We've been told that if Mathilde dies we'll get to retroactively write her will. So to not include something about the boon would be a deliberate choice by the playerbase, and I don't see either us or Mathilde making that odd choice.
I'm asking more to better understand Belegar, Dwarven society and traditions and inheritance in general than to specifically predict what BoneyM will write in case we die up north.

Speaking of, does anyone remember what the legal status of Karag Nar's Temple/Inn to Ranald is? If I recall correctly the Penthouse literally belongs to Mathilde on paper (as opposed to a lifelong lease), something that Dwarves rarely do for outsiders. I dimly recall something similar being mentioned during or after the vote about where to establish the initial Ranald shrine, but I am much less sure regarding my memories there.

Another cycle of Dwarven paperwork has made you almost gleeful to escape the Karak, and as your transport makes its way over mountains you look forlornly down at your still-aching hand. Your permanent ownership of the location required one set of papers, and that it was to be a religious site was another set of papers, and that it might be a site where alcohol was to be drunk was an equally formidable set, the Dwarves taking drinking almost as seriously as religion. That the site could be both a Shrine and a Tavern was not a problem, as apparently Temples to Valaya in her aspect as the Ancestor Goddess of Brewing were quite similar.

Permanently owned by Mathilde.

[X] A Scenic Hike

It is funny every time I see this option my first instinct is "I would dump anyone who tried to make me go on a hike as a date with them" then my second is "Wait this isn't me their are people who would actually enjoy Hiking as a date."

So in summary any people who like to go on hikes as a date are god damn crazy wizards drawing power from the realm of mad gods, enjoy your hike you two.

If we were to die before claiming the boon (and don't include a clause regarding it in our will either), how would King Belegar handle that?
The best thing to do would be to find out she has/had the Liber Mortis, then give it to one of the other wizardlings so they could bring her back and Belegar can ask her what she'd like posthumously.

... Of course, he is a dwarf, so he might not pick the perfectly logical course of action that every rational individual would take( what Omegahugger wants him to do) .

So this is interesting:
I've heard there's two in the Dark Lands, but never been curious enough to go poking around there. Terrible place.
"Whiskers and warpstone? Oh yes. How many of those little messages are there, anyway?"

"A few. Most of the big ones you'll probably never need. There's a big one a bit further south from your current playground, but it's going on twenty-five centuries without a whisper and thank Sigmar for that. One's just a how-to-stop-a-Waystone-from-exploding that we keep tucked away so those Journeying don't get it into their heads to seek them out, but can still deal with one gone bad if they trip over it. There's one for if you're stupid enough to go to Lustria, one that basically says 'don't touch the mummy gold, idiot' after an overambitious twit came home proud as punch of a sceptre he'd stolen from a pyramid - we jumped into the fastest ship in Altdorf Harbour and nipped across the Sea of Claws and threw it in the general direction of the Skaelings, and a week later every sailor in Marienburg is telling stories about the Curse of Zandri wandering up and down the Norscan coast. I've heard there's two in the Dark Lands, but never been curious enough to go poking around there. Terrible place. Oh, one for the Blighted Marsh to say get the hell out of the Blighted Marsh without giving the full story." He scratches his chin in thought. "I think that's all the major ones. Or maybe just the ones I know about. Far as I know, the rest are all 'run away and call for help with this codeword' warnings for specific Black Magisters - problem with them is that so many of them end up blowing themselves up in some godforsaken nowhere, but we can't take them off the books because every now and then one will re-emerge after thirty years and start raising hell." He frowns. "What was I- oh yes, rats. Honestly the best advice I could give for those bastards is find some Dwarves and point them in the right direction. They know what they're doing."

"You're a font of wisdom," you grumble, and he smiles.

We're going to the Dark Lands for the expedition. Or at least, we'll be quite close. So we might see one of these stored messages.

And is the same true for the Penthouse as I remember or am I conflating things?
Once chosen, there'll be a great deal of paperwork to fill out. Those few manlings allowed to live in Dwarfholds are typically given 'only' a lifetime lease, and for you to have an actual permanent claim to what you've decided upon takes a lot of carefully-worded documents that basically say 'no really, we mean it, forever'.
Also permanently, though that was hidden better.

Random theory about the Alrik situation: could he be deliberately shaming himself, taking as much dishonour onto himself as possible, in order to distract from what happened to his sons? After all, the worse he looks the better the circumstances around their fate seem in comparison, and the more likely the blame for that is to shift onto him too. Essentially, could it be some weird attempt to protect or redeem his sons' reputations?

Well, law of averages would state that it would be something about or around Pigbarter and The Sentinels.

As they are the only places most journeyman will actually go and expect to survive more then an hour on their own.

Everywhere else would be wizards with a destination in mind.

