Something to keep in mind. We cannot mass produce it due to the way wizardry works, and Dwarfs cannot use magic, but if we ever find a strong heroic unit, giving it a replica of our suit could act as a force multiplier for our armies, considering how heroic units tend to pivot battles....
He said that non-Ulgu Wizards probably wouldn't fight well in it.

Also, the big point of a Journey is to prove their independence. Giving them powerful defensive enchantments defeats the purpose and breeds bad habits.

On the other hand, Magisters, especially newly minted ones, would not be shy about getting some. The issue is the tiny market, and Magisterial pride may refuse hand me downs.
Adventurers and mercenaries might be in the market for enchanted items, but they wouldn't wear a Grey Wizard robe

So pretty much the only way to actually get anything out of old robes would be to flog it for cheap to Perpetuals, though I don't think they'd NEED plate mail grade robes....or maybe our own apprentices, to whom we could equip however we see fit.

The Bright College seems to be fine with it, what with Doomfire Rings. Granted, "Fireball" doesn't provide that much extra utility, but it's still of a higher tier than Aethyric Armour.

"You buried them appropriately?" You nod. "Good. Almost certainly it was not one of ours, but still." He inspects the ring again, this time in admiration. "The puissance of these artifacts is, perhaps, less than one might expect from something crafted by those under Teclis," he observes, the rubies shimmering in the firelight. "But they were never meant to turn the tide of wars single-handedly. What they represent is protection for our most vulnerable members as they venture out into the world, and handed down to another as each reaches Magisterial rank. If it means that just one more wizard reaches the prime of their career instead of dying to the trials of their journeying... well, what more potent effect could you ask of an enchantment?" You nod in agreement. "You've returned a prized relic to us, and the Bright Order repays its debts."

*snip*

"Thank you," he replies, "for the apprentices that now stand a greater chance of surviving their journeys."

I'm totally fine with saving our old robes in the closet, but it seems odd to claim that the Colleges wouldn't give them stuff if they could.

Well frankly I disagree with your conclusion that giving journeymen wizards powerful defensive enchanted equipment would be defeating the purpose. Journeymen are sent out to gain experience in the world and do good and to come back seasoned by their experiences. Yes giving them a powerful defensive enchantment makes them safer and means they aren't in as much physical danger but like so what?

The world is practically a death world. There are less than a hundred journeymen for each order of magic and whilst them not having the opportunity to master AA if they have that available would be a lost opportunity that's small potatoes ultimately to more journeymen actually surviving.

The Bright college seem to have their heads screwed on better.

I'd say that the main customers for clothes enchanted with tireless Aethyric Armour might actually be the the Imperial Spymaster.

Are people unhappy with the robes enchantment? What's all this talk about doing it again and giving away our "old robes". (What old robes? These are the only enchanted robes we have. Are we anticipating enchanting more robes?$

I mean, I wanted a muti wind robe from the get go.

and now that 'permanent mastery' is going to be even harder because of the low roll, I'm taking my chance to get some real bling.

The 'old robes' would be the ones we enchanted back in Wurtbad. They were referenced in the update, the near-decade-old slightly-worn ones.

We already had an enchanted set, these are new. I was also hoping to get the tirelessness always on, but it's still good.

Clearly what we need is better materials to craft from.

CYTHON! A dragon as powerful and magnificent as you doesn't need all of their tail, right?

I'm for trying to make a new (i.e. third) set of robes in five to eight turns from now. When silk is available, and we have enough college favor to comfortably buy another power stone. And hopefully we have one or two cool reagents to throw into the pile.

But for now I'm just enjoying the theorycrafting.

These are not the only enchanted robes we have. We made a set for the first expedition to K8P after Drakenhof. The new ones are a disappointment compared to what a better roll could've gotten us. Doing it again isn't viable in the short run, but definitely something to look at for future upgrades.

This is the second time we've enchanted robes. The previous pair weren't as good.

Also, just to freak out everyone: my guess for why Karak Hirn's heirs killed each other? The third heir, a ranger with access to the black lotus poison, snuck up, slightly poisoned one (or maybe all of them?) so he went into a fury, causing them all to kill each other.

Ordinarily this would be crazy, but this is a ranger dwarf. I could see it if he thought that he was the only possible solution to lead Karak Hirn.

He had motive, a MO that somewhat matches, and maybe opportunity if he was nearby.

Yeah, in the far future we might want a new set of robes (when we hit Magic 10 and the next breakpoint for Aethyric Armour, for instance, and We silk is available), but these are certainly good enough for now. Always-on Mastery would have been nice, but 15-90 minutes is pretty good for practical purposes.

We'll see how impactful having the Mastery available for long periods of time is. If it proves narratively significant, then we'll want to go for that in our down-the-line set too. If it doesn't end up mattering, then maybe we'll do Windherder instead. Too soon to be sure; there's a lot of stuff between now and then, and after the KD expedition I really want to drop a ton of actions on our research trees.
Wasn't that Chamberlain of the Seal?
Yes. But there is no official Imperial Spymaster; one popular guess in the thread is that the Imperial external diplo adviser (Chamberlain) doubles as the external intrigue adviser (Spymaster), and likewise for the internal diplo adviser.

Didn't they kill each other while Ulthar was at K8P ?
