Ok, since the shrine doesn't require roll, then it doesn't need blessing, then it is compatible with the exams. Edited it in the plan. Edited out doppelganger, which means no magic 5, but this is life.

Okay so...might want to reconsider some of those plans. Now that we have it confirmed that our fief is on Karst geography, we want to leave most of the renovations for AFTER the Magister exam and we can borrow the College books on geography on our own.

Do NOT dig that well! Groundwater in Karst terrain is literally full of shit. They are healthier before they start using well water.

And the Hire a Manager thing is a bit screwy. It's not given as an option and also hardly needed as an option.

[X] Plan Unseen Sword
-[][Personal] There's always room for more shadow spells in your repertoire. Send off to the Grey College for the basics on one of the others and get started on trying to learn it.
--[] Bewilder

-[X][Personal] Internalized Lessons: If you've been using a particular trait a fair bit in the last year, you can spend some time on it to internalize what you've learned and increase the trait (choose which trait; can be taken multiple times; will be more effective the more you've used the trait lately).
--[X] Intrigue
-[X][Personal] Attempt to imbue an item with a Relatively Simple spell. (specify item and spell) (NEW)
--[X] Robes with Aethyric Armour
--[] Flamberge with Take No Heed for a sword that is hard to notice until it hits you.
-[X][Personal] Erect a shrine to Ranald in honour of his victory over Stromfels, and of Wolf's sacrifice that made it possible. (NEW)
-[X][Personal] Go to Altdorf and submit yourself to the Magisterial examination. (takes three actions, will take place after other actions in the turn)
--[X] Ranald's Blessing
-[X][Free] Use your newly-acquired blacksmithing gear to lure in a skilled but poor blacksmith to begin servicing the area. (no action required) (NEW)
-[X][Free] Build a well (50 gc).
--[X] No action needed +25 gc
-[X][Free] Build a communal granary to store food for lean times (50 gc).
--[X] No action needed +25 gc
-[X][Social] Free Time: Now well-established in Wurtbad, you can spend some time in your scant off hours getting to know someone better. Pick one character. (does not take an action)
--[X] Anton

Explanations:

-[][Personal] There's always room for more shadow spells in your repertoire. Send off to the Grey College for the basics on one of the others and get started on trying to learn it.
--[] Bewilder

Of the low hanging fruit spells, Bewilder is the most relevant to the Magister test in the duel part. We do not need to hit Magic 5. We're already overqualified.

-[][Personal] Attempt to imbue an item with a Relatively Simple spell. (specify item and spell) (NEW)
--[] Flamberge with Take No Heed for a sword that is hard to notice until it hits you.

This showcases our Enchanting skills...and is also useful because a big sword you don't notice hitting you is a heck of a surprise.

-[][Personal] Erect a shrine to Ranald in honour of his victory over Stromfels, and of Wolf's sacrifice that made it possible. (NEW)

For Wolf!

-[][Personal] Go to Altdorf and submit yourself to the Magisterial examination. (takes three actions, will take place after other actions in the turn)
--[] Ranald's Blessing

Its about time. And to the Grey College, if you aren't cheating you aren't trying.

-[][Free] Build a communal granary to store food for lean times (50 gc).

This as per the analysis earlier, is the only thing safe to build for the fief right now. Do not dig that well. Okay our people know how to handle well water. its fine.
We'd want a water supply for the smithy anyway

-[][Social] Free Time: Now well-established in Wurtbad, you can spend some time in your scant off hours getting to know someone better. Pick one character. (does not take an action)

And Anton did ask us to visit. We should on our way.

I plan to swap training piety for
-[] Erect a shrine to Ranald in honour of his victory over Stromfels, and of Wolf's sacrifice that made it possible.

Also dropped the well since it's apparently going to be poison.

Intrigue and Learning are both likely to be on the exam also if we don't take the intrigue option now then we're starting to lose the bonus.

Erecting a shrine is liable to give us a nice new bonus, also it's the thing to do since a priest literally died to get this done for us.

One thing I am curious about is how enchantments interact with ranged weapons and their targets. Could we enchant a pistol with silence or sleep and use wax for the shot to create a less than lethal weapon for our duel?

Could you throw in the Blacksmith, it being a free action?

Before any detailed plans for the Weber Estate (love it) are drawn up - what is the general will of the thread there?

I'm seeing two general directions to take it in: 1) moderate house, pay overseers for the basic improvements, because it's out of the way and doesn't need heavy fortification, making it relatively complete in short order 2) personally oversee bigger improvements for lower cost, turn it into a strongpoint and a source of rep rather than just a home, costing a lot more time.

Is there a desire to settle into shadowcastle long term, or are you looking to go poking around the world a lot more and use the estate mostly to rest and enchant between adventures?
Setting up the Towers for the bonuses seems sensible, perhaps? A Manor, some towers, and a bailey for protecting our herders?

Unless we can do the equivalent to the towers in the Sunken Palace?

One thing I am curious about is how enchantments interact with ranged weapons and their targets. Could we enchant a pistol with silence or sleep and use wax for the shot to create a less than lethal weapon for our duel?