@BoneyM If we were to die before claiming the boon (and don't include a clause regarding it in our will either), how would King Belegar handle that? I assume that if someone is to blame for our death the boon would go towards avenging us, but what if we just have a heart attack or something? Would King Belegar try to find our forgotten peasant family or would his relationship with us have made it clear that we consider, say, Regimand or the Grey College as a whole our rightful successors? Or would he just invest it in our legacy by consulting those who knew us best (including himself) or worse, carry it as an eternal burden of Clan Angrund?

Speaking of inheritance, could, based on Imperial Law, one of our biological siblings come out of the woodworks and lay claim to our little fiefdom by Sonnigwiese after our death (provided they remember their lost sister, notice the surname and have someone whose word is worth something backing their claim) or does a knight's fief go back to their liege anyway?

All as per Mathilde's will. Belegar knows that family/College/Empire doesn't neatly map onto Clan/Guild/Karak so he'd go by whatever Mathilde specified instead of trying to apply Dwarven norms.

Did we ever hear anything about who this is? We might be dealing with him if Wulfhart can't make it.

Someone high up enough in the Winter Wolves to be capable of the position, but not so high up as to be irreplaceable.

I feel like 'one of mathys siblings turning up' would have been a plot line if we had stayed in Stirland and get involved with stuff.

But mathy isn't really a person that anyone in the province knows details about.

I do wonder whatever happened to them tho, the parents can shoff it, but the kids shouldn't be hated for what happened.

All as per Mathilde's will.
And if Mathilde was an idiot without a Will? Or, to put it in more realistic terms, people like Johann or Gretel also got boons and I don't know if they are the type of people to leave elaborate wills for anyone. What about them?

I guess Belegar, being the sensible kind, would do inquiries to find out how all of their other known properties and real estate back in the Empire is being handled and just send a letter explaining the boon and it's origin in the same direction, provided what he seems doesn't seem overly shady or haphazard.

I'd expect that they're farther south, personally. I think the Plain of Bones might be one- a wizard hears that there's a bunch of dragon bones there, sees dollar signs in their eyes, ignores all the obvious dangers and goes in.

I noticed that both the Dragon and Melkoth chapters, both had the same mannerism of reading books with one eye while looking at another thing with the other.

This makes for a hilarious duckling reading club scene.

'Magisters and journeypeople, today we have two very special guests, in this corner is Melkoth of the eponymous spell, and in that spacially distorted corner is Cyton, the Emperor Dragon who might visit ocasionally for reading in the library. We will be discussing [blah blah]' while both the old man and the old dragon have a eye in profile looking to eachother while ostensibly holding open books.

Well, Weber is probably a quite common surname, but Mathilde is a Wizard by the name of Weber who got officially knighted, and a little Weber girl did in fact get taken away due to her Wizarding ways.
On top of that there's the Headman of Bidenhof, who knows our genealogy in enough detail to connect it to his own. He might easily have heard of our knighting and have enough common knowledge to know that such a thing usually comes with a piece of land. Should he hear of our death, I could easily see him be interested in becoming the guy who won his relative a fief.

Edit: That said, I still don't know if knightly fiefs can be legally inherited by lowborn family members that aren't even the knight's descendants.

He'd probably consult with their College and take it from there.

wonder if the reason Alrik's holding onto the throne is because he believes Ulthar to somehow be complicit in the murders?
He'd not revoked Ulthar's exile in that case.

After the expedition I think we should go to elf-land. If we're a bad enough dudette to handle the wastes we can handle Nagarythe without embarrassing ourselves.
Maybe not immediately. Even if everything goes well, it'll be a hella stressful trip (Expedition, I mean). And, probably, we'll return with a souvenir or ten to research. Also, most likely, would need to check everything after our absence.
I'd say a turn or two between Expedition and Vacation.

Did Alcadizzar escape the fate of his homeland and spend time in Mourkhain? You put the matter aside as something to investigate in the unlikely event you ever have more time than you have things to do.

Ok, here is something ancient and stale. Is there any point in writing a book about this or tomb raiding poor Alcadizzar no doubt horribly haunted tomb? The crown of sorcery is not there, and the fellblade is in skavenblight so you'd get at most some plot hooks of 'how to fuck nagash' variety or maybe some copies of books of nagash you don't dare read.

Maybe Settra would appreciate the last honorable dynast that fucked Nagash back home?!?

Diplomatic message: write the numismatic book with a note about the information about Alcadizzar and gift it to the court of Settra the [long list of titles].

Ahahah wonderful CHAOS

That exotic Nehekhara favor won't accumulate itself.

BTW, it's going to be hilarious when Mathilde is recognized as the most important gray wizard diplomat of the age because of all the foreign and exotic contacts in good standing, dwarfs, elves, dragons, possibly 'Nehekharians' in the future. Regimand is going to despair.

Does anyone who knows WHF better than me have a guess at what
