It was required for the ritualistic parody part of the murder:

If only we belonged to the one Order that has unoffical relations with them, and had a divine artifact to make them trust us on top of that...
Its because we are from the one Order that has unoffical relations that they would even talk to us.

and yes, if the Father works that would be great, and im up for trying.

but if the father doesn't work, I'm expecting a few hoops we have to jump before we get to favour trading.

I have to admit, I think that's pretty funny. I imagine Alberich spent quite a while pondering how he could exagerate choking to death of a fish bone until he decided to just fuck it and stab them a bunch. I'm sad he didn't decide to show a whole fish down the targets throat. Because then, we could've seen a chaos champion try to slap people to death with a large fish.

(In all seriousness, forcably choking someone to death with a fish is gruesome, especially because of the disrespect in the absurdity)

He might've been planning to stab the victim in the throat. Maybe even, uh, shove the knife down his throat. Pretty gruesome, if true.

Could be argued that using the Father instead of the Gambler would be a... gamble.

Atleast with the Gambler we are guaranteed a save to not fudge the introduction. While the Father require us to run around until we find a positive match. Sounds AP intensive, but it's not like spreading the AP too thin was an argument against the opposing vote to the Father or anything.

td;lr I much rather have Mathilde on the Gambler to make our actions risk averse than betting it all on unsure cards.

It could be argued that, if one ignored the evidence for and against the different possibilities and assumed that finding the daughters was a matter of randomly guessing.
I will say it again and again until we go ahead and check it: Halétha is almost certainly Ranald's daughter. It's a gamble, in the sense that nothing is certain, but it's not a huge gamble. It's a pretty sure bet.

That was my assumption. The guy lacks creativity but he doesn't lack in brutality.
My guess as well. And honestly, while I like fish down the throat for shock and amusement value, that's something you can do when they're at your mercy. These were in a hardened location defended by someone quite dangerous. Frankly, using a practical knife instead is pretty smart.

@torac that is not how politics works, someone has to be given credit or it will just default to the locals because they have a vested in interest in being seen as protecting their own turf. If you are a citizen of this city you want to know that your cult and your hunters have your back not that you need Sigmarites and Grey Wizards and gods know what else to protect you.
The locals (Longshanks) are getting credit regardless of our choice.

This is just about how Mathilde's part is to be described. I.e., should Mathilde just be left out (Handing 100% to the Longsharks), or does she want them to say anything about her. This option would basically be "In Cooperation with the Empire" with a bit of flavour text about how Solidarity and Unity will always defeat the Infighting Chaos.
