Great update as usual. The Orbs thing is very shiny, I expect that next turn we'll see an upsurge of plans which include a lot of paper-writing to get more College Favors.

I see the vote options as purely benefits - there's no point thinking of long-term downsides at this moment, only on what they might take to train up. Locals means integration with the rest of the Karaks, which would be great and be giving back to the people, really - a good chunk of the reason we worded things the way we did was so it'd be an accessible library. Collegiate would help in magic research, which we already do a lot of.

I'm going to decline on Cython and the We, and second some people's thoughts on them. I love them both as characters, but I don't think they'd be a great fit for Librarian.

It's just, we could definitely do it and iron out all the kinks if we invest in it, but we already have a lot on our plate. We don't need to go for the perfect and most exotic solution all the time. Think of our AP.

I don't like Cython's attitudes on library management, and having the We manage the library seems like a lot of work when we have more urgent projects to handle.

And I really think the sheer physical size of Cython is going to be an issue.
Considering Cython is explicitly *some* degree of shapeshifter, and was pretty easily changing size to travel through relatively tiny tunnels to murder rats during the battle I doubt it will be an issue.

I'm voting spooder because this is just too awesome

but at the end of that path is a staff of librarians that are able to easily move in three dimensions, instantly communicate with each other, increase their numbers to whatever amount is needed, and be absolutely terrifying to anyone inclined to misbehave and might normally expect nothing more than a smack with a ruler and a stern look from a more conventional librarian.

A quick 101 on What Librarians Actually Do:

Librarianship is typically divided into two disciplines: Information Science and Library Science.

Information Science is a theoretical science that explores the following questions:
1) How do people generate data?
2) How is that data stored?
3) How is that data retrieved?

There's a big focus on statistics, search engines, digitisation, and basically anything to do with how you record and store information.

Library Science is a practical science that explores the following questions:
1) What information does my client/patron need?
2) How do I find that information?
3) What is the best way to deliver that information to my client/patron?

This mostly involves being able to understand the topic the client is researching (whether that's LGBTQ rights in the 70's, cutting edge medical research, or what's the best bedtime story for 7 year old girls), being able to find information that is relevant, and then distilling it into a report or a power point presentation or even just a handful of recommendations so they can make an informed choice on how to proceed with their research.

This is not the modern world, even the language to talk about the job of a librarian in those terms does not exist. That is alike me pulling out what a soldier should know in the modern US army and arguing that a pike and shot mercenary during the 30 years war had the same tasks and engage with them the same way.

Looking at the tally and how both of the options that will instantly make this library something amazing and unique losing I fell like pouting something, I noticed many are worried that the We will eat a lot of AP to train, but of the options that need training they need the least of it, because with the We we only need to train one person, EVER, while on the other hand be they orphans or locals we will always need to train more people as the place expands and time passes.
TL;DR If you want to save AP vote We.

Huh, aparently magic is particulate (strandulate?), interesting. I don't think thats ever come up before.

While the current plans would be to establish then somewhere under Karag Nar so they can be conveniently close to the greenskins that are their prey,
Is there a reason they aren't going under Karagril? Is it just because Nar is the designated non-dawi karak?

You know, the We perspective on not getting rid of books is actually not that different than in humans/dwarfs/etc. , if you zoom out a bit from the individual level to karak-We/town-We level. That's basically what the job of library's are, keeping the books so the We doesn't loose the knowledge.

multi-species collaboration is part of why I wanted the library in the first place.

On the Orb of Sorcery topic... We (apparently) have 18 gallons of AV. It takes 8 to make a set of Orbs.
Clearly the only option is to get enough power crystals to make 2 sets without advertising anything, and then dump all 16 Orbs on the Colleges all at once.

This is... mostly? a joke.

That's possible, but Cython was pretty clear that their physical form was rather fluid when asked what gender they were.
True. When reading that I only thought they mean their ability to change sex, but it's indeed unclear if they can do a more spectacular kind of shapeshifting.

TL;DR If you want to save AP vote We.
Or vote Veneran or runescribes, who need no training.

edit
Shouldn't the 'We' be called 'Wir' instead since our MC is a not-german?
The entire quest is in English, why would one specific word be in German?

So, to all the people voting for Locals and Orphans because the We would take too long to train.
Are you expecting orphans and locals not take long time to train as well?
Mathilde is not going to personally train the We to be a librarian, she (or Belegar) can just throw money at that problem and hire a librarian to train the We.

That is actually wrong for many reasons. if we want the We to be good at their job they will have to be trained so that will take action or actions. The Cult of Verena is the only option that does not have to be trained. Also after we get the first librarians trained they can train the new ones that pop up.

Consider: the Verenan we spoke with before mentioned that one potential obstacle to getting permission to copy texts is being able to promise a sufficient level of security to people who are very paranoid about the security of books, with the clear implication that said people would not consider "it's located in a dwarfhold" sufficient in and of itself (since our interlocutor was fully aware of this when giving their advice).

In this same update, it is noted that being part of a dragon's hoard is considered to be more secure than literally a bank vault. Even when it's just a baby dragon hardly smarter than a crow, much less a fucking Emperor Dragon. The conclusion is obvious.

Also, dragon librarian dragon librarian dragon librarian. Is there really any other option here?
