Volans didn't write it. How could he, it contains knowledge of all eight Winds. It was written by all eight of the MPs of the time, so notable names are Volans and Von Tarnus.I really feel the need to stress that Book of Volans turned the person actually attuned to the wind of the Supreme Patriarch who wrote it immediately fucking insane. No ifs, no buts.
Maybe don't fucking prod the one thing that has a significant chance to cause quest end, okay? And no, Ranald's coin won't help here, because its about luck. Luck turning the tide against book that makes people insane makes you trip when you are about to open the book, not make you more likely to withstand whatever the actual fuck a writing of non-chaotic Super Wizard did to make Lord Magister go cray cray.
(I dunno what the fuck was Volans thinking when he penned it, and i don't really want to find out).
Sheer foolishness! All places should have flying tower mooring facilities! No. You could dock the gyrocarriage in the flying tower and use it to get from it to nearby locations that may not be equipped with flying tower mooring facilities.
Question @Boney if we go with the tower, would it be equipped with a Battle Altar equivalent or just a general extremely nasty magical weapon?
Don't worry, at least k8p, laurelorn, our fief and (even if we have to enforce it with violence) Altdorf will have such facilities promptly!Sheer foolishness! All places should have flying tower mooring facilities!
No Battle Altar. Every one is bespoke and the work of a different variety of genius. If you want one, build it.
A thought suddenly occurred to me.At the risk of sounding pretentious, I'm drawn to the airship/flying wizards tower idea because I feel like there's a bunch of thematic relevance to how Mathilde, through the Waystone Project, was able to materially help the world by uniting her scattered and sometimes uncertain loyalties to achieve something far beyond what would have been possible for any one of them, proving once and for all that all her efforts and struggle to care for others no matter how painful it was was meaningful. She's not free from her Divided Loyalties (title drop), of course, but in a sense I feel like what she's achieved with the Waystones is a perfect bookend to her life so far, emphasized here by the miraculous twist of fate that was catching the Asp that led her to resolving two of the great mysteries of the Colleges in front of all the Patriarchs.
Mathilde won. She changed the world, for everyone she cared about and will continue to care about. I think getting that airship is a way for Mathilde to step into a new chapter of her life, doing whatever strikes her fancy because she can trust that she's done well.
I'm assuming that a flying tower would get cannons and general defenses but anything specialized is something we would have to add ourselves.
Guys! GUYS
If/when we get a flying base, we will be able to show up to the Elfcation in STYLE
Just imagine a huge, fog-cloaked ship (or tower I guess) silently floating up to the shore
Hmm, I wonder if we could make a Knightbringer style enchantment that has several of them bound to the tower. Would need to figure out the details, but being able to sick the murderblender knights on people would be cool.Yes, that's something the owner should be free to customize themselves instead of just be off-the-rack.
The greenskin finally manage to punch through the barrage of cannon, wreck the portcullis only to be assailed by goddamn spectral knights. Unfair.Hmm, I wonder if we could make a Knightbringer style enchantment that has several of them bound to the tower. Actually yeah, whether we go with a Ship or Tower, I want to enchant it with some bound Knightbringers that we can send charging out of it.
The problem with the really big secret books is that they need to stay right where they are. Colleges train their librarians on the place and those librarians are then never allowed to venture out of colleges because thats how much of a security risk it is. Even if they allowed us to make copies of those terror books, we wouldn't have the security necessary to keep them safe. There is an uncomfortable balance to how much we could realistically take.Occurs to me...couldn't we ask the Collages for a ton of Books regarding their DEEP Lore, that we'd normally never be able to get ahold of, get them to send us specialized equipment, and try to aim for a pretty big bonus to our magical escapades?
Another option I suppose is creating a backup of the College in the Eight Peaks, investing in a more then average Branch College. As considering that the Superweapon *should* hold things down quite well, I can only imagine a group of Wizards making any siege a further hellscape to accomplish. Granted I'm somewhat under the impression that the Colleges have reached a soft limit on their membership numbers, in terms of how many they can recruit, and I'm unsure if asking for a backup College in Eight Peaks is feasible manpower-wise.
Honestly in so far I don't really like the flying ship/tower idea. Mostly because I don't think it's something we will be using.
If we had plans to go on some kind of cool expedition it'd cool, but as it's I feel it'll be sitting gathering dust or only being used to show off.
We already finished the "low" hanging fruit just fine. All thats left is deployment and thats bankrolled by those that really want those fancy rocks.Could we ask that our waystone project be given more funding and backing from the Colleges as a whole.
Occurs to me...couldn't we ask the Collages for a ton of Books regarding their DEEP Lore
Alternatively the Knights charge out, you fight and kill them....then after enough time the Knights respawn and charge out at you again. Over and over and over. The greenskin finally manage to punch through the barrage of cannon, wreck the portcullis only to be assailed by goddamn spectral knights. Unfair.
While I def think a flying tower is a good idea, letting us move about even more effectively than we already do with the gyros... Would it be possible to ask for permission to futz around with Dhar with *this* amount of clout, if it's the only thing we're asking for. Or would asking just get an immediate slap down and more random demon checks put on the schedule.
Like I know Dhar is magically radioactive and turns you evil... But,
I wouldn't call any of those plans instead of idle thoughts and 'wouldn't this be cool' scenarios. Only the first one is really relevant to anything weve done before.I mean we are planning a lot of potential expeditions, just as examples:
- Go to the Mountains of Morn and look for a source of Titan Metal
- Go to Cathay for the same also Waystone lore and also Ninjas who might be interested in offering training (someone trained Clan Eshin)
- Find Albion and trade the secret of steel for the secrets of the literal Old Ones, also make Tocher's day
- Look for Zorn in the Southlands, that is the last potential lost Hold
- Look for the Spine of Sotek Dwarfs in Lustria, that axe had to come from somewhere and given that it was found in the company of Lustrian Gold...
- Launch another expedition to Dum now that we know what their deal is, a flying ship would be a solid core for that since it worked in canon
There is really no good reason for someone already suspected of beingWhile I def think a flying tower is a good idea, letting us move about even more effectively than we already do with the gyros... We don't actually iirc. The Belt helps with the Dhar fucking with our brainmeats iirc but no amount of that helps with the mindset necessary for wielding dhar being virulently bad for remaining a sane and compassionate human being. No, because the issue with Dhar isn't that we lack the standing, it's that messing around with it drives you violently insane and poisons the world. We do have a solution to the former, but even admitting to that will get us burned at the stake.