Theoretically possible. Trickier than normal weapon enchantments, since it has to go from the pistol to the shot to the target instead of directly.

What about on the wax ball directly? It would probably be easier that way anyway since it would only need to be a one shot enchantment.

A wax ball would be even more difficult because instead of being a solid object it's an amorphous blob. At that point you might as well just cast the spell directly on whoever you were planning on shooting.

And Anton did ask us to visit. We should on our way.
In we move our primary home, I believe Boney said we'll lose the Ranald bonus unless we set up another shrine to him. The idea was to set up the new shrine in our fief.

However, Wolf was a City boy. Is it worth setting up a semi-public shrine? In a local, gambling den or similar?

I choose Kasmir over Anton since we parted on bad terms and I would like the chance to clear the air.
Why not both?

Since it's plan voting anyway, I've reformatted the suboptions a little for easier reading:

[X] Plan Purple
-[X] Hire a manager to improve the estate (free actions)
--[X] Granary, 75gc
--[X] Wooden bailey, 150gc
--[X] Attract a blacksmith, free
-[X] Erect a shrine to Ranald in honour of his victory over Stromfels, and of Wolf's sacrifice that made it possible.
-[X] Internalize Lessons: Intrigue
-[X] Getting to Know You: Spend time with Kasmir
-[X] Free Time: Anton
-[X] Go to Altdorf and submit yourself to the Magisterial examination.
--[X] Ranald's Blessing

Rationale: Turns money into some general estate improvements as we're supposed to, while leaving open details of our future manor (size, towers, fortification level). We've promised to stay in touch with Anton, and Kasmir will probably have a lot of interesting things to say about the state of Drakenhof and Stirland. Ranald approves, and then the long-delayed exam. Lessons of intrigue from assassinating our motivation. Could also do Piety, but Intrigue will probably be on the Grey Magister exam. Piety next turn, perhaps.

Once we're a Magister - remembering that Magisters are expected to sit in towers and read more than Journeymen - I think it'll be a much better time to do the research backlog and manor construction afterwards.

What intrigue actions recently are you looking to learn from? I could very well be misremembering but there doesn't seem to have been much recently.
The New Boss: Keep an ear to the ground, learning what you can of Roswita's actions and plans.
Abelhelm left you with a list of notarized names. Pass them on to your Master and let the fireworks fly. (does not take an action)

Were the main ones, but there were also all the financial trickery actions that I suspect have at least some intrigue component to them.

Really it was the dealing with the Blackmailers that was the main one, we did very well on that.

[X] Plan Red

Let's get our peity up since we just found out Ranald has an afterlife and he's a decent god some more faith for him.

@BoneyM does the sword on our coat of arms signal anything to our fellow grey wizards?
Warhammer wiki said:
There are many further meanings to the Sword, and the Grey Wizards use it prominently to mark meeting places, ritual circles and other places of power. Even the slightest alteration of the symbol's rendering can significantly alter the message it conveys--provided one is privy to the details of the code. However, few men outside the confines of the Grey College can claim to know more than a handful of iterations, and most of those scraps of knowledge are likely mere deceptions carefully set by the Grey Wizards to lead others astray

On the other hand, ring of fire would look good on that Gandalf-Mathilde comparison chart.
Actually Gandalfs flame ring wasn't really about throwing fireballs but feeding the fire in men's heart to stand bravely against the darkness and to inspire them to greatness. So actually the torc is more appropriate for being Gandalf-Mathilde.

Hire manager is a shorthand for "these actions do not require AP and have 1.5x increased cost". I think it looks better that way in the case of multiple such actions then clarifying under each of them separately.
Take no heed on a sword is cool, but are we immune to our own enchantments. It would be a shame to forget about our sword when some gribblie tries to melee us. Aethyric armor is safer that way.

About well - I doubt that QM included such a hidden trap option without any benefits (even Dhar options had some)

@BoneyM, can you clarify - is the well truly unsafe due to @veekie's concerns over karst geography, or can we safely assume that it would be some abstract well that won't poison our people?

I really want us to build Castle Drakenhof 2.0, you know proper manor with a Dwarfen fortress built around it. The authorities should be happy to have additional friendly fortifications in such a dangerous land as Stirland.
Perhaps we could even petition the Elector countess or the Emperor to have a garrison housed in the fortress. I know that a fortress is expensive to maintain, but hear me out, peasants like living near impregnable fortresses and would likely move closer to it to be protected, that would lead to increases in taxes or perhaps even a small city growing up in the Shadow (the capitalization is entirely deliberate) of our fortress.

If we could get the Dwarves to survey the lands for both deeper minerals and for lands appropriate to the hardier crops that they use, we could offer the people of the Empire the two of the most important things in life, safety, and a job. Even if no one local would be willing to move, there are plenty of urban poor with no future in the larger cities of the empire that would probably kill for the opportunity of stable employment and a future, and if I remember correctly there is quite a bit of land up for grabs at this point in time.
