Currently, you can learn Relatively Simple spells and below; you can attempt to learn Moderately Complicated spells, but the consequences of failure will be severe until you improve your magical skills.

You may now begin drooling over the shinies.

Things i want to have sometime:

Steed of Shadows, because why be a centaur girl when you could be a pegasus centaur girl.
Shadow Knives, with a mastery to turn the knives into a Greatsword. Because Greatswording is Matildes thing.
Shadowcloak and Doppelganger, because it complements our sneakery.

U / Burning Shadows: Causes any shadows cast by a source as bright as a torch or brighter to burn like acid. You can specify who this will and will not effect. No, being inside does not count as being in a shadow cast by the sun.
What about using our sword in battle to make the sword make a shadow from the sun?

Also, does the power of the light source actually matter for the strength of its damage?

i reallly think we might want too expand what we know and what we can do in the mundane and in the magical at some point soon

No, but a 'cloud' created by Pall of Darkness would.

Also, keep in mind that these are the default rules - Mastery would change those rules, at which point you might be able to do things like turn the inside of an entire unlit building into shadow-acid. But you can't choose the effect of your mastery - it will be based on what you had been doing with that spell up to then, and the exact circumstances of when it 'clicked' with you.

Attempting to 'game' Mastery will go badly for you.

>F / Sleep: Compels someone you touch to fall unconscious for up to half a minute.

Interesting, I would like to get that spell. would make kidnapping easier.

Not really interested in the rest of the petty magics.

>U / Silence: Makes someone unable to speak for a few seconds at short range. Interrupts spellcasting.

Will be very useful if we fight necromancers

>U / Skywalk: Allows you to walk on air for a few seconds, enough to cover about twenty meters at a run.

Can be used to get from ground leve to a window.

>U / Take No Heed: Makes you very easy to ignore - it would take an act of willpower to even notice you unless you draw attention to yourself, and those few that do notice you will have difficulty remembering anything about you. Lasts a few minutes.

Mindhole seems to make this redundant

>U / Shadowcloak: Makes you significantly harder to detect for several minutes.

It sounds like it might work on vampires. On the other hand, it might make us more noticable instead.

>U / Eye of the Beholder: You can change something's appearance to make it look either worthless or valuable for several hours.

Sounds pretty useful for bribing... then we mindhole them when they are done telling us everything they know.

>U / Doppelganger: You take on the appearance of a specific humanoid creature for around half an hour, though not their voice.

We all love a good false flag operation.

>U / Mockery of Death: Causes someone you touch to act and appear dead for several days, or until you end it. They will still need to breathe and drink.
Can we use this

Can we use this to disguise ourselves as a vampire or some other undead?

>U / Burning Shadows: Causes any shadows cast by a source as bright as a torch or brighter to burn like acid. You can specify who this will and will not effect. No, being inside does not count as being in a shadow cast by the sun.

QM confirmed my question before. we can use our sword in battle to cast a shadow from the sun... so, this can be quite awesome if properly integrated into our swordsmanship.

>U / Shroud of Invisibility: Makes you invisible for up to half a minute.

always a good one... although I am concerned an enemy mage could detect it by seeing the magic.

>U / Substance of Shadow: A single person or item that falls within a shadow becomes invisible, silent, and insubstantial, though they can selective choose to physically affect the world. Lasts until the item or character is illuminated.

Steal stuff! ... except its really redundant compared to just mind holing everyone as we walk out with it.

>U / Shadow Knives: You conjure and throw several knives (scaling with magical ability and mastery of the spell) at a target at short range that passes through any non-magical armour.

It really depends on how much damage they deal. I have a feeling not as much as just enhancing our sword and armor would.

I am not a fan of the other fiendishly complex magics.

>U / Smoke and Mirrors: A master of Battle Magic can wield teleportation cantrips into other spells they cast, appearing to jump around the battlefield at will, hopping anywhere within short range with every spell they cast.

Holy batman mobility scooter!

>U / Steed of Shadows: Not to be confused with Shadowsteed, an insubstantial pegasus or drake appears under an ally within short range

I totally want to upgrade our shadowsteed into a shadow dragon.

>U / The Enfeebling Foe: An entire group of enemies feel their muscles begin to fail them and their weapons grow heavy in their hands. Medium range.
>U / Melkoth's Mystifying Miasma: The signature spell of the Grey Battle Wizard, this creates a numbing fog at medium range that attacks the combat abilities of the foe.
>U / The Withering: The mirror to the above spell, instills weakness and doubt into a group of foes within medium range.
>U / Okkam's Mindrazor: Summons illusory weapons for an entire group of allies within medium range that shred the very consciousness of their enemies.

Meh... and do they even work on undead?

>U / The Penumbral Pendulum: A ghostly and razor-sharp pendulum of immense size appears above the wizard, then falls in the direction of their choosing. Anyone that fails to get out of the way will suffer horrendous damage.
>U / Pit of Shades: Creates a vortex to a horrifying hell dimension within medium range that drags in anyone unfortunate enough to be nearby.

