fund their activities in a meaningful fashion.

Giving them actionable intelligence about their nearby foes feels way more ethically gross.

On what do you base that? The Chaos Dwarfs are a regional problem, the Skaven are global. I don't want to do it either, because it would take too long and require drawing too much attention to establish our bona fides, but I don't get this argument.

Speaking of which, I want to pick up some Chaos Dwarf books on Skaven while we're here. I doubt buying information on their enemies is going to be too much of an issue.

I'm trying to find the image containing a chart of how Warhammer languages are connected, does anyone remember where I should look? Doesn't seem to be in Media/Informational, at first glance.

[X] Visit Uzkulak, the Chaos Dwarf equivalent to Barak Varr

[X] Thane Borek Forkbeard
[X] Head Engineer Gotrek Gurnisson
[X] Head Ranger Snorri Farstrider

[X] Visit the combes that Qrech told you about

Yeah, changes my mind on the Combes, let's check if they have something we can trade for chips.

The Moulder outposts are a regional problem. Finding intelligence that could meaningfully effect the Skaven globally and handing it over to the Dawi Zharr was never on the table.

And sure, I'd be down for buying insight into how the Dawi Zharr see their foes.

Having information on both sides of the coin might come in handy in other ways but selling information I think would probably be too difficult for dubious rewards. A more likely benefit from double dipping seems something along the lines of looting a skaven intelligence breakdown of the power structures in Uzkulak, so we're more effective when we go there.

Collection of Important information threadmark, languages of the world spoiler.

Hmmm we could potentially pick up books for several of those languages. Which will be interesting if we can figure out the old one language through all the other ones.

Both options seem good to me tbh.

Getting to know the leaders is important in the long run for when they get to hell and probably have to get people onboard for some hard choices, but the way to and from hell is heavily hinted to be a war zone between the skaven and the chaos dwarfs , so getting a look at them and their territory helps too.

@BoneyM random question, but we're any empire officials directly alerted to Vlag's return, or did the messengers we sent only tell the dwarves and Kislev? I'm sure word would get to them eventually, of course, but i'm mostly curious on how long, exactly, it would take, and whether they learn it through the grapevine or an official report.

Grapevine. The Empire never really had much business with Karak Vlag, since they're on the other side of Kislev.

Fair enough. I wonder what Algard will have to say when he hears... or better yet, Heidi. Granted, she probably got filled in by Ranald, but still. Eh, Algard's probably just glad they actually gave us the Lord Magister title.

They'll hear rumours through the grapevine, and later whoever has clearance can get the juicy details when we publish our paper on our findings.

How classified would that paper be, I wonder? The dwarf waystone network bit would be kept hidden except for the real high ranks, but that seems like it could be covered by only a partial redaction, so the rest should be accessible with "only" the usual clearance for anything related to chaos?

Anything about moving between Warp and reality is always classified pretty heavily.

On an Empress level, I'd imagine Heidi would be at a cool thumbs up and casually saying nice. Like, she'd play up how proud she is of Mattie and how happy she is for the Dawi cause she'd wanna talk us up and maintain good realtions with the Dawi, but it's not honestly a huge deal for the Empire or something that'll ever really affect her.

It's nice, but it's a little too far away/disconnected from the Empire for her to care that much .... as Empress.

As, you know, #TeamRanaldGeneralManager and someone who actually likes us, super stoked, we stole a mountain/city, how cool is that. Radical.

At least, I'm assuming, I don't know, I'm not the GM or Heidi.

Oh look, another paper with no name on it! We seem to have a lot of those, don't we?

No, I'm pretty sure our name will be on it, if only because Vlag coming back is hard to hide and Lord Magister Mathilde Weber going on that expedition is a known fact. Trying to describe Vlag's return in an anonymous paper is thus kind of pointless.

It'll just be classified so high that only like 12 people can read it and everyone else will have to be satisfied with reading the title.

I was mostly joking... Though we've also got a couple papers—or book—like that as well.

If most people are only going to read the title, we should start workshopping as cool a title as possible.

We aren't going to one-up Boney's paragon of titling in Waaagh and Peace, but surely we can think of something!

#TeamRanaldGeneralManager

My interpretation of Ranald as a Sports team, if anyone cares.

Ranald, obviously, the owner. He named the team after himself because he has an ego, but as we've see numerous examples of Mattie would definitely do the same. Good for him.

I'm assuming that Mattie is the current MVP. She's also a friend so she gets special allowance to basically do almost whatever she feels like, due to the power of nepotism. She's the type of player that doesn't usually get MVP for a team though in that she doesn't ... really interact much with what the rest of the team is doing, she just sort of does her own thing off to the side and it works out. The closest analogy I can think of is that she's, like, if this was an NFL American football team, she's the kicker. What she does is super valuable, it's just not what 90% of the rest of the game is like and the rest of the team doesn't see her too often on the field.

Heidi is .... as far as I'm aware there's no real concept of "secret general manager", but that. She's the highest authority and Ranald and her collaborate on the overall, long term future, goals, strategies, and projects of the team .... but most people don't know she's associated with the team at all.

Now, I think at some point it was confirmed that a representative of the Church does go to the Grand Conclave .... so my main question is "is there a publicly recognized head of the church, and is that the same person who goes to the Grand Conclave?"
If their the same person .... Head Coach of the team. If their different people ..... The public head of the church would be the coach, and the representative to the Conclave would be .... can't think of a sports term, so either the Press Secretary or the representative to the UN. The sports analogy has failed me, maybe, depending on if I'm talking about two people or one.

We don't know enough about the Ranaldian Church as a whole for me to go any further with this metaphor.

There isn't really a Ranaldian church. Both because Ranaldians are intrinsically difficult to organise, and because anything that did manage to form would be enthusiastically broken up by anyone in the Empire with power. Congregations just tend to self-organise around anyone charismatic and pious.

I'd expect the Ranaldian church to be more a bunch of roughly horizontal cells than anything else. You can sort of rank people based on how much of Ranald's favor they have, but trying to use said "rank" to order other Ranaldites around is the sort of thing that causes you to very rapidly lose Ranald's favour, so I don't expect it happens much if at all.
