we did it so fast that the local Skaven are probably shitting themselves at our show of force, which will delay the ratmen's moves.

I would prefer Mathilde to continue being a great greenskin bully.
She's probably going to end up with both greenskies and ratmen singing songs about what a giant horrible bitch she is. Even if she does nothing else from this point on.

Although with the amount of favour she's gotten from the dwarves for this, I suppose she could either have herself inserted into their songs of what's coming, or insist that Kragg himself creates an enormous Mathilde statue, but bearded and runed, at the tunnel mouth. That'd certainly kick any story formation into overdrive.

Did I say thousands of gold?

A quick headcount of the surviving stirlanders, says that Stirland might actually have some inflation problems if their steward isn't on the ball.

On the other hand, they can probably fund one hell of a thorough Sylvania purification by hiring outside expertise with the loadsamoney coming in.

Leveraging our windfall to clear our debt,
No! I don't support this. It's unnecessary, we can do better things with the money.

And, from many reasonable Randallian points of view, we've got an excellent claim on the loan money anyway.
We took the loan from Stirland to fund our share of the purchase the inital assests for the EIC.
What were those assets, you ask?
Why, the very same assets we road the length of Stirland in a night to seize from the old League. Contracts, cash, goods, wagons (and all those sheep).
Yes, Wilheimina and us were doing our job, but we were doing our job exceptionally well. Without us, Stirland wouldn't have had those assets to 'sell' us.

I've no intention of accelerating repayment of the EIC loan. Let our share of EIC profits take care of that gradually, it's fast enough- and that was the initial terms of the loan anyway!

On the Skaven front, I think it's possible that we might have inadvertently caused some infighting with our goblin assassination ploy. While the Skaven might have known something was wrong, I doubt they actually gathered enough information to know we weren't a Skaven or some form—especially if the majority of them are going to be hearing from the goblins that some Skaven headcapped their boss rather than skeptical first-hand sources (that might well have been wiped out, and are untrustworthy anyway due to the whole Skaven thing). Given how significant an alliance that killed odds are some Skaven lost big, and of course they're going to blame rival Skaven. We did hear from the Wolf-Knights that there was some pretty substantial evidence of recent Skaven on Skaven battle/skirmishing...

I like the Papers vote, but it feels like something to pursue on the side.

We will get this one chance of leading a massively more powerful version of the Stirland Watch, through the Undumgi. It synergizes beautifully with anything related to spycraft, and Mathilde both enjoys and is good at this.

And we can call it the Deathwatch. Win-win.
I'm firmly in favour of delegating some of our management of the mountain out, once we've established the institutions and general shape of things.

And the idea of making the position assigned by a democratic vote sounds great.
Introducing a democratic vote, in a kingdom, when we are best buddies with the King and said vote would be for our highly elevated position of power and influence... Well, I don't need to point out what I think of that idea, do i? Mathilde has better things to do than worry about popularity contests and voting peasants.

In an unrelated topic, folks, I think we are going to have to be a bit more practical and just spend a personal action on learning the Axe, given that we can have a good anti-miscast channel on our super-killy weapon without detracting from either.

Remember, we can either have a +Magic item, or an anti-miscast one.

That +1 would serve us greatly mainly in two situations: enchanting (so we can make, say, a 3+ robe), and battle magic.

Unfortunately, the latter, as we've just seen, is incredibly dangerous, and we can use a separate tool no problem for the former.

@BoneyM I assume that we should be able to do some sporadic bursts of Deceiver-fueled scouting of the Peaks, even with the external option?

So after some thinking I decided to go with the human leader option even though I was pretty dubious about it initially. Having a wizard leader will help these people shed some of their prejudices in regards to magic, it will help make at least this little corner of the world safer and more welcoming for those touched by magic. It just feels in character for Mathilde even if it's not the best synergy.

One of the reasons I am in favor of the paper writing aspect is the favors our journeymanlings will get out of it. Writing the first paper on battle scale runic magic seen in modern memory would give our journeymanlings a huge boost to their colleges. Having us sign off on it will give it a lot more weight than if it was mere journeyman work. This paper could open a great deal of doors for them when they finally return back.

Also I find the interactions between the journeymanlings and Mathilde to be very endearing and I would love to see more of it.