Powerful... but I just don't see it as us. I would much rather we upgrade our shadowsteed into a dragon, while having a mastered shadow plate armor and shadow vorpal greatsword... and constantly short range teleport.

No, but a 'cloud' created by Pall of Darkness would.
Okay and quick question if we knew the spell could we enchant a box so that unless someone has some kind of key (like a signet ring or amulet) trying to reach into it's shadowy depths would be the equivalent of the highest potency for of Burning Darkness acting on the limb in question?

Mindhole is one person at a time and can be resisted by someone who is alert and/or strong of will. You can't just walk through a crowd and Mindhole every person in it.

Yes, assuming you had also increased your enchanting skill.
Ahh good, would make it a great place to store all the important documents. After all it is a lot easier to track down the guy looks like he dipped his hand in a Troll's stomach acid.

Although now that I think about it another good idea is to develop a minor spell that makes it so that if a document is exposed to light, the contents of it would be destroyed or something along those lines. Mostly the sort of thing that is useful for tripping up anyone trying to steal information from us.

Yes, but we generally don't need an entire crowd to forget us at once.
Also, the spell I said is obsoleted by it is also resisted via will. So if we walk through a crowd, some of them are bound to resist it.

Ok, here is a condensed list of just the spell I want to further take/learn

For combat, I mainly wish to create a cohesive whole from this combo:
M / Shadowsteed - adapt the mastery we created for it to steed of shadows
U / Steed of Shadows - upgrades shadowsteed into a drake or pegasus. I want drake.
U / Smoke and Mirrors - constant short range teleports in battle.
K / Aethyric Armour - our armor is magic
K / Blessed Weapon - our sword is magic
U / Burning Shadows - the shadows we cast melt things. Works with our sword, and would be great with our drake's wingspan.

Those 6 spells have amazing synergy. Moreso if we can actually seamlessly meld them into a cohesive whole (basically, a single spell that is our "warform"). Of course, we are far far far away from this level of magic.

U / Silence
also for combat, but not part of the combo. Would be used against enemy mages.

For noncombat, I want to add the following spells to our spellbook
U / Shroud of Invisibility
U / Mockery of Death - Disguise self as a vampire
U / Doppelganger - false flag operations
U / Eye of the Beholder - bribe people easier before mind holing them
U / Shadowcloak - more stealth
U / Skywalk - jump from street to rooftop/window.
F / Sleep - easier kidnapping

I think Skywalk is the big prize for spymaster utility, and it's Lesser.

Wall in our way? Skywalk over it. Being chased by gribblies? Skywalk away from them. Bridge is out? Skywalk. Need to avoid leaving tracks? Skywalk. Wishing we had Steed of Shadows to transport us around, but it's hella complicated? Skywalk + Shadowsteed.

But right now we need that spy network. And next turn we tell the Count "Continuing to work on spy network" while we expand network and study magic.

id like to get greatsword proficeny up aswell since we are in a province wich is the main cointament for sylvania guys and our magic really isnt for combating them even if we had most spells.

also magical armor while training greatsword stuff (would this give two in one training action atleast a learned spell to master level @BoneyM - the point is that leveleing up a spell makes possible to get two in one action instead of learning new)

i mean use it as armor during greatsword training ? cause im pretty sure it should count for training it eventually to master level? cause we get hit anyway is my point?

U / Move: You can move unsecured light objects around at medium range, and force equivalent to a shove at short range.
How accurate / expensive is this? can we basically use it as fairly accurate telekinesis in day to day actions?

... oooh, idea, use it to control a "flying sword"?

Mastery of combat spells will only be possible during actual combat. No form of practice will ever give you mastery - you need to be actually using it in while attempting to achieve something.
So make sure we're good with a real weapon, make sure we know a good selection of spells, and go with our boss on every adventure event?

"Weber, you have been coming with me on avery slaying expedition I go on... when do you even find the time to study magic"
"Study? who has the time for that when there are monsters to be slayed!"
"We will make a witch hunter out of you yet, webber"
"A witch witch hunter!"

The spell does take concentration, most of the time it'd be easier to just get up and walk over to whatever it is you want to move. Fine control is possible though difficult. And there's not enough force to it for it to be combat effective.

So make sure we're good with a real weapon, make sure we know a good selection of spells, and go with our boss on every adventure event?

That'd be the way to start mastering combat skills, yes. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

We also have to keep in mind that mindhole is only so useful when sneaking around enemies. If we are sneaking around Sylvania and are noticed by a pack of zombies or something, well, we can't mindhole all of them. Similarly, even if it's just one dude, if they notice us before we notice them it's still bad cause they can attack us before we mindhole them.

It's good to have a spell that just makes you harder to be noticed. Stealth spells are real good, mindhole can only take us so far.

Mastery of combat spells will only be possible during actual combat. No form of practice will ever give you mastery - you need to be actually using it in while attempting to achieve something.

Does assassination count as combat?

Cause I have a feeling that Pit of Shades would be good for assassinating boss characters, and the shadow thing could probably be used to assassinate a bunch of mooks, and then we just leave.
