By the way, I have a question for those present. There were discussions here from time to time on the topic of visiting Ulthuan. Is there consensus in the thread on what we can do there?
[ ] [ ] [ ] Travel to Nagarythe at the invitation of Ambassador Daroir, and join their eternal war against Naggarothi invaders for three months.
It's an adventure arc where we get to kill Druchii, observing and honing our Arhain, as Daroir would put it. On the way there we'll also have the opportunity to sample Lothern's markets, and there's some noise about leaving Eike there for her own adventure.

I was just thinking, what else can we do besides this? Try to make contacts with traders from Cathay or blacksmiths of Caledor on the topic of Titan metal? Was there anything else that could have been done there?

I would like to clear out some corrupted Nexii if we have a chance and start on the observations. (This is also where having Bretonnia on-board to shove a bunch of knights down the gribblies throat would be nice.)

Once we get some more Waystone fundamentals squared away and get some more institutional experience working with macro-scale magic flows, it doesn't seem entirely impossible to find a way to repair Nexii, even if constructing them wholesale remains out of reach.

I'm not sure how that differs from any other language?
The difference being that elves remember millennia of memes which are all in living memory. The old memes are more formal then the new ones, but they still check out*.

*Look at me talking like an elf except that they have enough memes to choose from that every word of the sentence can reference multiple.

So I've been rereading the quest, and one little nugget that stuck out to me, is that Asarnil took merc work from the bloody lizardmen. Which suggests he knows how to contact and communicate with them, with is pretty much more infomation than anyone we have so far.

Yes I too would like to put Asarnil on retainer for the lore he and DeathFang can drop, also to help deal with the eventual military threats we will have to for the waystone project.

Maybe. From my point of view, simply moving around this territory is an extremely inconvenient action. The closest analogue of Troll Country that I can choose as a geographer would most likely be the mouth of the Indigirka River in Siberia, or the Vasyugan Swamps in another part of Siberia.

In summer, this territory may have a share of water bodies as a percentage of its entire territory close to 30-50%, and the remaining land will be a swamp, which is extremely difficult to pass even on foot. Sending cavalry in such conditions is simply impossible.

In winter, it is an almost flat plain, which is no less dangerous to move around. You have little or no protection from strong winds and snow, and the ground under your feet may not be frozen enough to move safely.

The main problem of Troll Country, from my point of view, is not the monsters, but the terrifying landscape. Navigating something like this to prevent another Chaos cultist wanting to cause a disaster with dark magic is a logistical nightmare. From my point of view, there are much more reasonable methods of using waystones in the foreseeable future.
Troll Country is canonically steppelands with some hills and forests that become more tundra as you go north, not swamps.

We can
- stab Druuchi
- slash Druuchi
- magic Druuchi
- trample Druuchi
- refine our skills at spellcraft and swording for the purposes of killing Druuchi
- camping

Hell we could lock a Drucchi in a cage with only fuzzy pets for company until they have time to realize their society sucks. That's had a 100% success rate with lab rats so far.

I know we've just mastered our sword style, but I sort of hope we can get insights into a duel-wield grandmaster sword style, were we pair our sword with a shadowsword.

The shadow elves would be the best opportunity to learn that (considering the Eonir are really snobbish about duel-wielding).

I don't see Mathilde picking up dual wielding (as in, a weapon in each hand) ever.

If we had theoretically unlimited time to refine our combat style, I might see her learn some stuff tied into rapid weapon switching, though - having Branulhune "exist" far less often, combined with unarmed combat and the ability to conjure a shadow sword or dagger instead of Branulhune whenever doing so would be advantageous.

That would be a very large action investment for relatively marginal gains when we've already got a huge number of other things in our backlog, though, to the point that picking up Ulgu immortality practically seems like a pre-requisite to doing this.

I just want to make the Shadow dagger for Wizard dad.

So looks like the latest Total War update is introducing a new Kislev character, the Golden Knight which is apparently a position meant to be the bodyguard of the Tzar and best warrior in the nation.

I liked the recent omake, but I got hung up on this bit:
Well no sense complaining over spilled ale,
It's an adaptation of a human proverb (and also a neat continuation of the previous metaphor). But it struck me as a sentiment that would be rather foreign to a dwarf. That they can't or won't do that is one of the big factor that makes them uniquely warhammer dwarfs. I'm sure they grumble over spilled ale all the time.

So I wondered what the nearest Dwarven equivalent would be. I think "write it down", with the implication of 'in the book of grudges', might be it. Because you write bad things you can't do anything into the book. Probably for cases where the annoyance is externally caused.

Maybe also something related to hair loss, like 'not worth losing a strand', in reference to going slayer when the fault is with you instead, and so you're saying that while the fault is with yourself, it's not worth serious action.

And maybe a mining metaphor of leaving an empty seam when there's no fault too assign.

That is a very interesting and I think accurate to dwarf thought. Editing.

Troll country is mostly steppeland and tundra, not bogs. This is presumably why when boney has talked about what waystones would do for troll country, he has explicitly said it would clear out new grazeland.