MAGDA WESSEN, powerful MAGISTER KNIGHT of the GREY ORDER, has led her band of journeymanling in the RECONQUEST OF KARAG EIGHT-PEAKS, but she still stands alone. On the path through the lost BADLANDS, she has discovered her SECRET HERITAGE as a ROYAL PRINCESS.
...Reikspiel for Mary Sue is MAGDA WESSEN, isn't it... :V

Who will join her on her JOURNEY OF RECLAMATION? Kindly and beautiful CONSTANCE BREW, hard-bitten and wolfish RUPERT WOLFRAM, or even the young KING BELEGOR?
In a STUNNING EMPIRE FIRST, we are PROUD to offer the FIRST and most touching CHOOSE YOUR OWN ROMANCE book. Which of these three WORTHY COMPANIONS will woo Magda's PURE HEART? VISUAL Illustrations bring this NOVEL to life!

Being the mayor of Karag Nar doesn't necessarily seem all that Grey Wizardly?

Also there's probably not going to be that many caravans to Cathay.

Sure a major obstacle got removed but there's a totally inhospitable wasteland filled with gribblies and then another chain of mountains before reaching Cathay and then there's the return trip.

A small group of experienced Grey Wizards could probably make the journey safely enough to establish an Embassy in Cathay but for a large, slow, not very magical caravan? Risky seems to be a massive understatement.

I am honestly somewhat excited to see what all the money the stirlanders will bring back will do to the province. I mean they are farmers that want to buy land and Stirland has a bunch of land for sale right now. The ripple effect of all that money entering the economy and moving around as homes are bought and tools are made could really kick start a massive economic growth period for them. Combine that with the roads that has been built and you have a lot of economic activity going on there.
That is cool. We're not gonna be around to see it, though.

The dwarf-friends are a power bloc.
Since wizard tower is winning pretty crushingly here, it might be time to start thinking about exactly what our wizard tower will need.

As you may recall, a tower provides bonuses to the purpose for which it is dedicated; when we were discussing building a manor on our fief, a lot of the plans had multiple towers in them so that we could have an enchanting bonus, research bonus, etc. thanks to each having a dedicated area. This is pretty flexible; it can even provide a bonus to reading tomes which of course makes a dedicated reading room mandatory for any place we're planning to settle in for serious research. Building towers was 100g each when we were building a manor but who knows how much it would be in the Karak. Presumably, our plans to move in will involve more than one "tower" room type mechanically even if they're physically more compressed; maybe a large tower has one bonus available per floor or we'd have a suite of rooms in Karag Nar.

The other nice way that a home can provide bonuses is via libraries. Having a relevant library at all is +1, +1 more for Extensive, and +1/+2/+3 for increasing levels of rarity, all of which stack, so an optimized library can give you up to +5 on whatever project you're working on. Unfortunately, getting a library on a topic takes an action and upgrading it by one level does the same, so it takes a staggering five actions to get a full library bonus and that will still only apply to one topic. As far as I know every library action is only 50g no matter what the topic or upgrade level, though.

If we need to outfit each room with 100g and one action each and each library upgrade with 50g and one action each, which is in line with previous costs, it could take us literal years just to finish our home. Most of that would be chasing library bonuses, admittedly, but if we're going to be doing serious magical research we really want those library bonuses.

Avoiding this huge timesink is a high priority, I think. Maybe we can pitch the necessity of having a well-equipped library and tower down in Karak Eight Peaks to the Grey College and get them to assign their librarians+scribes to outfitting our library for us, and one of their numerous apprentices to picking up laboratory necessities? They have a lot of professionals who would be able to fairly rapidly select and then have copied key tomes on the topics we'd be interested in, and we do still have that College Connections trait. I'm thinking that greenskin lore, skaven lore, general magic, enchanting, and grey magic are critical and more specialized topics like waystones and Qhaysh are maybes. Convincing them to do this for us and save the associated action slots might be a good way to spend a large chunk of our wealth; I could easily see us spending 2000g on a quality library and several hundred more on employing their scribes and librarians so that we don't have to spend the action slots.
On the upside, upgrading the library might involve a trip to Barak Varr with a shopping list. That could be fun. Expensive, because we'd totally come back with a bunch of random crap from Cathay or Ind or whatever, but fun.

Ah, so we are going to introduce the concept of the Visual Novel into the Warhammer World? I assume there'd be harem routes, thick harem protagonists who are oblivious of the blatant affection of cookie-cutter cliches and Bad ends aplenty.
