The "send a message" plan would be a lot safer if we'd thought to set up a secret code with Van Hal. We should do that later, you never know when you'll need to pass a covert message to your scary ex-Witch Hunter boss.

EDIT: At the very least we should've set up a phrase for "I need help and can't ask."

You say we noticed the greatswords, are we overlooking the courtyard?

No, you noticed them when you took a break from interviewing to get lunch about an hour ago.

Are there windows in the room we are in? Was the wall and door of room capable of containing the sound we (greatsword and scream) made?

Windowless, and unless someone was right outside the door it should have muffled the noise.

Remember, the cleared servants aren't confirmed cleared.
When you finished interviewing one person, you'd tell them to find the next person on your list and send them to you.
How do we not have even a single trusted and properly cleared servant-minion to have standing outside the door and completing minor tasks like running messages for us? Stop being a misanthropic loner crazy cat lady and get actual minions, Mathilde!

Going personally to Markus and then to the Count is kind of slow. We already successfully interviewed sixty servants and we're in an interrogation room, meaning that we've almost certainly got writing materials. Presumably no one was listening in on our polite interrogation. Before emerging in our bloodstained robe and running around in a panic, why not write up messages for all prominent individuals in the castle, then have some of those servants run them to the appropriate locations? Mindhole anyone who sees us that we haven't already interviewed while getting our messengers, but presumably some of them are conveniently located right here.

Heck, then we don't even have to leave the body; we can call Van Hal or Markus over to us so that they can identify its type and assist us in knowing how to identify further nasties.

Edit: An already-cleared servant could also be sent to fetch us new clothes. Or switch clothes with us. If we care deeply about appearances, and all.

We do have a time limit of how long it takes the castle grapevine to discover "Johann" never left interrogation, and considering how rumor approaches lightspeed and that the Mr. Hirsch was the first infiltrator we found, only due to personal information, not the first we interviewed- the answer is not long. If we try to maintain normality and hand everyone low-priority notes almost certainly someone's not going to have read it before the fungus people or whatever initiate their plans for being discovered. (So many 18th and 19th century military screw-ups have started with "leave it on my desk")

I think our best bet is to straight up raise the alarm as fast as we can, only then would we be afforded any degree of tactical surprise against the creatures, and this way we can more easily flush out the monster vis a vis the typical reaction to a surprise squad of Greatswords and Warrior-Priests marching towards you.

As a side-note, I got halfway through writing what happened to you from holding the death sword when it discharged before I remembered the Ranald's Gift bonus.

What if Johann has some buddies waiting around just to make sure he came out OK?

And are you thinking raise the alarm right away, or to get to the greatswords at least first?

So...Death? ;)

Hmm. Does the phrase 'Curiosity killed the cat' exist in the Empire?

No specific reason for asking.

Or, an actual Cat Minion.

A valid point, but so far their their covers and spycraft have proved themselves even in the face of a Van Hal. Part of being that good is never giving yourself the opportunity to make a mistake, to be anything but in character. Deviating from the script and offering enough to have your lies stand out is, as our late subject could attest, how you get burned. They would be taking a huge risk for anything but a look-out superstitiously doing their job, dismissible as part of the scenery.

We're dual class Mage 3/Thief 1, by now. All bases covered.

Also, don't forget to clean up the vomit in your plan.

Its listed under Stains no?

Anyways, heading to Marcus because...its practically routine, we've been bugging him for sword lessons for two years and usually bloody or bruised not too infrequently. Shouldn't raise the alarm that way

I think being covered in blood spray before seeking him out for a match is a little different from getting bruises or small cuts during practice.

If it isn't too time-consuming/noticeable, can we cast Aethyric Armor on ourself before we go out just in case?

[Also this is probably a hint that spells like Doppelganger/Take No Heed/etc. are actually very useful.]

Thinking about our infiltration techniques, we could call a servant in, Mindhole them and take their clothing, and then apologize later?

It was previously described as "the shadows lengthen, and then they throw themselves forward and wrap around your frame." Probably noticeable.

They might scream when they see the body.
