Personally if I thought it would work I would go for it. I think the odds are very low though. Alric has already made it clear he doesn't want anyone else in on this, shown by the location he chose to begin with and not recruiting anyone since. So he's going to be heavily against any inclusion.

He also already has weeks of establishing trust with them to convince them against leaving. Which is really not a hard argument to make. "Do you want to stay in this heavily warded, personally prepped, holy spa, with me. Or do you want to wander around the city where these people hope to get you closer to the guy killing your family?"

I also don't think any argument to the articles could be made here, considering he has a very solid plan in place to deal with things. Even aside from that unilaterally recruiting someone as a demon dowsing rod I don't think would generally fly under them.
To be clear, the articles would not help at all with recruiting the target, I just think they would be a good argument against Alric 100% stonewalling us from even trying.

As for the risk, the target is safe until the ritual day itself and we just saw that the spa branch has been driven out of safety by their own recklessness and boredom. Given that we spotted the target by how similar their emotions looked to the spa branch, it's safe to say they are restless too.

Beyond that it's just a question of whether Alric is willing to risk losing 100% of the credit by ignoring us, or willing to take a sure 50% to avoid that risk.

Given that he is already scraping the bottom of the favor barrel I think there are good odds that he will not want half of a pittance, on top of that he might suspect the Empress and he knows we are close to her. Maybe he will even think Mathilde is here to throw him off the scent of the perfidious chaos worshiping empress.

Question, we are trying to prevent murder number 6, while the ritual needs 7, right? Or what numbers are we at. Mostly I'm asking if we get one do over or if this is the last chance?

You could just as easily say that because he's at the bottom of the barrel he can't afford to come away with nothing. On its own that point isn't evidence either way.

Fair point on the empress though, if he wants to come in swinging with wild accusations he does have an angle. However, that increases his risk from getting zero credit to negative credit, because if we then find and kill the attacker he's picked a fight with the empress for no good reason.

The thing is he could legitimately believe that and if he does accusation or not odds are he will not work with us.

I do not see why he would consider needing help. He knows who the target is and has warded a area with traps. He has a really good place to defend that even has holy water. His plan actually can succeed without Mathilde.

Unlike that time he has a lot of time to prepare with enchanted items. Even if he is old he still has a lot of experience fighting chaos. He may think he does not need any help with everything he has done.

It was more a joke than a legitimate critique. Even if Alric is a total incompetent (which is not guaranteed) he certainly would not think of it like that.

I think they'd be a bad argument, they're both weak on the face of it and are likely to offend Alric.

The target might be safe until a specific day, but Mathilde's speculated that there's potential tolerance for variance even with bigger changes than that. So killing them a week early is not necessarily a deal breaker, as opposed to just somewhat weakening the overall effect. Also even if it's true that they're safe until a specific day, all the evidence for it is stuff that's completely inaccessible to them (Being abstract magic) coming from an unknown, while Alric is probably casting doubt on it.

The hunting lodge people were not leaving the lodge, they were importing entertainment.

I think Alric's position will be if we're reduced to trying to horn in on his place at the last minute, then we've got little chance on our own. And he's clear to go solo.

That is a possible interpretation, but the phrasing says that "they always get adopted". I find it hard to believe that every single situation in which a Gave pops up, none of the Beastmen ever witnessed the act of the mother laying the child on the forest floor. Even if a human were to give them the child, they would still see it as a gift from the Dark Gods considering the mutation was the work of the Gods. I think Beastmen just enjoy raising mutants or something.
We see a Gave being abandoned in the book Knight Errant and there are indeed beastmen watching as the parent leaves the child, so your belief is well founded.

Someone is probably going to reply within 30 seconds with a link to a post telling me all this has already been discussed but :

The Empress snorts indelicately. "Point. Talabecland?"
"They're busy trying desperately to convince Karak Kadrin not to declare a Grudge against them. I did tell you that they'd try to pull the rug out from under Ostermark. And Ostermark would back the Slayer Keep, so they're out too."
- Talabecland was involved in something near grudge-worthy a few years ago, most likely over trade and the canal in Ostermark.
- Someone tried to threaten several time our side of the canals, wich will affect trade in Talabecland, not just Marienburg or whatever.
- Alkharad heavily used trade and smuggling (on the Talabec side of Stirland), wich is why hiring an exciseman as a steward made sense for Roswita
- The conspiracy around the last of the previous dinasty of Stirland's EC made big use of trade (previous spymaster at the center of it).
- Adding to that : Herman Schultz (steward advisor of Van Hal) was on Talabecalnd's payroll.

It's always about trade. And now it's a revenge plot on a family that flirted with dark stuff to put their greedy hands on more gold.

It looks like it could be a good idea to dig for proof of that while Alric plays glory-hound. Making him look like he is in bed with a bunch of chaos/vampire enabling fools will fix the problem.

If we get the chance I am definitely up for looting the manor and hopefully getting some incriminating ledgers. Maybe the family should stay at the spa for a week or two more.

if we fail this one we still got 1 more murder and whatever he has planned for the finale for time. though the problem is that alric could catch him before us and end this so we still should try anyway.
