I can't recall, are we on a first-name basis with any of the Nordlanders in K8P? It was a bit of a plot point that the refugees flew under the radar compared to the Winter Wolves, but I'm not sure if Mathilde's gotten around to speaking with them directly about the experience.

I'm pretty sure the present trajectory is "things aren't great for salzemund specifically, but the damage is basically all already done, things aren't getting any worse at this point."
The impression I got was that Nordland was in kind of a recessionary spiral because it abruptly lost a bunch of primary industry fifteenish years ago and that has ripple effects; it's still got its urban core in the eastern part of the province, but the resources to feed its artisanal sectors are now more expensive because you can't take advantage of intra-provincial shipping, which means that over that time some of the secondary industry has undoubtedly had to close, which means that the services those craftsmen consume have suffered... This sort of exogenous supply shock might happen suddenly, but the economic consequences play out over decades.

That said, I'm going off not a whole lot more than vibes; Mathilde hasn't really investigated the question much. I guess we could always spend an EIC action on infiltrating Nordland and trying to figure out how bad the economic damage is; I'm not sanguine on our ability to infiltrate Nordland's political establishment given the EIC's low presence there, but getting a sense of the current state of the provincial economy and if it's arcing up, down, or just kind of getting by seems like it should be doable with our resources, and all of a sudden we don't have a bridge to sink turns into anymore.

There's always that EIC auditors division that still needs setting up, we could have her tag along on that.
Truth be told, one of the reasons I was glad that our selling ithilmar to Laurelorn ended up as a one-for-one purchase of the Library of Mournings was that however much got skimmed off the top in that once-in-a-lifetime abnormal purchase with no oversight didn't really matter - it got covered by the "expenses" part of "the library and expenses".

It (very debatably) ended up working out for the Empire there, as that extra cost was essentially taken from Laurelorn and given to various members of the EIC and its associates.

We could always give it to Eike.

We could always give it to Eike.
I mean, we could, but:
...Incidentally, @Boney would it be safe to assume that Eike's reached the point where we could start assigning her things that we would normally be doing, to not only save time but also challenge her and give her more practical experience? Like, telling her to go establish some EIC agents in Middenland or Nordland? Or telling her to go improve the EIC's paramilitary river navy?
You can get her to do things and some of those things might get done, but they're not going to get done to anything like the same standard as if Mathilde did it.
It's not like we're overburdened with must-do tasks competing for our EIC action slots; using our half-action on it and assigning Eike to help it out gives her plenty of opportunity to flex her independent problem-solving skills. Remember when we assigned her to the charcoal shipment action and she landed a metaphorical three-point-shot across the court and made it look easy? That was great.
I initially read this as solving the Nordland problem by making Eike its Elector Count.
Never mind, forget I said anything, we're doing this.

Mathilde desperately thinking of how to give her apprentice the same kind of sink or swim experience she had as a journeyman.
I mean, Nordland's current Spymaster can't be doing that good of a job, how hard could it be to ensure the position opens up? We just need to fake a shadowy conspiracy that will manipulate Eike from afar, and I'm sure Heidi would get a laugh out of it.

Silence Mastery: Neither Seen Nor Heard. Target is unable to deliberately draw attention to themselves.
Oh neat, this time We get to be the master telling their apprentice 'Cool mastery, see if you can codify it if you ever find the time'

We aren't even close to killing Malekith at the moment. We aren't even well positioned to be the first to hear about it if he dies on his own.
It just depends on Boney's dice. If there's a full on Dark Elf invasion that kicks off during the Elfcation, and Mathilde happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, she could end up fighting Malekith. And Mathilde is powerful enough that there would at least be a fight, albeit one that she's massively disadvantaged in. But Ranald might just pull through and bless the dice enough for Mathilde to win.

Is this an unlikely scenario? Yes.
Would Mathilde stand a real chance of beating Malekith in a fight? Hell no.
Would it be hilarious to pull "the best kind of news" gag a third time? Absolutely.

"I'm the Spymaster of an entire imperial province?!?"
"Ehhh", makes 'a little bit lower' gesture
"I'm the Spymaster of Hochland?"
Makes 'a little bit more' gesture

Honestly seems like it would be rather inconvenient. Getting in and out requires a climb and sewer and general plumbing seems very tricky. Maybe that can be solved with magic somehow, but the way isn't popping into my head.

You know that cartoon thing where characters can hide behind trees too thin for them and pop out in improbably places? It's a secret Jade Order technique that the Greys have been trying to steal since their founding.
