Question, did we pay off our EIC Debt this update? I didn't notice anything specific and given the mention of how the EIC is something to be watched for overreach and Stirland's cash flow difficulties it is something we should have done from a lot of perspectives. Plus the thread did want to even if we voted to spend most of it in K8P
We did not. We were told it would be impossible for Roswita to call in or sell off our debt without screwing herself over though.

The debt to Stirland for EIC purchase is now more or less a solved issue at this point. Friend Wilhelmina set it up so the debt can't be called early by Stirland, and EIC funds will pay it down with no action required on our part. Plus EIC will be the first buyer should Stirland sell Weber's debt, so double protection.
Okay though it still raise the possibility if we want to end the debt now to help Stirland if they have a cash flow problem then offering to pay off that debt would really help. We certainly have the money and the Grey college wouldn't complain.

Ehh… maybe a turn we have the Coin set to make it appear selfless? Not sure if the economic problems of Stirland count as a threat we didn't cause but it can't hurt.

You look down at the map and consider the economic kraken he's describing, and you wonder if maybe it's a good thing this isn't your problem any more.
One of the strangest traditions of Stirland is that when stepping down from the position as spymaster is to leave a conspiracy for your replacement to try and dismantle. :p
Probably whoever I end up marrying is going to be able to get me to do just about anything they want to, so I might as well marry someone that can already do that and hasn't done anything bad with it, right?"
I don't even know what to say.
Some say that eventually, becoming sufficiently attuned to Ulgu would steal those desires away.
Somehow throwing ourselves into magic to remove the loneliness sounds even sadder than being the crazy wolf lady.
this is not a 'Shipping War'.
Its a Shipping Waagh! :V:V:V

The ghostbusters thing is actually a great explanation the heart of my problem with Court Wizard. We lack a Gozer, or even an EPA.

[X] Marry them...
- [X] Reinhild Gerber
- [X] Wilhelmina.
[X] 'Head Ranger' (Spymaster), Internal Focus
[X] Steward

I just can't imagine Mathilde marrying Anton. Their friendship is so ingrained, that I doubt it'll ever grow into romantic love. The distance we'll need to travel also wont help things and with our wizard tower, I doubt we'll be leaving Karak Eight Peaks anytime soon, especially if we invest plentiful favors into it.

Also, Wilhelmina and Anton would be an awesome power-couple.

I also would prefer Panoramia and Mathilde to build a romantic relationship, since their interests are similar enough and the location is as well. Their relationship isn't fully solidified and the fact that Mathilde is no longer her boss helps.

Belegar is awesome at stewardship, but we're a dab hand at it ourselves, and I don't think you're allowed to be your own Steward. My concern is overseeing the Undumgi, with the economic concerns as a close second.
I don't know, I think the only council that could surpass Belegar, Mathilde, Mathilde, Mathilde, Mathilde, and Mathilde's dog would be Belegar, Belegar, Mathilde, Mathilde, Mathilde, and Mathilde's dog.

Firstly, I would very much prefer it if people wouldn't refer to romance between women as "yuri". It's just as egregious and irritating as calling a relationship between men "yaoi". This isn't even an anime quest.

Secondly, if you feel dread over the thought of romance between women with a female protagonist, you might want to self reflect on why you feel dread. Do you feel dread when you think of a man and a woman getting together?

Thirdly, even if Mathilde ended up with a woman, she wouldn't be a lesbian. She would be bisexual. Please don't erase bisexuality while fearmongering over the existence of women who love women.

I understand that SV might have a problem with poorly written female protagonist romances with other women that might have left people jaded, but try to imagine how it feels to be LGBT and trying to find a story that represents you in actually published books. You will find very little that fit with what you want.

And with that, I will go to cool off.

But why would Mathilde do it?

She dislikes the countess. She is trying hard not to resent her successes and laugh at her failings, and is kind of failing to do that. Just now she tipped of Wilhemine about Stirlanders returning with coin to buy land and ripped off the countess via insider trading, all the while feeling great about herself.

Why the sudden change of heart?

I don't see why he can't visit these magnificent places. Yeah, he is a noble and that means he has duties. However, it doesn't mean he is forever chained to a desk.

His boyish innocence would probably add greater strength on the awesomeness of the wonderous places Marthilde visited and helped allow others to experience them.

You're right and I should clarify what I mean. Anton is very good at what he does; he has great technique. What he lacks is abstraction: reflection on his skill and an appreciation of the broader context in which it fits. He's astonishingly good at making friends and finding compromises that leave people not feeling too hard done by, but he's fundamentally so wholly practical that he can't really apply it elsewhere, and he's kind of reliant on people to protect him from actual malicious manipulation because what he does only works as long as everyone is fundamentally dealing in good faith.

Contrast this to van Hal or Belgar, who have pre-existing skills and biases, but the mental flexibility to view what they do from a number of different angles, change their mind about things, and correct us when they see us falling into a mistake relative to their areas of expertise. Anton isn't an abstract thinker and we never see him do that sort of thing, and I think that's what we need in a partner.
Holding out for Belebro eh

I can respect that

They say dwarves do not marry for love and do not experience lust, but we'll see how he feels after we put a few more sapphires in that crown of his

[X] Stay single. Marry for love.

I'd prefer Matty marrying Anton but I really just don't want him marrying any of the others.

WHAT?!

*Screams in Economics!*

Dear Ranald, Roswita. I just wanted you to eat a bit of humble pie. I didn't think anyone could possibly be stupid enough to do this... This might just top nearly losing the runefang.

Also:
"This isn't a warning. If we didn't have faith in you, you would not bear your current rank, and truth be told the silver will come in handy - our wedding present for the Emperor was not cheap. This is simply a reminder to help you retain that faith we have in you. As the Wolfship captain said to the midshipman: if a fish jumps aboard there's no point throwing it back overboard, but don't get so used to the taste that you find yourself baiting hooks. Is that clear?"

"Yes, Lord Magister."
Mathilde Weber would never dream of abusing her magic to get rich.

You look down at the map and consider the economic kraken he's describing, and you wonder if maybe it's a good thing this isn't your problem any more.
suddenly the EIC can undercut every poor bastard from here to Kirchham who still has to pay tolls and tariffs. I'd call it highway robbery but I've got three lads here and two in Altdorf triple-checking that every single step of it is completely legal, because sooner or later she's going to realize she handed me Western Stirland on a platter."
Land for gold, silver for land, gold for silver - a level of alchemy beyond the arts of the Gold College.
You're once again reminded how terrifying Wilhelmina has become in matters of finance.
Because she really doesn't need to . She already owns a 1/3 stake in West Stirland. And best gunpowder ingredients are still being quietly sold to the Dwarves.

And the EIC is still growing...

The position vote is a bit meta, of course. While Mathilde contributed greatly to the Reconquest, so did a lot of other characters. It's not likely that Belegar just gave her the pick of whatever position she wanted, though one could interpret it as "she lets him know what she's interested in and it happens that matches his thoughts on the matter".
