I'm surprised there wasn't more concern from the other councilors about dooming any possible survivors. I figured at least one would advocate not doing anything for now and come back with all the equipment and support staff Mathilde needs to do the job properly. If they are still alive after 185 years the chances of dying in the next five are arguably less than that of un mooring Karak Vlag from reality.
 
Sorry maybe I'm missing something but with a dragon's mobility why wouldn't they be good at the run part?

Would it be possible for the demons to simply un-clog the Waystone if we don't fortify? They do have some sort of powerful sorcerer, after all.
@BoneyM, would the "fortify the road" option mean blocking the road to the Waystone, or would it mean blocking the road to Kislev? Or is that the same road?

Mathilde addressed that, without the stream of magic to point to where the waystone is it'd be damn hard to find, impossible in the time limits the daemons would be operating under.

I think the Fortify the Road to Kislev has the best mix of Tactical Advantage, Morality and expedition preserving pragmatism.

Fortifying the Karak Entrance leaves the expedition directly in the way of what could be a miniature incursion.

Sending a message west and buggering off would make us responsable for a few days of carnage

The road will have us being able to catch the majority of the demons, and give us enough time to see them coming and plan (as opposed to enemies popping out of a dark tunnel).

Point is to delay as demons as long as possible, and prevent demon host coming at expedition in force. This could buy a bit of time until demons remove the debris.

Another question in regard of Asarnil - dragons fly fast. Would Deathfang not be better way to harass demon if they run toward Kislev? Given aerial superiority, is seems possible that Deathfang could anihilate them with few passes, or force them to cover out of fear of dragonfire. Simply put, not necessarily harass demon host over whole way to Kislev, but potentially force them to slow down or cover near Vlag.

Does anyone in expedition knows where potential other entrance to Vlag may be?

If noone knows (which it almost guaranteed), thorough scouting would be crucial. Demons sneaking and attacking from the back would be disastrous. Scouting required to find any demonic sally from unexpected angle.

I don't want to leave this unfinished. But I also don't want to risk the wagons because if they get damaged by an unlucky dice it is over for the expedition. There is significantly more danger in this option but I think we can hack it. Plus it might be a warmup for what is to come.

Snorri shakes his head. "Dwarfholds have many hidden entrances to prevent that tactic from being used against us, and they are not hidden from the inside. The Daemons would be able to find them, and we would not."

I think Asarnil's reputation is being inflated. These are daemons, of which those daemonettes were the very least. Asarnil and Deathfang will die if they try to fight any substantial force without backup.

They were designed to be impossible to find from the outside.
 
I don't feel safe leaving the Waystone undefended. If it's clogged up, it's a free dhar dispenser which I worry could be of use to the daemons right now. At the same time, I do not want to leave the Karak proper unattended in case that there are indeed still survivors fighting on inside.

About the harrying idea: We have Melkoth's Mystifying Miasma, with reduced difficulty thanks to the Staff of MISTery. One of it's explicit effects is that it slows down enemies and boggles their minds. Might be a better alternative to letting the Winter Wolves do their hit and run. Or alternatively combine the two, since monster cavalry charge + slowed & confused enemies should be a great combination.

Chain casting is dangerous, but the thought of just repeatedly casting Melkoth's Miasma on the entrance and scything down the disoriented daemons in a fusillade of cannon fire as they emerge pleases me.

I have to admit, I'm curious why Gotrek isn't in support of this. It is fighting them from a fortified position.

He'd rather fight them coming out of a bottleneck than withdraw down the road and risk them finding a way to flank the fortifications.

What Mathilde will be doing is to be voted on later, but her soloing a daemonic army falls apart if they split up or if they have any spellcasters or flyers at all with them.

So...I imagine that whether or not there are any survivors will be determined by a dice roll by Boney before the next post. But if there ARE survivors...christ, Mathilde's rep with the Karaz Ankor would skyrocket. To play a vital role in reclaiming a long-lost Karak is an epic achievement. To singlehandedly find out the fate of a vanished hold, bring that hold back into reality, and potentially save the survivors that have been under siege directly from Chaos for two hundred years?

It'd also make King Belegar's rep increase substantially, given that his contributions to the expedition were the Winter Wolves...and Mathilde (plus some of her ducklings).

Anyway, I think using the steam wagons to fortify the entrance--directly or from a distance--is needlessly risky if the only human population that the daemons could reach is somewhere 150 miles to the west.
